Historic allure
The Grande Dame of Luxor, the lobby immediately transports you back to early 1900s colonial era. You really feel as if you're in the time of the artifacts explorer, feeling almost like you're in movie.
The property, especially the original wing, is very spacious with long large hallways. However, the rooms and the whole property is in need of some major facelifting. It doesn't feel like other luxury Sofitels because of that.
The rooms facing the front are rewarded with amazing Nile views, especially at night. However, the trade-off is the noise of vehicles that are constant though the night. The garden rooms are much more quiet but you don't have views. The calm is absolutely bliss, especially in the morning. The negative part is that there are many flies and insects that get into the room at night if the windows are opened. All in all, a property that is known more for it's historical importance than it's modern comfort.
