The Majestic Dafo Temple in the Bustling City of Guangzhou
Located on the busy and lively Beijing Road in Guangzhou, this Buddhist temple stands as one of the most popular tourist attractions. Dafo Temple was originally built during the Southern Han Dynasty when Emperor Gaozu, a devout Buddhist and lover of palace architecture, constructed seven temples in Guangzhou to correspond with the twenty-eight constellations in the sky. These temples were collectively known as the 'Southern Han Twenty-Eight Temples.' The present Dafo Temple was formerly known as Xinzang Temple, one of the original twenty-eight temples, which gradually fell into disrepair over time.
Although we are not Buddhists, we have been deeply impressed by its architectural design and layout from cultural, historical, and philosophical perspectives over the years. The temple grounds are vast, offering plenty of space to explore. If you visit at night, the temple is beautifully illuminated, presenting a different, more splendid view that is perfect for photography.
Address: 21 Huixin Middle Street, Huifu East Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou
Cost: Free admission
🏮Dafosi Temple, originally built during the Southern Han Dynasty, was initially named 'Xinzang Temple'. It was expanded during the Ming Dynasty and renamed 'Longzang Temple'. In the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, Pingnan King Shang Kexi donated and cast three large green steel Buddhas, hence the name 'Dafosi Temple'. It is one of the 'Five Great Forests of Guangzhou' and its appearance is similar to the bathhouse in 'Spirited Away', making it a popular check-in spot.

The Dafo Temple in Guangzhou gives off a 'Spirited Away bathhouse' vibe
🏰 Dafo Temple was originally built during the Southern Han Dynasty (917-971), initially named Xinzang Temple, and was later destroyed by war. In 1663, the second year of Emperor Kangxi's reign, the Prince of Pingnan, Shang Kexi, rebuilt the temple on the old site and renamed it Dafo Temple to pacify the people.
✅ The temple's Grand Hall houses three giant Buddha statues, each 6 meters tall and weighing 10 tons, made of bronze (Shakyamuni Buddha in the center, Manjushri, and Samantabhadra). It is said that 'as people pass by Dafo Temple, the temple's Buddha surpasses them in size,' making it the crown jewel of Lingnan's grand temples and grand Buddhas.
🌟 The giant nanmu pillars used in the main hall were donated by the king of Annam (present-day Vietnam) and have remained intact for nearly 350 years. The temple's architectural art is a blend of the official temple style of the capital and Lingnan style.
✨ The Nanhai Guanyin Hall enshrines a 10-meter-tall bronze statue of Guanyin, exquisitely carved and vividly portrayed.
🛕 The temple also preserves ancient wells, bells, and trees, which, having withstood the test of time, exude a particularly ancient charm.
⏰ Opening hours:
8:00~21:30, free admission, no reservation needed.
📍 Address and transportation 🚘:
❇️ No. 21, Huixin Middle Street, Huifu East Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province (usually worshippers enter from the south gate on Huifu East Road and exit from the north gate on Xihu Road, which is the best spot for checking in and taking photos)
🚝 A few minutes' walk from Exit D of Gongyuanqian Station on Subway Lines 1/2 or Exit B of Beijing Road Station on Line 6.
❣️ Touring tips:
Incense can be offered in the Grand Hall, with three sticks of free incense per person!
There are merit boxes in the temple (QR code payment available), and you can also pay to light lamps for blessings (starting at 10 yuan each) or write blessing cards.
The temple houses the first temple library in Guangdong Province, which interested friends can visit.
There are many temple-related items for sale at the exit, where you can buy peace charms and prayer beads.
The vegetarian food here is also famous; there is a vegetarian buffet restaurant on the negative first floor of Pu Jue Building, 108 yuan per person on weekdays, and 138 yuan per person on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month. Dongge Building's second floor has a vegetarian pavilion where you can order dishes and eat set meals.
The lighting time is from 19:00 to 21:00. As the lights come on at dusk, the illuminated buildings make visitors feel as if they are in Hayao Miyazaki's animation 'Spirited Away'.
When visiting the temple, do not make loud noises, take photos of the architectural environment only, and do not photograph the Buddha statues!

Photo time in Guangzhou! Captured the blooming Dafo Temple!
Went to Beijing Road in Guangzhou for food and shopping over the weekend, and took a series of photos of the illuminated Dafo Temple at night, along with the nearby trees that were also in full bloom. It was truly beautiful! 🌸🌸🌸
Lots of people were taking pictures, click, click, click~ I also snapped a few shots of the Dafo Temple from different angles.
Just a tip, the lights don't come on until 7 pm and last until 9 pm, so if you like to capture night scenes of the Dafo Temple, keep an eye on the time.
I heard that the opening hours of the Dafo Temple are from 8 am to 7:30 pm, and some people go in to burn incense and worship Buddha. It's best not to take pictures of the Buddha statues, though!
I learned that the Dafo Temple was originally built during the Southern Han Dynasty and has a history of over a thousand years. Now, with the night lights, the Dafo Temple has an ancient Tang Dynasty vibe, and some even say it's like a real-life Spirited Away! What do you think?

GZ Big Buddha Temple - The most beautiful
Guangzhou Big Buddha Temple is the MOST beautiful, and the biggest temple I’ve ever seen in China so far.
In Chinese it is called: 大佛寺 - Which literally means Grand Buddha Temple. It is located in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou. (basically - Beijing road pedestrian street)
The building is absolutely gorgeous in the evening as you can see in the pictures, I was amazed by the way it looks.
Definitely worth your time to go over and see this amazing building at least once! even if you are not really interested in temple etc. You can still enjoy the beauty of the building in the evening with the lights.
another thing that I think is making the temple to stand out and look even more beautiful is that is it surrounded by modern buildings and constructions from all sides.

Guangzhou Culinary Journey: A Feast for the Senses
#chinatrip #guangzhou
Guangzhou, a vibrant city rich in history and culture, is also a paradise for food lovers. On this trip, we decided to focus on exploring the city’s culinary delights, savoring every bite of its renowned cuisine.
Our gastronomic adventure began with a visit to a famous dim sum spot. Dim sum is an integral part of life in Guangzhou, featuring a variety of exquisite small dishes. From shrimp dumplings and char siu buns to steamed siu mai, each bite was a burst of authentic Cantonese flavor. As we enjoyed these treats, we also felt the relaxed and warm atmosphere that characterizes Guangzhou.
For lunch, we chose a time-honored Cantonese restaurant. The menu featured classic dishes like white-cut chicken, soy sauce fried prawns, and sweet and sour pork. The standout was the fried prawns, which were tender, juicy, and melted in our mouths, leaving a lasting impression.
This trip to Guangzhou allowed us to indulge in a range of delicious foods and deeply appreciate the city’s unique charm. The city’s cuisine is not only a delight for the taste buds but also a reflection of its rich cultural heritage. We look forward to our next visit to Guangzhou, eager to explore even more of its culinary treasures.

Solo trip after resignation to Guangzhou Dafosi
When traveling in Guangzhou, I specially went to the ancient Dafosi temple to pay a visit. It is located on Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, and it was really quite shocking. Before coming, I looked up some guides and thought it looked a lot like the buildings in Spirited Away! After arriving, I saw many exquisite statues of Guanyin , and it is a thousand-year-old temple. Personally, I feel that visiting and taking photos at night is more picturesque than during the day 😎. When entering Dafosi, I even saw a cat and petted it for a while, very cute ! Inside, you can light incense and request holy items! There are also sutra recitations 🙏. Because I didn't bring mosquito repellent, after getting bitten about a dozen times, I couldn't stand it anymore and hurried back to the hotel .

The Grand Buddha Ancient Temple
The Grand Buddha Ancient Temple is one of the five major Buddhist monasteries in Guangzhou. It was originally built during the Southern Han Dynasty, known then as Xinzang Temple; it was expanded in the Ming Dynasty and renamed Longzang Temple; it was destroyed by war in the early Qing Dynasty, and after reconstruction, it was named the Grand Buddha Temple because it houses three large Buddha statues.
The pink kapok flowers at the entrance of the temple bloom splendidly. Strolling through the temple, with the incense smoke curling up and the Buddhist chants echoing, one's mood becomes calm without even noticing.

Do you know the Great Buddha Temple in Guangzhou?
The Great Buddha Temple is located in the Longzang community of Beijing Street, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou. It was originally built during the Southern Han Dynasty (917-971) and was named Xinzang Temple. During the Yuan Dynasty (1271—1368), it was renamed to Futian Hermitage. In the Ming Dynasty (1368—1644), it was expanded and renamed to Longzang Temple. By the end of the Ming Dynasty, the temple site was converted into the office of the imperial censor. It was destroyed by fire during the Qing army's invasion of Guangdong, and the site became ruins. In the second year of Kangxi (1663), the Prince of Pingnan, Shang Kexi, rebuilt the temple on the old site of Longzang Temple to pacify the people, and it was renamed the Great Buddha Temple.
Because the temple's main hall enshrines three large Buddha statues, it was said that 'one passes by the Great Buddha Temple, where the temple's Buddha is larger than the person,' and its grandeur as well as the size of the Buddhas were known as the crown of Lingnan, hence the name. The temple covers an area of 5,000 square meters and is one of the 'Five Great Buddhist Monasteries' in Guangzhou, with a long history. The giant nanmu pillars used in the main hall were donated by the king of Annam (present-day Vietnam) and have remained intact for nearly 350 years. Its architectural art is a blend of the imperial temple style of the capital and the Lingnan style.
Visiting Beijing Road can include a tour of the Great Buddha Temple, which generally takes about 30 minutes.

The ancient Dafo Temple has thrived for a thousand years, embodying the prosperity of old Guangzhou and heralding wealth in the New Year as a sacred place for making wishes
Dafo Temple was established during the Southern Song Dynasty, and upon reflection, it truly is a millennium-old temple where the incense has never ceased burning. It is nestled in Guangzhou's busiest commercial pedestrian street—Beijing Road—where the pure land of Buddhism collides with the bustling capital market. The Guangming Plaza and Guangbai department store serve like its guardian deities on either side, presenting a stark contrast that is profoundly striking.🙏 Precisely because of this, Dafo Temple is all the more approachable and precious.
As a child, I visited many times, but due to being busy, it's probably been about ten years since my last visit. Entering Dafo Temple, I can't help but feel a little excited.🙏 The towering architecture and the sound of Buddhist chants create an atmosphere where the hustle and bustle of Beijing Road is completely shut out—prompting an instant sense of tranquility and relaxation.
Walking to the historically significant Daxiong Hall, the hall's giant Nanmu pillars have withstood more than 350 years of weathering without damage. Inside the hall, there are three golden Buddha statues; in the center is Sakyamuni Buddha representing the present, to the right is the Medicine Buddha representing the past, and to the left is Maitreya Buddha representing the future.🙇♀️ The three Buddhas have kind and benevolent faces, and their whole bodies seem to radiate light!
Circling behind the statues, I see a dazzlingly sculpted Guanyin Bodhisattva! To the left is the Dragon Girl, well-versed in Buddhist teachings, and to the right is the son of the Bull Demon King—the one who can emit the three-flavored true fire, Sudhana... Outside the door, there are deities such as the God of Wealth, Guanyin of Child Delivery, the Earth God, Guan Gong, the Medicine Buddha, and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, all adding to the lamps.🙇♀️ 🙇♀️ 🙇♀️ Devotees kneel and worship in an orderly manner, each with their own wishes, and there's even an uncle who comes in with a stack of scratch cards to pray for a blessing, hoping to win three hundred million immediately!
PS: Inside Dafo Temple, there's also a lucky tree, a library, a vegetarian restaurant, a vegetarian buffet, and a volunteer hall, which you can experience—Amitabha!

I bet no one can leave this store empty-handed! This is the only one in Guangzhou
Oh my god! Here I see the cutest window in Guangzhou, there is magic inside, haha
This is the flagship store of MINISO, three floors! A total of three floors! Can't finish shopping, really can't finish
✅Must experience:
I especially like the "Master Creation Room" on the third floor
The whole wall is designed with a revolving screen of fragrances, each with a number, you can go in and take a look slowly, try to smell each fragrance, it's really wow, and there is a background wall of the perfumer, you can see perfumers from different countries, their own focused areas, and some very out-of-the-circle fragrance works
All the fragrances on the scene can be smelled, there are smokeless incense, sachets, candles and so on
Rich visual experience, coupled with the exploration of smell, while opening up the horizon, can also read the story behind the perfumer well
This environment is super healing, it is a place I highly recommend
When you come to this store, don't miss the third floor
It's worth spending some time, immersing yourself in it, it's a very nourishing place
Compared to other MINISO retail stores, this store, of course, has its out-of-the-circle features
Various dreamy cartoon co-branded models, make you love it -
Strawberry bear, too cute, milk fufu, life healing plush toy, I think, most girls are irresistible, hehe
(If you see a suitable plush toy, take it home, hahaha)
The atmosphere of the Year of the Dragon has been full, the whole store is decorated with the Year of the Dragon, red envelopes, various co-branded IPs, all piled up on the entire shelf
Since you're here, are you sure you don't want to buy a few favorites to take home? Give friends, give yourself, give children, haha (Women always can't control their wallets when they go shopping---New Year, always pamper yourself once, the most important thing is to be happy)
Address: No. 11, 13, 15, Xihu Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou
Nearby transportation: Guangzhou Metro Gongyuanqian Station Exit E
【Recommended citywalk nearby】
👍Most recommended:
Dafo Temple, you must go for a walk (next to MINISO)
Gaodi Street, built in the Song Dynasty, named for the many high mansions in this area. A street with a lot of historical background, the government has now revitalized this place, you can go in and take a look
A particularly outstanding red house on Beijing Road (Golia Brand House)
This old building is the Guangfu Xiguan Building, which has a special sense of age and is worth checking in
It's New Year! It's New Year!
This is a small life healing shop full of joy, you may have been to many of their retail stores, but this flagship store, don't miss it, there are many surprises
Life is already hard
Occasionally, you need some warmth to heal yourself, a fragrance, a small gift that touches yourself, can enhance the energy of the heart
In the new year, I wish you a great display of dragon pictures and good luck
Happy Chinese New Year

Travel guide to the ancient Buddha Temple in Guangzhou
Strolling on Beijing Road, I accidentally stumbled into the Buddha Temple. The place is small but very quiet, which weakens the originally impetuous atmosphere in the bustling city. It must be what is meant by 'hidden in the city'!
🏮History:
The Buddha Temple is located in the bustling Beijing Road in Guangzhou. It was first built in the Southern Han Dynasty, initially named 'Xin Zang Temple', called 'Long Zang Temple' in the Ming Dynasty. In the third year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1664), the King of Pingnan, Shang Kexi, donated money to build the temple here, and cast three large bronze Buddhas in the temple, hence the name Buddha Temple.
🏮Present:
The Buddha Temple is still being repaired and expanded, and the artistic level is even better than before. If you go to Beijing Road, don't miss it!
🏮Recommendation:
Come to the Buddha Temple in the afternoon and evening! The soft afternoon light allows you to clearly and carefully appreciate the exquisite design inside and outside the temple. The night lights of the Buddha Temple are like a dream, very photogenic.
