Good hike if the weather is good

Baiyun is the iconic mountain in Guangzhou. Baiyun means “White clouds” in Chinese and it’s indeed worthy of its name. You can clim or take cable car to Moxing Peak, its highest point, to have the view of the surrounding. They have different trails for you to try. I came in March and the weather was very pleasant for the hike. The air is so fresh here, no wonder it is called the lung of Guangzhou. Along the way, you can spot local flowers blossomed in springtime too. They do have cable car or buggy service to bring you up to certain levels and you can continue to climb up from there. We recommend to take the cable car up and hike downhill if your time is limited.

Spring comes early in Guangzhou and peach and plum blossoms arrive, appropriately, with Spring Festival. I lived in Guangzhou for three years and I never saw the famous peach garden in Baiyun Mountain 白云山公园 in bloom until I returned for a visit this year. What a pleasant surprise! There were lots of people there but it didn't feel crowded as the peach garden is quite big. Normally access to this part of the park is included in the usual Baiyun Mountain entrance (5RMB) but during the peach blossom season another ticket is required (another 5 kuai); it's well worth the price of admission. In addition to the peach blossoms there are magnolias, bougainvillea and many others. Bring a camera or a picnic and spend a few hours under the pink and white blossoms. The peach grove is roughly in the middle of Baiyun Mountain Park so it will probably take most people an hour to walk there; the east gate near Meihuayuan Metro Station 梅花园地铁站 is the closest, I think (but has a steep stairs-only ascent; the west gate entrance is further but more gradual.) If you're not up to walking there it's possible to take the mini shuttle from the west gate or the top of the cable car. Some parts of the peach garden would not be accessible for those with mobility issues, but the main paths near the gate should be okay. It has numerous paths to climb or go down, but main road is preferential due to avoiding getting lost. From different platforms the panoramic view of the city is available. Fortunately, there was a flower exhibition on Baiyun Mountain, which truly showed the deep love the people of Guangzhou have for flowers. As for orchids, it was also the first time I saw so many varieties, pleasing to both the eye and the mind! Although the weather was not ideal, after reaching the top of Baiyun Mountain, I couldn't get a clear view of the entire city of Guangzhou, but there was a kind of hazy beauty. I could still vaguely see parts of Guangzhou, and I look forward to another opportunity to visit Baiyun Mountain! Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area is located in Baiyun District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, and is one of the famous mountains in southern China, historically known as 'the most beautiful scenery in the City of Rams'. Baiyun Mountain has always been a famous scenic spot in Guangzhou. Places like 'Pujian Lianquan' and 'Evening View of Baiyun' were among the ancient 'Eight Sights of Yangcheng' and it is the first national AAAAA-level tourist attraction in the Guangzhou scenic area industry. It is also the only scenic area in Guangzhou that has both the honors of National Civilized Scenic Tourist Area and National AAAAA-level Tourist Attraction. At the end of the Qin Dynasty, the hermit Zheng Anqi lived on Baiyun Mountain, gathering herbs to help the world, and 'ascended to immortality' from Baiyun Mountain. During the Jin Dynasty, Ge Hong practiced alchemy on Baiyun Mountain and wrote the famous Taoist work 'Baopuzi'. During the Southern Liang Dynasty, Chan Master Jing Tai came here to build a temple, which was the earliest temple on Baiyun Mountain, leaving behind the sight 'Jing Tai Monk Returns', one of the old Eight Sights of Yangcheng. After the Tang and Song dynasties, literati such as Du Shenyan, Li Qunyu, Su Shi, and Han Yu climbed the mountain to compose poetry.
