After finishing the noodles, the sky cleared up, revealing the distant snow-capped mountains, which, combined with the lake, looked absolutely beautiful. It is definitely worth a visit. It is said that Karakul Lake is a color-changing lake. Every morning after sunrise, the shimmering lake water changes color with the sun, sometimes deep blue, sometimes light yellow, and sometimes orange-red. Karakul Lake is about 160 km from Akto County and about 220 km from Atushi City. It is 3,600 meters above sea level, covers an area of 10 square kilometers, and is more than 30 meters deep. The lake is named "Karakul" (meaning "black lake" in Kyrgyz) because of its deep and dark waters. Karakul Lake is rich in grass and birds, and its beautiful scenery is made even more charming by the legend of a water monster. Karakul Lake is located next to National Highway 314. Whether you are heading to the Pamir Plateau from Kashgar or descending from the plateau to Tashkurgan, you will pass by here at noon. There are a few bungalows and tents by the lake, which serve as a highland tourist reception station and a permanent base camp for mountaineering enthusiasts from all over the world, providing food and accommodation. I thought Baisha Lake was beautiful, until I went to Karakul Lake.

Compared to the Tiffany blue Baisha Lake, I prefer Karakul Lake along the Kashgar to Taxkorgan line. The reason is simple: Muztagh Ata. Even though there is a risk of altitude sickness here, I still want to take a look. · As the third highest peak in the West Kunlun Mountains, Muztagh Ata, with an altitude of 7,546 meters, has always been one of the symbols of the Pamir Plateau that I yearn for. Departing from Baisha Lake, not far away, you can see the gentle west slope of Muztagh Ata, which is different from the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Because the mountain is wide and round, Muztagh Ata is covered with snow all year round, and there are as many as 128 modern glaciers, so it is called the "Father of Glaciers". · For ordinary tourists, the best place to appreciate Muztagh Ata is Karakul Lake. Although Karakul Lake itself does not have the Tiffany blue color like Baisha Lake, there are many snow-capped mountains here. On the forty-fourth day of heading west, we departed from Kashgar and traveled along the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway G314, spending the night in Tashkurgan County...
