The Green Corridor Rail Hike
#singapore #railway #hike #nature #hiking #nature
The Green Corridor is a newly created path by the Singapore government which opened less than 5 years ago and this was used to be the old rail way that runs from Malaysia and into Singapore.
The hike brings you from the centre of Singapore up towards Bukit timah area, you will see loads of ppl cycling, jogging or basically just strolling in nature.
At king alber park area, you will see an old train station that is still there, believe this is still kept as a heritage site. To access this railway corridor, you can enter either near the bouna vista mrt or the king Albert Park blue line.

A hike loop from macritchie
Looking for a nice pleasant weekend walk on a weekend and instead of heading to the common macritchie walking trials, or the bukit timah nature reserve trails or even the green corridor trials why not head along the old lornie Road and make a loop back to macritchie instead.
This road will bring you pass the once heavily used Lonnie road where its now very quiet and filled with unsweep leaves, thru a forested area near the polo club located at Mount pleasant road, which also brings you pass the Colonial buildings which is a police mess hall and also brings you pass horses which is for the polo club.
This is a relatively simple pleasant walk which has very little slops and plus this is also well covered with trees making this a very cooling walk in the morning

Green trip down memory lane and great outdoors
The Greenway, or the Green Corridor, is the repurposed track that used to be the railway that ran from East Malaysia down to Singapore. It now serves to be the daily run routes of many Singaporeans, and is connected to many places of interest and heritage, including (shown in photos) the old Bukit Timah train station, the old truss bridge, and the Masjid Hang Jebat. For easy entry, take a train via the blue Downtown MRT line and hop off at the King Albert Park station. Pop out at the South side of the station near the Bukit Timah Road side and turn left towards the KAP mall.

The Bukit Timah Railway 1932 Cafe
Planning to do a hike at the green corridor this weekend? The green corridor is a 24km long trial that starts from Tanjong Pagar towards Kranji. But if you are looking for a photo and scenic spot with a cafe, it's a better place to start at King Albert Park area where the black metal bridge is.
That area has many photo opportunities as it has been renovated to more of a attraction sports for bothocals and foreigners to understand the old rail way track since the start of its operation where now its just a heritage for Singaporeans to discover. There is also now a small little cafe situated in the same area called 1932 cafe which had also just recently open. On weekends, it gets really crowded due to its small cafe space serving all your local traditional singapore food.

Bukit Timah Station to The Rail Mall
#bucketlistreboot
The 24 kilometers long Rail Corridor also called Green Corridor from Tanjong Pagar to Woodlands the old railway track serves as a recreational corridor for all. I start the walk from Bukit Timah Station toward The Rail Mall, the nearest MRT station to Bukit Timah Station is Downtown line King Albert Park ( DT6 ), which is 250 metres 3 minutes walk away.
Observe flora, fauna and wildlife from a distance, it is not lit at night, please go during daylight. During the walk, you could hear birds singing, insect sounds and see squirrels and monkeys. Part of the railway tracks are still there to make it more interesting.

Old Heritage Of Bukit Timah Railway
What's a great morning weekend with a walk at the green corridor! Start either from bouna vista MRT or Jelita Shopping centre.
We started at Bouna Vista MRT which took us approx 30mins to reach the old bukit timah railway heritage which is a distance of 4km. Weekend mornings are normally filled with loads of cyclists, joggers hikers and family with kids, so suggest to go earlier in the morning.
Also do check the weather before heading to the green corridor as there are no shelters along the way instead just 2 flyovers along the route which can shelter you from any rain.
There is also a small cafe that popped up recently, 1932 story, due to the recent hype it gets very crowded. Cafe opens at 9am, advise to really be there earlier!

Nature In The Centre Of Singapore
Singapore promotes a healthy lifestyle. So when weekends hit, Singaporeans will head to parks, beaches or the gym for classes.
But do you know, there is a nature walk located very near to civilisation. It was once the old rail way track which now converted to running trial. A stone throw away from bouna vista Station, a 5km trial runs towards bukit timah towards King Albert Park. The old rail way bridge structure is still located there and it stretch out all the way even to the rail way mall.
This track is well used by many joggers and cyclist from the young to the old. But do be reminded to keep to your left as the track is pretty narrow. Approximately about 4 people wide, and when a cyclist comes by you can imagine how narrow it becomes. Also, if you are looking for a night hike, do remember your lights as this trail isn't lighted in the night, so it be literally pitch black.

Railway from the past
In the past, the railway was a means of public transportation between Singapore and Malaysia, which was a great alternative to taking buses, cars or even planes to travel between the countries. For me, the memory of taking the overnight train starting from Tanjong Pagar Railway station lingers even after so long.
Now, it has been refurbished to become a place for hikers, joggers and cyclists to explore, and at the same time to preserve pieces of history, such as the bridges and Bukit Timah Railway Station. While the full length is 24km, you may have the option to walk certain parts of it instead of having to cover the whole route. The historical parts of the corridor are mainly found in the central section near Hillview MRT, while the other parts are mostly nature trails.
You may find many photo spots can be found along here. If possible, try to go there early to avoid the hot afternoon sun and the crowds too.
