Consistently in the top 10 things to do in most Hong Kong travel guides, this is truly a memorable experience. However unlike the main attractions this is far less busy. Maybe due to its location or maybe because some walking is involved, I’m really not sure. But I can assure you the trip here is worth it. The Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery is a wonderful addition to your Hong Kong itinerary . the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery was founded in the 1950’s and is not only just one monastery, but consists of 5 temples, 4 pavilions and 1 pagoda. Tucked away this is not the easiest place to find, but when you do you be instantly blown away by the sight. Lifelike golden Buddha’s, glittering in the sun, stretching as far as the eye can see. As you ascend the 430 steps you will be gazed upon by these looming figures. Quite a surreal experience. And a great selfie opportunity. Check out each Buddha, each one has a unique and different expression. Some jovial and some menacing. Choose your favourite! The statues become grander and more ornate as you climb and at the top is a wonderful temple where you can pay your respects. A magnificent view of downtown HK is provided too. Perfect gift after a long climb. This is a very peaceful spot, and you can just while away some time here, wouldn’t even believe you are in a mega city like HK A giant towering pagoda also greets you at the top. All one can do is just gawk at it in awe. This pagoda is actually featured on the 100HKD bill and is an iconic landmark of this city! You can have the cnahce to climb the 9 floors and see the vista below you. You can sit and rest for a while, or snap some pictures. You can go down again, but this time using a different path. Fewer Buddha’s on this route but watch out for the monkeys. They will appear and try to steal your belongings so be careful! Or possibly just sit and watch you as you go by, who knows! The ten thousand Buddha monastery is located at Sha Tin in Hong Kong. Take a 10 minute walk from the train station to reach here. The opening hours are from 9am to 5pm. Be sure to arrive here early as you would need at least an hour or two to climb the stairs all the way up to the top. There are ten thousand Buddha statues along the stairs, each having their own meaning. This is my first time entering such a special Buddha trail walk. It would be very fascinating and exciting. There might be monkeys along the way up the hill, do keep your belongings with you tightly as the monkey might steal the things from you. Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery, located in Sha Tin, offers a beautiful and peaceful escape from the bustle of central Hong Kong and a look at the countryside. Set on a hilltop, the main access to the monastery is reached by walking up a long and curving set of stairs (approximately 400 steps), lined with hundreds of golden statues. The walk is part of the attraction, and each of the statues is unique, many with quirky facial expressions and other interesting characteristics. Once at the top, the path opens into the square in front of the main temple, a welcome sight both because it's the end of the climb and for the impressive structures and statues that surround the open space. Inside the main temple, small Buddha statues line the walls from almost the floor to the ceiling. In the square stands a large pagoda, and statues surround the complex. At the opposite end of the square from the main temple, the view extends out over the lush surroundings, with beautiful vistas looking over pine trees and rolling hills. Despite the name, Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery is not actually a monastery at all, and no monks live on the site. It also contains far more than 10,000 Buddhas. The complex was built in the 1950s but is still listed as a historic site. To reach the monastery, take the MTR East Rail line to Sha Tin Station, Exit B. This little gem is a lettle far away from Hong Kong center, but the metro station is just few hundreds meters from the trail starting point, which is not so visible. If you just follow Google Maps you'll find the way. Following the cement trail (with steps), adorned by hundreds of golden statues, it will take only 20 minutes to reach the temple, giving you a nice view of the city from an elevated spot.#hongkong
