Watch the sunset on Tai Mo Shan, the highest mountain in Hong Kong
Tai Mo Shan is located at Section 8 of the MacLehose Trail. There are two ways to climb the mountain. First, walk up the mountain road from the Tai Mo Shan Visitor Center; second, you can walk along the vehicle path of Tai Mo Shan Road. Arrival, of course, you can also drive or take a taxi. The scenery here is beautiful and there is a small amount of parking space. The autumn air is crisp and the scenery is beautiful. When it is cloudless, you can enjoy the view of Pat Heung Kam Tin. You can even see the mainland scenery in the distance. Looking back, you can also see the scenery from Tsuen Wan to Chek Lap Kok Airport.
However, vehicles are not allowed to pass on the Tai Mo Shan Road behind the main peak. Only certain vehicles can drive to the Tai Mo Shan Radar Station. Of course, you can also drive along the road to the Tai Mo Shan Radar Station. It is definitely one of the places to watch the sunset. Great place.

background
Hong Kong has many peaks with an altitude of over 500 meters, the highest of which is Tai Mo Shan in the New Territories - it is 957 meters above sea level and is an extinct volcanic area. Tai Mo Shan is a favorite for hiking enthusiasts. There are many winding trails around the top of the mountain, and it is also a good place to watch the sunrise and sunset. If you come at the right time, seeing the sea of clouds rolling under the peak will be an unforgettable memory for you. In winter, locals like to go to Tai Mo Shan to experience the frost - a rarity in this subtropical city. In summer, the vegetation is lush and you can see flowers in full bloom, including the protected wild lilies that grow mainly on the east side of the mountain. It is not difficult to reach the highest point in Hong Kong. Although the summit is not open to the public, there are many places on the top of the mountain where you can sit and wait for the sunset to capture the moment when the sunset dyes the sky red.
route
First stop: Rotary Park
Entering the park from Tai Mo Shan Road, you will see dozens of cherry blossom trees planted in front of the snack bar. The park has a high altitude and a slightly lower temperature. From the end of February to the beginning of March every year, pink cherry blossoms bloom in the mountains and fields, and the flowering period is slightly later than in the urban area. The park is open 24 hours a day, and some people come after nightfall to take pictures of the beautiful night cherry blossoms. On a clear night, you may even have the opportunity to take photos of the Milky Way and the sea of stars.
Second stop: Tai Mo Shan Country Park Visitor Center
After leaving Rotary Park, walk along Tai Mo Shan Road and come to the Visitor Center on the left. The exhibition gallery in the center is divided into five themed areas, which introduce Tai Mo Shan Country Park, climate change phenomena in Hong Kong and the world, and the impact of climate change on local forests and ecosystems, as well as the polar regions.
Open every Monday, Wednesday to Sunday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays) and the first and second days of the Lunar New Year.
Third stop: Tai Mo Shan Road, Tai Mo Shan Observation Deck
Walking along Tai Mo Shan Road to the top of the mountain, the mountains and city scenery intersect along the way. In autumn, the purple-flowered lavender known as "Hong Kong lavender" grows in large numbers here, and its unique toothbrush-like shape is amazing. There is a huge boulder about two meters high near Tai Mo Shan Observation Deck. In autumn and winter, there are many miscanthus growing nearby. When the afterglow shines at dusk, the golden miscanthus swaying in the wind is extremely beautiful.
Stop 4: Weather Radar Station
The most eye-catching thing on the top of Tai Mo Shan is a white spherical building. It is a weather radar installed by the Hong Kong Observatory in 1999. It is also the highest point of Tai Mo Shan Road, with an altitude of about 950 meters. There are no obstacles on all sides here, and the scenery below the mountain is as far as the eye can see. There are also many miscanthus growing on both sides of a hairpin winding road under the radar station. At sunrise and sunset, it turns golden and unforgettable.

hike to a smoggy place 🌫
⛰It was an exhausting yet worthy activity to hike to the top of the mountain.
🌃Overlooking the bright lights was amazing.
☃️ I would suggest going there during summer/autumn but definitely not winter (dont be like me🥹). I was freezing and keep shaking for few hours even I had many clothes and down on🥶. Of course, you know, the temperature on the top of the mountain is no joke❄️...
💤You have to stay up whole night to make sure you dont miss anything out.
🌄We planned to watch the sunrise. Unfortunately, it was too foggy that day and we failed it🥺. Still, it was a memorable experience and I will absolutely go up again to watch the magnificent sunrise.
✍🏽✨Put this to your bucket list too. Not an easy job as you have to climb up to the mountain, as well as you need to have some luck to see if it is clear enough for you to watch the sunrise. It's worthy!!!

Savoring the Nostalgic Tea Culture of Old Hong Kong
Nostalgia has become a treasure in Hong Kong over the years, with old banknotes, buildings, and toys...
This time, I visited the renowned tea house 'Choi Lung Tea House' in Chuen Lung Village, Tai Mo Shan, to savor its nostalgic dim sum and experience the tea culture.
Unlike typical restaurants, this place is entirely self-service. Guests make their own tea, get their own utensils, and pick their own food. Although it takes some getting used to, it's quite fun. Especially in the dim sum area, where a variety of hot dim sum is laid out for you to choose from. Whenever fresh dim sum is served, guests rush to grab it, making it particularly fresh and lively! No wonder many hikers and nature lovers come here for tea on holidays!
There are many nostalgic dim sum options, such as Paper-Wrapped Pork Ribs, Quail Egg Siu Mai, Chicken Buns, Sesame Rolls, and Fried Dough.
▫️Siu Mai - The Siu Mai here are large, with solid meat filling that is fresh and flavorful, offering a great texture.
▫️Quail Egg Siu Mai - Rarely seen nowadays, these Siu Mai are topped with quail eggs, adding a rich egg flavor. Sinful but delicious!
▫️Shrimp Dumplings/Chiu Chow Dumplings - Although the skin is not very thin, the filling is abundant. Plus, being freshly taken from the dim sum area, they are extra tasty.
▫️Steamed Spare Ribs - The spare ribs are juicy, tender, and perfect as a side dish with rice.
▫️Beef Tripe - The more you eat, the more flavorful it gets. Slightly spicy and very appetizing, also great as a side dish with rice.
▫️Pan-Fried Stuffed Items - The stuffed dace fish dishes are particularly outstanding. The fish meat is flavorful and bouncy, thickly stuffed in green peppers and eggplants. Dip it in soy sauce or chili oil for extra flavor!
▫️Tofu Pudding - Made with mountain water, the tofu pudding here is smooth and delicate, with a light bean fragrance. Add a spoonful of yellow sugar for extra sweetness.

Take advantage of the weather to go hiking.
Springtime is a great time to hike with friends for several days in a row. This time, we went to Tai Mo Shan. It took about 45 minutes by bus from Tsuen Wan 🚌 to get there. The hike up Tai Mo Shan took about two hours. The scenery along the way was beautiful and refreshing. There are many spots perfect for taking photos. Looking out over the expanse, the sky🌌 was very pleasant. It's very comfortable to breathe in the fresh air here🌻. The sun🌞 was out, and there were quite a few people on the trail, so it felt very safe.

Traditional dim sum at foot of Tai Mo Shan
My lunch at Tuen Kee Chinese Restaurant (端記茶樓) in Hong Kong was an unforgettable journey into the heart of traditional dim sum culture.
Located in Chuen Lung Village (川龍村), this traditional dim sum restaurant is at the foot of Tai Mo Shan and still serves their dim sum old school. The restaurant’s ambiance exuded authenticity - busy kitchen staff buzzing around with big bamboo baskets of freshly made dim sum, the aroma of freshly steamed dumplings filling the air.
You can never go wrong with har gow, siu mai, char siew bags for any dim sum meal, and so we tried those and they were delectable! Tuen Kee Chinese Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving an authentic dim sum adventure in Hong Kong.

To me, Hong Kong is a city that has so much on offer - culture, outdoors, nightlife, food and history! I want to travel to Hong Kong to visit Lan Kwai Fong, go cafe hopping in Sheung Wan, go outlet shopping at Tung Chung and...so much more!

📍 Tai Mo Shan
📌 The highest peak in Hong Kong, with an elevation of 957 metres (3,140 ft) above the Hong Kong Principal Datum, or around 956 metres (3,136 ft) above mean sea level. It is located at approximately the geographical centre of the New Territories.
📌 Although Hong Kong is in the tropics, frost and icicles occasionally appear on the upper slopes of Tai Mo Shan, the city’s highest peak and an extinct volcano. This mighty mountain at the heart of the New Territories surpasses all other peaks in the city for its altitude and magnitude, and it’s noticeably cooler up there. Sometimes you’ll find yourself briefly surrounded by quick-moving clouds, or even see them filling valleys far below.
📌 Instead of trees, tall silvergrass grows on the upper slopes of Tai Mo Shan. The grass blades wave gently in the breeze and catch the sunlight as you hike higher up the mountain. When you see the huge golf-ball dome of the Hong Kong Observatory’s weather radar station, you know you are approaching the 957 m summit — another great photo spot. From this airy vantage point you’re treated to expansive views of mountain ridges extending in all directions, as well as the urban areas and sea channels. On a clear day, almost the entirety of Hong Kong🇭🇰 — mountains, city, islands and harbour — can be seen in one sweeping 360-degree panorama😍
📌 How to get there?
🚌 Take bus 51 from Nina Mall, near MTR Tsuen Wan West Station. Alight at Tai Mo Shan Country Park Bus Stop. Walk back along the road and then turn left to follow the path leading up.
🚶Leaving from Weather Radar Station
Walk back downhill the way you came. From Tai Mo Shan Country Park Visitor Centre, the Maclehose Trail leads back down to Route Twisk and emerges beside a bus stop. There, you can take bus 51 back to Tsuen Wan. The bus also stops at Chuen Lung if you choose to leave from there.
2024, I wish I can climb the second and third highest peak in Hong Kong🇭🇰
