St. Lawrence's Church
#world HERITAGE#religion
Built by the Jesuits in the mid-16th century, this is one of the three oldest churches in Macao. Its present appearance and scale was acquired in 1846. Situated on the southern coastline of Macao overlooking the sea, families of Portuguese sailors used to gather on the front steps of the church to pray and wait for their return, hence it was given the name: Feng Shun Tang (Hall of the Soothing Winds). The neighbourhood where the church is located used to be fairly wealthy, thus explaining the building's scale and wealth of architectural treatment. It is a neo-classical structure, with subtle Baroque decorative inspirations.#fallingforfall #tripblazers #spooktaculartrip

Walking the Heritage Trail in Macau to see these colourful buildings!
I crossed the border from Zhuhai into Macau to spend the day walking around Macau. Such an interesting place with both Cantonese and Portuguese influence everywhere.
Must sees:
1. A-Ma Temple - the oldest building in Macau, and how Macau got its name!
2. Moorish Barracks
3. Lilau Square - so charming, it does feel like being in Portugal!
4. St. Lawrence’s Church
5. St. Joseph’s Seminary and Church
6. St. Augustine’s Square
7. St. Augustine’s Church
8. Dom Pedro V Theatre - the first Western style theatre in China. Go inside to see the theatre!
9. Sir Robert Ho Tung Library
10. Senado Square - the iconic square; every building around it is more than 100 years old
11. “Leal Senado” Building
12. The General Post Office Building
13. Holy House of Mercy
14. St. Dominic’s Church
15. Ruins of St. Paul’s - most famous spot, very busy in the middle of the day.
16. Na Tcha Temple
17. Section of the Old City Walls
18. Mount Fortress
Crossing the border took about 40 mins on the way out, and only 15 to come back, super easy for a day trip!

Macau | "Fengxintang" St. Lawrence Church
The Church of St. Lawrence, Igreja de São Lourenço, established in the mid-16th century, is one of the three oldest churches in Macau. The academic view is that the church was built before 1569, underwent multiple reconstructions, and its current scale was formed in 1846.
Chinese people call it "Fengxintang", and it is also known as "Fengshuntang" in Cantonese due to its homophonic sound. It carries the meaning of praying for "favorable wind and rain". It is now a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Historic Centre of Macao.
On the front facade of the building, the left wing is a clock and the right wing is a bell tower. In the center of the hall, there is a statue of St. Lorenzo on the main altar. On both sides, there are small chapels, forming a cross shape when viewed from above.
