Jiaxiulou, witness to the prosperity of Guiyang's history!

Jiaxiulou Jiaxiulou was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and "Jiaxiu" means "outstanding scholars". Currently, Jiaxiulou is designated as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council as part of the "Wenchang Pavilion, Hehe and Jiaxiulou", and has become a must-visit attraction for tourists in Guiyang. Jiaxiulou is divided into three parts: Fuyu Bridge, Jiaxiulou, and Cuiwei Garden, which are ancient and elegant architectural complexes. With the towering buildings of the city, the combination of ancient and modern styles echoes each other, making people sigh with emotion for the vicissitudes of history. Visit Jiaxiu Tower around 4pm, and if you're lucky, you can see the fiery clouds. Wander around and grab some food, and when night falls, take a stroll through the bustling night market streets to see the prosperity fade away. Guiyang - hills, forests and monkeys.

Resting at about 1200 m altitude, Guiyang is a reasonably cold city in winter for that far south. What is striking about it, is the sheer amount of green the city incorporates. It does not therefore, come as a surprise, that its main sights are actually parks and forests and animals living there. We chose to stay in the center, near where the two metro lines cross. It was a solid location, but a bit further south, closer to the Nanming river, would have been optimal. If budget is not a consideration for you booking one of the upscale hotels with a view of the river and the Jiaxiu pavilion is a great option. Taking an evening stroll along the river was pleasant, Jiaxiu pavilion and especially the bridge it sits on have a really authentic feel to it. Further west down the river there are really nice murals that combined with some 'projector magic' tell really nice stories at night. Guiyang is also known as a liquor producer, so if you spot some buildings reminding you of liquor bottles it is not your imagination. What I found a bit infuriating about the city center is how restricted its streets and pavements feel. Very rarely will a street let you cross without shoving you down to a shabby looking underpass with no working escalator. While this works great for the traffic safety, it does make a casual stroll around the city quite annoying. But, where the Guiyang really shines and why it should be visited are its parks and forests. To start with QianLing Mountain Park was probably the best place we went to in Guiyang. A large centrally located park in the middle of the city has everything you would want from a park. Hills, forests, small lakes, temples, great views, a cable car for those less willing to hike, a small zoo and of course the monkeys. A lot of monkeys. A lot of always hungry monkeys. While I found them great and highly entertaining in their attempts to steal and rob you of anything that can count as food, some precaution might be in order. Keep your backpacks firmly zipped, your phone unexposed and in general do not show any food unless you are willing to have it taken from you. Apart from QianLing, Guiyang's aptly named forest park is another large park. I am actually not sure if there is an official entrance to this large patch of forest. I entered by a muddy road bypassing a construction site and exited on the other side through someone's vegetable farm. Still, the actual forest is really nice and large and there is a Red cross memorial for those interested in Wartime history. To sum up, we liked Guiyang, it felt rather different than most big cities. Really green, the city itself a bit rundown, but also laid back. #urbanexplorer#wintergetaway

Jiaxiu pavilion heritage landscape area is located in the mother river of Guiyang, the Nanming river fishing bay on the South of Gui mountain. Surrounded by the large river, Jiaxiu pavilion got a quite number of attractions around it namely the Fuyu bridge, International Buddhist temple, Cui Wei garden, Ji Hong bridge, Temple of Marquis among the few. These attractions and scenic spots all reflect the traditional Chinesr cultire of "harmony between man and nature" thought. Built in the 26th year of Wanli period of Ming dynasty (1598), Jiaxiu is so rich in history and it is one of the top ten buildings in the whole of China, it witnessed the changes of times and narrated about the cultural heritage. Jiaxiu Tower, Guiyang

Jiaxiu Tower is located in central Guiyang, right next to the river area. We arrived on a February evening, but it was still a nice time of year to visit. The evening is definitely the best time to come here as it is accompanied by an illuminating light show of the pavilion itself along with the surrounding buildings. The various laser dances, multicolor lighting scenes and traditional music makes this a worthwhile attraction to visit in Guiyang. I especially enjoyed the reflective aspects of the lights off the water and the pavilion and bridge areas. During the summer vacation, the first to third floors of the Guizhou Provincial Museum were closed, which was very puzzling. 2. Guiyang's public transportation stations are scattered, and there is no subway near any of the major attractions. Buses are also congested, so it is recommended to take a taxi. Be aware that some taxi drivers may take detours, especially those who seem enthusiastic and talkative. We personally experienced a taxi ride that should have cost around 10 yuan, but the driver charged us 24 yuan. 3. Guizhou's attractions are very scattered, especially in the endless mountains. Overall Impression The Guiyang trip has finally come to a perfect end! 1. We actually stayed in Guizhou for 7 days, using Guiyang as the center for day trips to Huangguoshu Waterfall, Libo Xiaoqikong, and Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village. We spent the rest of the time resting in Guiyang, so the Guiyang itinerary was relatively relaxed. 2. The food in Guiyang is delicious, but the attractions are not particularly outstanding. We didn't go to Qianling Mountain Park because we are afraid of monkeys. The weather in Guiyang is quite cool, making it suitable for summer vacations. Traveling off-peak is very comfortable. Even though it was raining heavily, we decided to walk there to admire its grandeur and enjoy the scenery of Jiaxiu Tower day and night, feeling the aura of a thousand years of cultural heritage. According to records, in the 26th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1598), Jiang Dongzhi, in his third year as the governor of Guizhou, built a tower on a large rock in the Nanming River, naming it Jiaxiu Tower, which means 'outstanding talent.' A bridge called Fuyu Bridge was built to connect both sides of the river. The tower has undergone several renovations over the years, including in the first year of the Tianqi reign (1621) and the 28th year of the Kangxi reign (1689) of the Qing Dynasty. The current structure was rebuilt in the first year of the Xuantong reign (1909). In 1981, the cultural relics department restored Jiaxiu Tower according to its original Ming Dynasty design, using modern building materials and techniques for the foundation and reconstructing Hanbi Pavilion. Jiaxiu Tower is a three-story, three-eave, four-cornered pavilion-style building with flying eaves and upturned corners. It stands about 20 meters high from the bridge deck to the top of the tower, supported by 12 stone pillars and surrounded by white carved stone railings. The tower is connected to both sides of the river by the stone-arched Fuyu Bridge, which has nine arches and is over 90 meters long, known as 'Nine Eyes Reflecting the Sandbar.' After the liberation, two arches were filled in to build a road along the river, leaving seven visible arches. The bridge has Hanbi Pavilion on it, Hanbi Pool and Shuiyue Terrace below it, and a stone and wood archway at the bridgehead with the inscription 'Relics of the South City.' To the south of the bridge is the ancient architectural complex 'Cuiwei Garden.' The front of Jiaxiu Tower has a plaque with the characters 'Jiaxiu Tower,' written by the scholar Xie Shiqin during the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty. The plaque was lost during the Cultural Revolution but later recovered, with the characters 'Xiu' and 'Lou' found and the character 'Jia' recreated based on old photos. The plaque is now hung on the top floor of the tower. The main entrance on the first floor has a couplet written by Yi Peishen of the Qing Dynasty and supplemented by contemporary calligrapher Zhao Xilin. The upper line reads: 'In this turbulent world, I climb the tower to ask about the joys and sorrows of the counties in the west, never forgetting the daily records of peace and happiness.' The lower line reads: 'In this vast world, I bow my head and sigh at the ancient and modern landscapes, relying on outstanding talents to ensure safety and prosperity.' (The lower line is incomplete, with one character missing.) There is also a long couplet by Liu Yunliang about Jiaxiu Tower. The upper line reads: 'For five hundred years, it has stood firmly on the rock, supporting the sky, allowing me to climb higher and broaden my horizons. Look to the east at Hengxiang, to the west at Dianzhou, to the south at Yueqiao, and to the north at Baqu; the distant rivers and mountains, joyfully spanning two regions, supporting half of the Central Plains. It is just right to sweep away the Umon Gorge, dismantle the Masa Fort, organize the Chicken Camp, and guard the Dragon Pass, laboriously creating a place of music and beauty, a land of picturesque scenery. Do not say that the bamboo land is desolate, it cannot compete with the grandeur of Shenzhou.' The lower line reads: 'For thousands of feet, it towers over Niudu, forever guarding the border, asking who will carve the double pillars again, holding back the surging waves. Remember Qin's thorny road, Han's establishment of the Qiang River, Tang's pacification of Qielan, and Song's sealing of Luodian; in the misty wind and rain, lamenting the many famous figures who have worn away the old traces for a thousand years. It is better to call the Lion Hill in the moonlight, dine on the clouds of Elephant Ridge, drape the Phoenix Valley, and climb the Snail Peak, slowly ascending to appreciate the golden pavilions and smoky landscapes. It feels as if Pengzhou is within reach, frequently calling the immortals to talk about their travels.' In front of Jiaxiu Tower, there were originally two iron pillars. One was erected in the fourth year of the Yongzheng reign (1726) by the governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, Eertai, to commemorate his suppression of the Miao people in Guzhou (now Rongjiang), collecting weapons and casting the iron pillar to mark his achievements. The other was erected in the second year of the Jiaqing reign (1797) by the governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, Lebao, to commemorate his suppression of the Buyei uprising led by Wang Nangxian in Xingyi, collecting weapons and casting the iron pillar. Both pillars are inscribed with inscriptions and are now preserved in the Guizhou Provincial Museum. According to folklore, the Jiaxiu Tower built by Jiang Dongzhi carries the thousand-year cultural heritage of Guizhou, making Guizhou prosperous and producing many talents. Historical records show that Jiang Dongzhi, courtesy name Changxin, was from Shexian, Anhui Province. His birth date is unknown, and he died in 1599. He was a Jinshi in the fifth year of the Wanli reign (1577) and served as a censor. He was appreciated by the Wanli Emperor for reporting the misconduct of the eunuchs Feng Bao and Xu Jue, and was later appointed as the governor of Dengzhou. In the 24th year of the Wanli reign (1596), he was promoted to the governor of Guizhou. During his tenure in Guizhou, he purchased official land to accumulate funds to help the poor and encouraged scholars to study diligently. He built Jiaxiu Tower with the intention of 'outstanding talent and producing many talents,' earning the reputation of 'the best governor.' Jiaxiu Tower is a tranquil place in the bustling city. At night, it is brightly lit, becoming a focal point of historical culture and modern civilization, shining with the light of history in modern civilization, embodying the spirit of 'outstanding talent in the world.' How to spend half a day in Guiyang

Thanks to the hospitality of Guizhou Tourism in 2024, teachers and people from Jiangsu can visit for free. I must go. First flight to Guiyang, with half a day to spare, I can't miss it. After dropping off my luggage, I head straight to the North Cathedral. One side is Chinese architecture, the other side is Western architecture, which is quite unique. Then it's time to find some food. Traveling through Guizhou, crossing mountains and rivers, there's plenty to eat and drink. Guiyang is said to have many snacks, and indeed, Zhengxin Street, Minsheng Road, and Caijia Alley are all filled with food stalls, one after another, making it impossible to try them all. The Crispy Rice Cake, on the other hand, was very delicious, especially when paired with freshly squeezed Rosa roxburghii juice. The 15 yuan per cup Rosa roxburghii juice here is authentic, with a bittersweet taste. The next day, I went to the Huangguoshu Scenic Area, where the 5 yuan per cup Rosa roxburghii juice sold everywhere was fake, extremely bitter, and a rip-off! It's said that the night view of Jiaxiu Tower is more beautiful than during the day, so I waited by the Nanming River for the lights to come on. The century-old stone road is truly shiny, polished by the footsteps of tourists from all over the world. At 7:48 PM, just as the sun was setting, the lights finally came on, adding a touch of brilliance compared to the daytime. At this moment, the crowd was bustling, egrets were flying, the evening breeze was gentle, and the summer night was full of joy.
