A Scenic Shaolin Adventure: From Cable Cars to Geological Wonders
#chinatrip #100waysoftravel #shaolin #dengfeng
When visiting Shaolin Temple, taking the Shaolin cable car is a must. Due to our limited time and energy, we only hiked up to "Gaoshan Lansheng" before heading back. However, from there, we could already see the distant "Sanhuangzhai." We also got to see the "Shu Ce Cliff," a landmark we had long wanted to visit. This famous site earned its name because Mount Song has been submerged by the sea 4-5 times and, along with geological shifts, has created rock formations resembling rows of books on a shelf.
There's a small snack stall on the mountain with reasonably priced food. I found their hot dry noodles incredibly satisfying—just perfect for my taste!

Fast Hands and Still Hearts: Shaolin Temple
#2023TravelWish #henanprovince #china
By now, everyone should know of the famous KungFu shows of the Shaolin Monks, but what impressed me most when visiting was not the martial arts (although that was thrilling) but rather the beautiful architecture, history and peace of the place.
Admittedly, we made the trip off season, so there were not as many tourists, but even so, the quiet of the place stood out. Watch out for my favourite part not featured here, the ancient tree with hundred bear old finger holes used by decades of monks for practice!

Songshan Shaolin Temple, the charm of the thousand-year-old temple is irresistible. The incense in Shaolin Temple is very busy, and there are too many people, it seems to disturb its original tranquility.
Songshan, Wuyue Zhongyue, has a great reputation, but this time, he hurriedly took the cable car to one side, but he couldn't see the whole picture. But it doesn't matter, the regret of travel is actually beautiful, and he can give me a reason to sting again.

For every Chinese, Shaolin Temple is like a thunder. The famous name of Shaolin Temple began in the early Tang Dynasty. In the troubled times, the Shaolin Temple thirteen sticks made a great contribution to the Qin Wang Li Shimin. They were rewarded by Emperor Taizong, and they were given thousands of hectares. Since then, Shaolin Temple has become famous in the world and has been hailed as the first brake in the world.
Since then, the interpretation of Jin Yong's novels, the blessing of the movie "Shaolin Temple", has made this a martial arts holy place that the people of the world yearn for. Many people have not built it in person, and have built it many times in their imagination. Compassion is compassionate, broad and inclusive, martial arts is profound, and mysterious legends have become the impression of most people.
The reputation of Shaolin Temple is really loud. The people who participate in the Buddha are from the bottom up. People hold incense sticks and pray in smog, seeking happiness and seeking marriage. Along the way, the ancient trees are towering, the building is sturdy, the buildings, murals and exquisite artifacts that have experienced the wind and rain, after years of accumulation, people can not be respected, and they are serious and sincere.

Shaolin Temple is surrounded by the Shaoshan Mountain of Yuelu Mountain in the Dengyue of Henan Province. The temple was built in the dense jungle, so it was named: "Shaolin Temple."
"Say " said: "The Shaolin, the forest of the small room is also." Shaolin Temple is the birthplace of Chinese Buddhist Zen ancestral home and Shaolin martial arts. The mountain gate is between the pines and cypresses. The word "Shaolin Temple" in front of the temple is the ink of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. When people walk in here, they will be amazed by the beauty of the place and will be far away from the Shaolin Temple. The history is impressed.
Shaolin Temple is famous for its Zen Buddhism. On the other hand, it is the birthplace of Chinese martial arts. The Dharma founder created Zen Buddhism here and carried it forward. Zen is a Chinese Buddhist sect, which deeply influenced the Chinese people's thinking and culture after that.
The promotion of Shaolin Temple is even more thanks to the film "Shaolin Temple" and Mr. Jin Yong. In every work of the martial arts novel master Jin Yong, Shaolin Temple is almost always mentioned, so that countless people are drunk.

The martial arts of the Shaolin Temple scenic area on Mount Song are extensive and profound
Mount Song Shaolin Temple|||Today, the temperature in Zhengzhou is 37 degrees. To escape the heat, we chose to visit the Shaolin Temple scenic area in Dengfeng. It turned out to be a completely correct choice. Climbing the mountain was mostly in the shade, which was quite pleasant. Now, let me share the route we took with everyone:
We drove to the parking lot near the Shaolin Temple ticket office. You can navigate to the Mount Song Helicopter Aerial Tour. Parking here costs 15 yuan per car, with no time limit. This avoids the parking lot 5 kilometers away from the scenic spot, where there is a shuttle bus that costs 30 yuan per person to take you back to the entrance of the Shaolin Temple. Since we chose a route that does not retrace our steps, starting with the difficult part and ending with the easier part, we took a Didi for 17 yuan to the entrance of the Sanhuangzhai in Picture 3. The parking lot at this entrance is not paved, so it is free. You can also navigate directly to the Sanhuangzhai parking lot, and then take a Didi back to the Shaolin Temple to drive your car after descending the mountain.
Then we bought tickets for the Mount Song-Shaolin Temple scenic area for 80 yuan and a shuttle bus ticket for 20 yuan. We took a winding mountain road of about 5.6 kilometers to enter the official climbing area. The Mount Song scenic area is really suitable for summer visits to escape the heat because 90% of the climbing route is shaded by trees, making it very comfortable. The starting point, Hero Slope, is very steep at first, but not difficult to climb. The steps are high but very regular, as shown in Picture 4. Then we reached Nantianmen-Sanhuangzhai Zen Courtyard-One Line Sky, which is mostly uphill, and then arrived at the suspension bridge. This is the first supply station on the way up, so be sure to bring food and drink, and drink less water as there are no restrooms along the way. After reaching the suspension bridge, shown in Pictures 9 and 10, you have basically reached the highest point and then arrived at the Blessing Platform, a very open platform where you can take pictures and make some adjustments. After that, there are many downhill paths, and the most tiring part is almost over. Then you reach the Lian Tian Grand Canyon and Mount Song Lansheng, where the scenery is very beautiful and suitable for taking pictures. There are also various geological and geomorphological introductions along the way. Finally, you will reach the Book Cliff, shown in Pictures 11 and 12, marking the end of the smooth climbing route. Picture 16 says this route takes about 3 hours, but because we stopped to take pictures, it took us about 6 hours. Finally, we reached the cableway station to prepare to get off and visit the Shaolin Temple. The one-way cableway ticket is 70 yuan. At the entrance, you can buy a round-trip ticket for 100 yuan or a one-way ticket from someone who decided to walk one way for 50 yuan. The cableway ride takes more than 10 minutes and goes directly to the foot of the mountain.
After descending, we walked about 600 meters to the Pagoda Forest, then walked another 200 meters to reach the Shaolin Temple in Picture 13. There are performances here every day, so make sure to arrive before 4 PM to catch the last show. Then we walked about 2 kilometers back to the parking lot. Although the whole journey was a bit tiring, Mount Song of the Five Great Mountains is worth it! Little Mount Song—nailed it 🤏🏻

1. Henan Museum
Henan Museum, located at No. 8 Agriculture Road, Jinshui District, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China, was initially established in July 1927 at the former site of the Law and Political School on Xijie Street, Kaifeng Court, marking the beginning of Henan Museum. In 1961, the Henan Provincial Museum was relocated from Kaifeng to the provincial capital Zhengzhou, where the Henan Exhibition Hall at Zijingshan was handed over to the historically rich Henan Museum. In July 1997, the Central Plains Stone Carving Art Museum merged with the Henan Provincial Museum to form the Henan Museum. In 1998, the Henan Provincial Museum moved from Renmin Road in Zhengzhou to Agriculture Road in Zhengzhou and was renamed "Henan Museum"; on May 1 of the same year, the new Henan Museum was completed and opened to the public.
Henan Museum covers an area of more than 100,000 square meters, with a building area of 78,000 square meters. As of January 2022, Henan Museum has a collection of more than 170,000 pieces (sets) of cultural relics, especially featuring prehistoric artifacts, bronze ware from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, ceramics, jade, and stone carvings from various dynasties. The museum boasts a large number of high-quality cultural relics, diverse categories, high grade, and great value, making it a cultural and artistic treasure trove that witnesses the development trajectory of Chinese civilization and showcases the historical development context of China. Many of these artifacts come from archaeological excavations in the early 20th century in places such as Shangqiu, Luoyang, Anyang, Kaifeng, Xichuan, Sanmenxia, Huixian, and Xinzheng. Among them, prehistoric artifacts, bronze ware from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, ceramics, and jade are the most distinctive. The museum houses more than 5,000 national first-class and second-class cultural relics, with extremely high historical and cultural artistic value, and some of the collections are regarded as national treasures.
On May 18, 2008, Henan Museum was announced by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage as the first batch of national first-class museums. In 2022, the new site of Henan Museum is planned to be located near Xianghu Lake in Zhengzhou.
On December 7, 2022, Henan Museum reopened to the public.
2. Shaolin Temple in Songshan
Shaolin Temple, located in Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China, is within the Songshan Scenic Area, which includes three scenic spots, and the "management" authority of Shaolin Temple is limited to within its mountain gate. It was built in the 19th year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (495 AD) by Emperor Xiaowen to accommodate the Indian monk Batuo for teaching, and it was named "Shaolin Temple" because it is situated in the dense forest of Shaoshi Mountain in the heart of Songshan. The permanent residence of Shaolin Temple covers an area of about 57,600 square meters, and the current abbot is Shi Yongxin, the 47th generation and 33rd generation successor of the Caodong sect.
Shaolin Temple is not only the birthplace of Zen Buddhism but also the birthplace of Chinese Kung Fu, known as the "ancestral court of Zen Buddhism and the holy land of Kung Fu," and is reputed as the "No. 1 Temple under Heaven." It is famous worldwide for the Shaolin Kung Fu developed and continuously improved by generations of Shaolin warrior monks, with the saying "All Kung Fu under Heaven originates from Shaolin, and Shaolin Kung Fu is the best in the world." It is a World Cultural Heritage site, a national key cultural relic protection unit, and a national 5A-level tourist attraction.
In August 2010, the historical architectural complex of "The Center of Heaven and Earth," including the permanent residence of Shaolin Temple, the First Patriarch's Monastery, and the Pagoda Forest, was listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

Henan Travel | One-Day Tour Guide to Shaolin Temple.
One-Day Tour Guide to Shaolin Temple. Shaolin Kung Fu is world-renowned, and Shaolin Temple is a pilgrimage site for many. As a tourist destination, Shaolin Temple can be tricky to navigate, so here’s a guide to help you avoid pitfalls and make the most of your visit. Highly recommended to like, comment, and share!
Shaolin Temple is located between Zhengzhou and Luoyang, about 60 kilometers from Luoyang (approximately 1.5 hours) and about 88 kilometers from Zhengzhou (approximately 2 hours). It’s slightly closer if you start from Luoyang (Luoyang’s attractions are also great, and Laojun Mountain recently waived its entrance fee, making it a must-visit in Henan).
① A relaxed itinerary: Shaolin Temple Main Courtyard—Pagoda Forest—Sanhuang Village—Shaolin Kung Fu Performance (suitable for those who don’t exercise regularly but want to occasionally, like Liu Yifei fans)
② An adventurous itinerary: Sanhuang Village South Entrance—Pagoda Forest—Shaolin Temple Main Courtyard—Shaolin Kung Fu Performance (suitable for fitness enthusiasts and hiking experts)
Essentials for the trip: Currently, a 48-hour negative nucleic acid test result is required for those coming from outside the province, hiking shoes, trekking poles, gloves, warm packs, a thermos, sunglasses, sunscreen, and snacks like chocolate.
Travel tips: The Shaolin Temple ticket includes three parts: the Main Courtyard, the Kung Fu Performance, and Sanhuang Village. The ticket needs to be checked three times, so keep it safe (especially for itinerary ②, don’t lose your ticket).
Upon arriving at the Shaolin Temple parking lot, walk to the Shaolin Archway. The ticket office is on the left side of the archway, and there are restrooms and specialty shops on the right. After getting your ticket, the first ticket checkpoint is just past the archway.
Follow the crowd for about 600 meters, and on the right is the Shaolin Martial Arts Hall (a must-see, absolutely spectacular! Performances are usually held every half hour, but sometimes only twice in the morning. Check with the ticket office for the exact schedule).
Continue walking for about 900 meters to reach the Main Courtyard of Shaolin Temple, the ancestral home of Zen Buddhism. It’s small but rich in history, so it’s worth hiring a guide.
Highlight 1: Lixue Pavilion, where a Shaolin monk performs a one-handed Buddhist salute, commemorating the spirit of the second patriarch of Zen Buddhism, Huike, who cut off his arm to seek the Dharma.
Highlight 2: Thousand Buddha Hall, where the stone brick floor has 48 indentations left by martial arts practice.
After visiting the temple, continue walking for about 400 meters, and on the right is the Pagoda Forest (the cemetery for Shaolin monks).
After visiting these attractions, you’ve covered about 80% of the ticket value, which takes about 2 hours if you explore thoroughly. Next, head to Sanhuang Village for hiking. Buy the more expensive Shaolin Cableway ticket at the right-hand entrance (the cheaper Songyang Cableway leads to the Second Patriarch’s Temple, which is several peaks away from Sanhuang Village).
Take the Shaolin Cableway (about 15 minutes) and continue walking to Shuce Cliff (the most beautiful section, highly recommended!). Reaching this point covers the remaining 20% of the ticket value. Generally, you can turn back at the blue suspension bridge, which takes about 1.5 hours to return. Beyond this point, the trail involves steep ascents and descents, with the steepest steps at about 70°.
For itinerary ②, start from the South Entrance of Sanhuang Village. After passing the ticket checkpoint, you’ll encounter steps at about 60°. The scenery is fantastic, and it takes about 3 hours at a normal walking pace to reach the Pagoda Forest. This itinerary is essentially the reverse of itinerary ①. By the time you descend, you’ll likely be too tired to visit other attractions like Damo Cave, the Second Patriarch’s Temple, and Songyang Academy, which are on other peaks. Therefore, itinerary ① is recommended for a more comprehensive and cost-effective visit.

Lazy Person's Guide to Visiting Shaolin Temple in Mount Song without Climbing
✅ You can book a bus from Zhengzhou Central Long-Distance Bus Station to Shaolin Temple on the Yuzhou Hang mini program from 7:30-10:30 (try to leave early, the journey takes about 2 hours) with a bus almost every hour🕰️ (there are also buses from Luoyang). Return tickets can also be booked here, with the last bus leaving Shaolin Temple at 17:00
✅ Tickets🎫 are 80 yuan per person. After entering the scenic area, it is recommended to buy a round-trip ticket for the sightseeing bus for 25 yuan per person. There is some distance from the entrance of the scenic area to Shaolin Temple, and taking the sightseeing bus saves time.
✅ First, take the sightseeing bus🚌 to the cable car entrance and take the Shaolin cable car round trip for 100 yuan per person. After getting off the cable car, it's mostly flat roads. Walk for about fifteen minutes to reach Shuce Cliff. Taking photos here📸 is quite impressive, and you can see Sanhuangzhai from a distance. If you have the energy, you can continue to climb to Sanhuangzhai. After returning the same way down the cable car, you can walk to the Shaolin Temple residential compound, passing by the Pagoda Forest on the way.
✅ Tour the residential compound. After entering the mountain gate, people will come up to offer their services as guides for 50 yuan per time, which is cheaper than the tourist center. I think it's worth listening to. There are 4-5 monk performances a day in the compound, with shows at 2 pm and 3 pm lasting 30 minutes, and watching costs 30 yuan💰 per person in cash only. Although the venue is simple, you can still experience Shaolin Kung Fu. Not far from the entrance, the Shaolin Martial Arts Museum has free martial arts performances (mostly by students here). The sightseeing bus🚌 has a stop here, so you can choose one of the two.
✅ If you don't go to Sanhuangzhai, the overall trip is quite relaxed. There is no need to climb mountains⛰️, and you won't miss any important sights. It's an easy journey for both the elderly and children.

May Day Attraction Recommendation: Shaolin Temple | The Foremost in the World
☀️Bearing the fame of the foremost famous monastery in the world, and the martial arts color of the movies, Shaolin Temple holds a unique place in memory.
⭐Originally thought to be located at the peak of Mount Song, it was only upon arrival that I realized it is actually situated at the foot of the mountain. Entering through the mountain gate, one reaches it in a moment, making it the first scenic spot to visit when touring Mount Song.
🥇Shaolin Temple on Mount Song is not only the birthplace of Zen Buddhism but also the origin of Chinese Kung Fu, known as the 'Ancestral Court of Zen and the Holy Land of Kung Fu.' As a World Cultural Heritage site, it has numerous historical relics
✅Martial Arts School
Shaolin monks have participated in national wars many times, making significant contributions. Shaolin Kung Fu, with its thousand-year reputation, is renowned far and wide.
During the May Day holiday, there is a martial arts performance by a thousand people, which is a spectacular sight. The wonderful martial arts show wins applause and praise.
Watching a segment of Shaolin Kung Fu, with its graceful posture and strong, expansive power, is a must-do when visiting Shaolin Temple. The visit lasts about 0.5 hours
✅Shaolin Temple
Past the mountain gate is the corridor, and the temple itself is not very large. The three main halls, front, middle, and back, rise in succession: the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Mahavira Hall, and the Thousand Buddha Hall, all shrouded in incense with a constant stream of visitors. Various scriptures are available for free in the temple.
The temple's imperial steles include the 'Tang Taizong's Shaolin Teaching Stele,' 'Empress Wu Zetian's Poetry Stele,' 'Precepts Altar Inscription,' 'Shaolin Temple Stele,' 'Lingyun Zen Master's Pagoda Inscription,' and more. The complete visit takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
✅Pagoda Forest
To the west of the temple, there are 241 brick and stone pagodas from various dynasties. With their numerous and varied sizes, heights, and shapes, they are scattered and arranged haphazardly, resembling a dense forest, and are known as the 'Museum of Ancient Chinese Pagoda Art.' The Pagoda Forest is not open for entry; visitors can only view it from outside the fence. Since it is the burial ground of ancient monks, it is also inappropriate to take photos. The visit lasts about 0.5 hours.
✅Ancestral Hall
Located to the north of the Pagoda Forest, it is the oldest surviving wooden structure in Henan, built to commemorate Bodhidharma's wall-gazing. Inside the main hall's shrine is a statue of Patriarch Bodhidharma. The Bodhidharma Cave on the Five-Breasted Peak is also worth visiting. The visit lasts about 0.5 hours.
🕒If it's a one-day tour of Mount Song, you can reserve 2 to 3 hours to visit the various attractions of Shaolin Temple, with the remaining time for climbing up and down the mountain. If there's ample time, you can also watch a performance by the warrior monks.
🚠The attractions of Shaolin Temple are relatively concentrated, with convenient shuttle services within the scenic area. Nearby are two mountain cableways, leading to two peaks of Mount Song.

Mount Song Shaolin ||| Secret Manual Guide
||| Secret Manual Guide. Mount Song is in the Zhongyue area, which has many scenic spots, and many people can't distinguish the relationship between Shaolin Temple, Songyang Scenic Area, and Mount Song. Here is a breakdown for everyone.
Mount Song is a concept of a mountain range, and all the above scenic areas are located on Mount Song. Mount Song has many peaks, and currently, the more significant ones are Shaoshi Mountain and Taishi Mountain, so remember these two first.
Mount Song is said to be the first uplift on Earth to emerge from the sea level. The area is geologically ancient and has a long history. We can divide it into two major scenic areas: the Shaolin Temple-Sanhuang Village Scenic Area on Shaoshi Mountain, and the Songyang Scenic Area on Taishi Mountain.
Shaolin Temple-Sanhuang Village is a bundled scenic spot, with Shaolin Temple being the cultural landscape of Shaoshi Mountain and Sanhuang Village being the natural landscape. The Songyang Scenic Area also has many attractions, mainly for climbing to the peak of Junji, and other cultural spots include Songyang Academy, Songyue Temple Pagoda, and Dafawang Temple.
It takes at least one day to visit each of these two scenic areas, two days if you want to explore them fully, or three days if you take it slower.
The play method for Shaolin Temple-Sanhuang Village is as follows:
If you don't want to go to Sanhuang Village to see the mountains, you can just visit Shaolin Temple. If you buy a round-trip shuttle bus ticket, it takes 1-2 hours. Mainly visit the monks' living quarters, Chuzu An, and the Pagoda Forest.
Shaolin Temple is the monks' living quarters, the main temple complex. The Pagoda Forest is the cemetery of monks from past generations. It's a 5-minute walk from Shaolin Temple. Chuzu An is a temple commemorating the Patriarch Bodhidharma, a Song dynasty wooden structure, and the oldest wooden structure in Henan. It requires about a 15-20 minute walk, starting from the direction of the Bodhidharma Cave. Note that there is a section under construction here, but it does not affect the visit; just follow the signs from Shaolin Temple towards the Pagoda Forest and look for the Bodhidharma Cave sign, which doesn't indicate Chuzu An, but after walking 300 meters, you will see signs for it. It takes about 1 hour to walk up to the Bodhidharma Cave. Walking only.
There are two cable cars at Shaolin Temple, one is the Shaolin cable car to Sanhuang Village, and the other is the Songyang mini cable car that can only be reached by cable car to Erzu An. Erzu An is not very interesting and can be skipped. Sanhuang Village is quite steep, with nice natural scenery. Refer to picture 8 for the visiting time.
【Shaolin Temple Pitfall Avoidance】 For self-driving, do not navigate to the Shaolin Scenic Area parking lot, as this is not the official one, and it's 4 kilometers away from the entrance of the scenic area. You can navigate to the Shaolin Temple Garan Hall, which is the parking lot.
If you also want to go to the Songyang Scenic Area, be sure to buy an annual pass, which costs 150 for non-locals and includes almost all the scenic spots in the Mount Song area. The more you visit, the more worthwhile it is.
Songyang Scenic Area Play Method
There is no cable car in the Songyang Scenic Area, and the entrance can be navigated to Songyang Academy. There are two eco-car routes here, one going to Dafawang Temple and Songyang Temple Pagoda, both of which are national key cultural relics protection sites, suitable for those who like cultural attractions, with a walking distance of 3-4 kilometers. The other is to Taishi Mountain Square for climbing to the peak of Junji, which can save some time for the summit. The one-way ticket for each is 15 per person. Songyang Academy does not require an eco-car, just a 200-meter walk.
Junji Peak is the main peak of Mount Song at 1491 meters, with about 5 kilometers of mountain trails one way, taking 2-3 hours one way depending on individual fitness.

Shaolin Temple, located at the foot of Mount Song's Wuru Peak in Dengfeng City, Henan Province, is named for its location in the dense forests of the Shaoshi Mountain in the hinterland of Mount Song. It was founded in the 19th year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty (495 AD) by Emperor Xiaowen to accommodate the Indian monk Batuo, whom he revered, at the northern foot of Shaoshi Mountain in Mount Song, facing the capital city of Luoyang.
The residential compound of Shaolin Temple covers an area of about 57,600 square meters, and its current abbot is Shi Yongxin. Shaolin Temple is a world-famous Buddhist monastery and the ancestral court of Chan (Zen) Buddhism in Chinese Buddhism. It holds an important place in the history of Chinese Buddhism and is known as 'the number one famous temple under heaven.' It is renowned worldwide for the Shaolin kung fu developed and continuously evolved by generations of Shaolin monks, giving rise to the saying, 'All kung fu under heaven originated from Shaolin, and Shaolin kung fu is supreme in the world.'

The 'Number One Famous Temple under Heaven' - Shaolin Temple
The ancient Shaolin, a home of Zen, where the remnants of the practice grounds are shrouded in misty peaks.
The mountain shades the stone base as the slanting sun rises early, the clouds obstruct the bell sounds emerging from the deep valley.
Barefoot, traversing the pass to heaven, so vast and boundless, for nine years facing the wall, the sea deep and profound.
To know if the descendants can transmit the Dharma, the cypress trees still reflect the saintly emperor's heart.
—— 'Poem of Shaolin Temple' Song Dynasty, Li Qi
It's rare to have the Spring Festival holiday, and unforgettable is the trip to Henan. The second tourist attraction I visited in Zhengzhou was the 'Shaolin Temple', which is definitely a must-visit spot in Henan. Shaolin Temple became globally famous due to a movie of the same name, and it is known to all.
Shaolin Temple is located on Mount Song in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China. It was founded in the 19th year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty (495 AD) by Emperor Xiaowen to accommodate the Indian monk Batuo who came to preach. It is named 'Shaolin Temple' because it is situated in the dense forest of the Shaoshi Mountain in the hinterland of Mount Song.
Shaolin Temple is not only the birthplace of Chan (Zen) Buddhism but also the origin of Chinese Kung Fu, known as the 'Ancestral Court of Chan Buddhism and the Holy Land of Kung Fu', and is acclaimed as the 'Number One Famous Temple under Heaven'. It is renowned worldwide for the Shaolin Kung Fu, which has been diligently researched, created, and developed by generations of Shaolin monks, hence the saying 'All martial arts under heaven arose from Shaolin, and Shaolin martial arts are the best under heaven'. Moreover, the story of the thirteen Shaolin monks who saved the Tang emperor in the early Tang Dynasty is well-known and worth seeing!
Because it was the Spring Festival travel season, there were really too many tourists, and many wonderful sights were missed. The commercialization of Shaolin Temple was even more astonishing; entering the temple, there were recruitment brochures for martial arts schools, stalls selling various cultural and religious items, fortune-telling services, and even monks charging 5 yuan for martial arts performances (in addition to the entrance ticket). I will not comment on this, but I just hope that such a great historical and cultural monument and creative tourism resource will not be destroyed by short-term greed. I say this because I like this place and sincerely hope it will get even better!

Dengfeng, Henan | A sacred cultural site where Zen and martial arts converge
❤Recommended Reason:
Generally, when people talk about Shaolin Temple, they refer to the Shaolin Temple's residential monastery, which was founded in the 19th year of Taihe during the Northern Wei Dynasty by Emperor Xiaowen (495 AD). It was built by Emperor Yuan Hong to accommodate the Indian monk Batuo for preaching. Since it was built at the dense forest at the foot of Mount Shaoshi, it was named—Shaolin Temple.
👍Most Recommended:
In the third year of Xiaochang of the Northern Wei Dynasty (525 AD), Bodhidharma, the 28th Patriarch from the Western Regions, came to China from the Southern Indian subcontinent. He faced the wall in meditation for nine years at Shaolin Temple, creating Zen Buddhism. Consequently, the Shaolin Temple has been revered by the Chinese Buddhist community as the 'Ancestral Court of Zen Buddhism,' and Patriarch Bodhidharma is honored as the 'First Patriarch of Zen in the Eastern Land.'
👍Most Recommended:
The residential monastery of Shaolin Temple is where the abbot and managing monks conduct Buddhist activities. It covers an area of about 36,000 square meters, with a central axis that currently has seven courtyards in progression, preserving many buildings from the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties. It is a sacred cultural site where Zen and martial arts converge.

All martial arts come from Shaolin!
Shaolin Temple can be considered a presence that I often heard about in the martial arts world when I was a child, and now I am fortunate enough to see Shaolin Temple with my own eyes. Although it is not exactly as I imagined, it still resolves some of my regrets. Moreover, there are really a lot of foreigners at Shaolin Temple. Chinese Kung Fu is world-famous. Shaolin Temple has martial arts performances in the gym every day, half an hour each time, but it's the young monks who perform. They are really impressive. One minute on stage takes ten years of practice off stage, and there's even a chance to go on stage and learn a move or two.
Ticket Price: 80 (half price 40)
Martial Arts Performance Times:
Morning: 9.30-10.00 10.30-11.00 11.30-12.00
Afternoon: 14.00-14.30 15.00-15.30

Drive to the parking lot 7 kilometers away from Shaolin Temple, take a shuttle bus for 30 yuan per person round trip;
Then walk 1.4 kilometers to Shaolin Temple, because there are too many people, there is not much mood to see, and no explanation is requested;
Saw the 1500-year-old ginkgo tree, saw the pot for cooking in the Ming Dynasty, no other impressions;
Did not go to the pagoda forest when I came out, directly lined up to take the electric car for 15 yuan per person to the exit of the scenic spot;
Then take the shuttle bus back to the parking lot!
