Secret Garden in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park: Not Just Library
Hidden in a quiet corner of Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, this secret library was converted from an old employee bathhouse. Upon entering, visitors must change into slippers and purchase a ticket. Inside, a sunken reading area reminiscent of a bathhouse greets the eyes, with bookshelves stacked high around the space. Visitors can freely choose books and sit on the floor to read.
The space also leads to an outdoor garden and the remnants of the original bathhouse, where the washbasins and semi-circular bath are now used as display areas. The curved reading area by the window exudes a rustic charm, creating a very leisurely environment.
Not Just Library charges an entrance fee of 50 NTD, which helps keep the space quiet and free from disturbances, making it an ideal place for book lovers.
Owner's Introduction: Not Just Library is not just a place for storing books but a medium for presenting various perspectives and inspiring ideas, showcasing what is happening in the world. It houses around 30,000 design-related books from both domestic and international sources and carefully selects over 100 well-known magazines and independent publications from around the world.
In addition to printed materials, the library frequently hosts design-related exhibitions, lectures, and activities, providing a source of creative nourishment and inspiration. It offers tools, Wi-Fi, power outlets, and discussion spaces needed by studios, as well as beloved sunlight and playlists.
Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Taipei | I used to only know about Eslite, but it turns out the library is also amazing
This time back in Taiwan, I finally had time to schedule a visit to the library.

📖: 'More than a Library'
📍: Inside the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Xinyi District, Taipei
🎫: 50 Taiwan dollars per person
-
The Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is converted from the former Songshan Tobacco Factory. The long corridor-style old building is now used as an art exhibition space and a cultural and creative product sales area. Some areas require a ticket to visit, like the 'More than a Library' I went to this time.
-
This is a sunken space design, with most of the books on display related to art, design, and marketing. The library has plenty of space for sitting on the floor, which is very reader-friendly.
-
Entering through a small, risky entrance, you find yourself in another world. It is still a book display area, which used to be the employee bathhouse of the Songshan Tobacco Factory. Outside the bathhouse, there is a small garden, but unfortunately, it was not open that day.
-
Inside the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, there are also many cafes and independent bookstores. The most interesting one is an Eslite bookstore, which is interesting because this Eslite is not only a bookstore but also includes a department store and Eslite Hotel (a hotel opened by Eslite). It's very large and you can spend half a day browsing.
-
The CAMA Coffee in the park is also one of my favorites. Its architectural style is completely different from other CAMAs. CAMA is cheap and delicious, and I hope it opens in Mainland China soon!

A Nice Place, Especially at Weekend
#taipei
The Songshan Cultural and Creative Park was initially constructed in 1937 as a tobacco factory, but it ceased to produce cigarettes in 1998 for concern over urban planning. In 2001, the government designed the defunct tobacco factory as Taipei's 99th historic site and converted it into a park.
It is located at 133 Guangfu South Road, Xinyi District, and is open daily from 0800-2200. It is around 6 minutes 500 meters walk from Taipei City Hall station (Bannan Line).
It is a great place to walk around and enjoy, since being converted into a cultural hub packed with galleries, exhibitions, design spaces and shops. It is best to visit over a weekend, when there are usually markets selling gifts and foods.

Lesser Known Cultural & Creative Park in TPE
As compared to the Huashan Cultural and Creative Park, this park is less well known but also definitely worth a visit!
The park is a former tobacco factory warehouses and has many different nooks and crannies to explore. From the pond, to the warehouses to the huge eslite spectrum store to the highly recommended eslite hotel, there is bound to be something that catches your eye.
There are tons of items to shop till you drop too. There are also exhibitions to visit (mostly payable). Plan at least half a day here to fully explore this place!
Nearest metro station is the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall station and the park is a 8-10 mins walk away.

Perhaps the earliest Taipei you know is from the lyrics: "Winter to Taipei to see the rain", "Zhongxiao East Road to go nine times", I want to go alone to Yangmingshan to watch the sea otter, shoot idol drama." The predecessor of "Songshan Wenchuang Park" was "Songshan Tobacco Factory of Taiwan Governor's Office Monopoly Bureau", which was established by the Japanese in 1937. Later, with the changes in history, Songshan Tobacco Factory was transformed into Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in 2010. There are often various art exhibitions in the park, and there are various cultural theme exhibitions in the tobacco factory building.
The cigarette factory that once roared in the machine has now been transformed into a large literary space where people can choose cultural and creative gifts, rehearse here, and watch new media exhibitions.
Some people say that Songshan Wenchuang has passed through history. The fate of generations of old tobacco factories has turned into an indelible memory here. People can also experience the years here. Feelings and temperature.

Taipei has a great place for the arts and crafts. Taiwan's craftsmanship is very cultural. I like a camera. It's very delicate. The pure DIY can be configured with different shells. There are 4 switching modes on the buttons. The original colors are black and white, warm and cool. The great picture quality shows that in addition to the camera there are a lot of crafts, chatting with the boss, I heard that they made the initial intention of this product, and persisted for so long and finally got a return, I feel very happy.
Formerly known as the Songshan Tobacco Factory of the Taiwan Governor's Office Monopoly Bureau, in 2001, the Taipei City Government designated the Songshan Tobacco Factory as a municipal monument. The architectural style belongs to Japanese early modernism. The form is simple and elegant. The bricks, glazes and copper nails work fine, retaining the historical charm of Japanese modernism.

Taiwan's Wenchuang is very worth sharing with everyone. Although the taxi driver said that Songshan Wenchuang is not as good as Huashan, after visiting the day and night, I prefer the old factory building and the new department store steel structure with the large space of the school auditorium. The loose smoke of the tall buildings. The story and the practicality are very good. Here, the designer and some related institutions of Wenchuang have a good display space. This time, I especially admire the creativity of Taiwan interior and lighting designers, perhaps only with my heart, can do better.

Leonardo Da Vinci multimedia show
This multimedia show is on at Songshan cultural & creative park. Ticket price for adult is twd 450 & kids for twd 420.
There is a drawing demo assisted by computer-aided tech. Also models showing the military tools created by Da Vinci.
I think the most eye-catching artworks by him would be paintings: Mona Lisa, the Messiah, the Annunciation, John the Baptist, Madonna with Jesus & John the Baptist as infants… have seen these at Medici & Musee de Uffizi at Florence some years ago. It’s so nice to re-visit the drawings again & get to know more about the historical backgrounds of his works; also the quotes featuring his reflections on the creative process.
I like the synopsis on his letter to the king as well.
Incidentally, my friend just happened to spot a Chinese typo at the very beginning of the show (a glimpse of…) So funny 😜

Journey to Taiwan - The National Palace Museum in Taipei
There is a common perception that the architecture of the National Palace Museum is in Beijing, while most of its collections are in Taipei. As for how these treasures made their way from Beijing to Taipei, there is a wealth of written and audiovisual materials available for reference, which I will not elaborate on here.
In fact, apart from the rich collections, I believe that the architecture of the National Palace Museum in Taipei is quite remarkable in itself. It not only perfectly reproduces the essence and aesthetic of Chinese architectural culture but also provides a safe and comfortable modern residence for the cultural relics that sought refuge here. It should be regarded as an integral part of the museum's historical continuity and expansion.
A day's visit is merely a glimpse into the museum's collection, and it doesn't even qualify as a cursory look. Despite the rush, the visit was still effective, especially in terms of the admiration and comfort felt towards the Taipei National Palace Museum's efforts in protecting and restoring these Chinese treasures and cultural relics.

Every penny you spend is a vote for the world you want
📝 Taiwan Travelogue part12: Taiwan Design Museum 📝
🖼🖼🖼🖼
The Design Museum is hidden inside the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, and it's easy to miss if you're not careful. The entire exhibition hall, from the outside to the inside, truly complements the name 'Design Museum'. The ticket price fluctuates depending on the current temporary exhibition, and when I visited, it was only 50 New Taiwan Dollars, which is about 10 RMB. You can browse for about 1 hour, and it felt very worthwhile.
🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻
Some of the concepts conveyed left a deep impression on me, such as 'Every penny you spend is a vote for the world you want' and 'A person's dream will always be just a dream. It only becomes reality when everyone holds the same dream.'

#taipeitrip
My visit to the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei was a captivating journey into Taiwan's artistic soul. Housed in a renovated tobacco factory, this cultural hub seamlessly marries history and innovation, creating a haven for creativity. The red-brick buildings and industrial remnants serve as a testament to the site's tobacco industry past, adding a unique character to the contemporary ambiance.
The highlights of Songshan Cultural and Creative Park include its myriad of art exhibitions, design boutiques, and interactive installations. Wandering through the park feels like stepping into an avant-garde gallery, with each corner unveiling a new facet of Taiwanese artistic expression. The park's open spaces, often hosting live performances and cultural events, provide a vibrant backdrop for exploration.
Nearby attractions include the Raohe Night Market, a sensory delight of local flavors and bustling energy. For a serene contrast, the Ciyou Temple stands as a beautifully adorned testament to traditional Taiwanese spirituality.
Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is a symphony of tradition and modernity, making it a must-visit for anyone eager to delve into Taiwan's dynamic cultural scene. It's not just a park; it's a canvas where the past and present converge in a celebration of creativity. #taipei #taiwan #mytravelhacks

It’s such a great space to spend a day here! I heard it was a cigarette factory before and they now used it as exhibition center. I love how well kept the buildings are, there's rusticness however well maintained. Also love how the creative energy was flowing in the whole space with lots of cool shops and artisan clothing and crafts to be explored. #timetotravel #culturalpark

During the Japanese occupation, the "Taiwan Tobacco Factory of the Governor's Office of Taiwan's Governor's Office" became today's Wenchuang Garden. The huge iron shelf is the Taipei Big Dome Stadium being built. The Wenchuang Garden looks short and long. At the entrance to the north gate, there is a small forest park. The large courtyard is hollow and empty. The complete factory building retains the dark gray light in the sunset.
In order to revitalize the old district, the Taiwan government has re-planned the Songshan Tobacco Factory of the Taiwan Governors Monopoly Bureau into a creative park combining art, culture and design, in addition to being used for exhibitions and performances, and Taiwan. The Creative Design Center collaborated to set up the Taiwan Design Pavilion and jointly launched the Hill Hall to promote the art of glass with the famous Liuli Workshop, and set up a light food restaurant in the mechanical repair shop.
Eslite Bookstore was recommended to be flooded on the webpage about Taipei. I have always been a rebel against the trend. One name is more natural and numb, and the name is not too interesting. The Songshan Cultural and Creative Park where it is located is a must for my pseudo-literary youth.
Although it is called a bookstore, it is not only a bookstore. The first floor sells clothing, and the literary design is very strong. On the second floor, there are food, cultural gadgets, accessories, costumes, etc. I am struggling. I try to hold myself. The things in the jewelry store are very tempting, but the price is quite high. Finally I still hold back.
Many stores are selling while doing, and all kinds of literary beauty bosses are very kind. Because it involves creative design, I can't take pictures, but I can't take pictures when I can't shoot them. It's not as hard as I used to be in Beijing's Hutong. I'm afraid that my family will spread out and let others know. Worth a visit!
