The Walls of Istanbul: A Historical Marvel and World Heritage Site
The Walls of Istanbul, also known as the Theodosian Walls, are a core area of the World Heritage Site in Istanbul, Turkey. There are many legends about these walls. Initially, I just wanted to check them out, but seeing them in person made me realize that my imagination was limited. It's hard to imagine that such a magnificent all-brick and stone wall could be built in the 5th century, 1600 years ago.
The existing walls were built in 408 AD by Roman Emperor Theodosius II. The former Roman walls were divided into inner and outer walls, with the outer wall reaching a height of 8.5 meters and the inner wall reaching 12 meters. Although the existing walls are not complete, they are still very impressive. It's no wonder that even after the fall of Constantinople, the walls remained largely intact.
