Kakure - A Colonial Oasis for Cocktail Lovers
Kakure is a bar I've long dreamed of visiting, thanks to its glowing reviews. This week, I finally have the opportunity to celebrate my sis-in-law's birthday there! Located in a colonial-style building on Scotts Road, the bar is not only beautifully designed but also offers impeccable service from the moment you step inside. Given its hidden nature, the concierge guides you up the stairs to a concealed entrance, where you need a password to gain entry. The exclusivity is unparalleled.
The bar itself is cozy, with only a few seats facing large windows that overlook a serene garden. It's a quiet and comfortable spot, perfect for sipping cocktails and enjoying a moment of calm.
We tried several intriguing cocktails during our visit. One standout was the Yamaoroshi, a bold dessert cocktail featuring wasabi-infused Roku gin, fresh wasabi, and cream. Watching the bartender shave fresh wasabi right in front of me was a treat, and the cocktail was delicious. The flavour was both familiar and unique, with the wasabi adding depth without being spicy. This quickly became my favourite drink of the evening.
Another notable cocktail was the Black Storm Highball, which combined whisky infused with bamboo charcoal and a dash of pepper. The infusion amplified the whisky's smoky flavour, making it a perfect choice for those who appreciate a smoky profile.
While the food menu is not as extensive as the drinks menu, the dishes we tried were exceptional. We enjoyed the signature chopped toro with uni and ikura, as well as the Miyazaki Wagyu curry rice. The latter was particularly delicious, with the Wagyu cooked to tender perfection.
Overall, Kakure provided an exceptional experience with its exclusive atmosphere, innovative cocktails, and delicious food.
