First day of the year in Tianjin
Finally travel in China is possible again, so I decided to spend the first day of 2023 on a day trip to Tianjin!
I departed from Beijing early in the morning, as the high speed train is only 30 minutes to get to Tianjin from Beijing South railway station... how convenient! 🚅
In Tianjin we biked and walked around these places: 🏃🚴🏻
- Porcelain House
- Wu Da Dao (5 big avenues)
- Italian Town
- Ancient Culture street
Overall, a super nice day ☀️

Italian Town in Tianjin 🇮🇹
Nice to walk around the Italian Town in Tianjin!
Pretty building all around, which reminded me of some of my home town in Italy...
The statue if our most important national poet Dante Alighieri...
and last but not least... some of the best Italian food at the Venezia Restaurant: pizza with mortadella, burratara and pistachio cream, and family recipe gnocchi, and some Italian beer
😋😍🍕🍺

A small Italy in Tianjin 🇮🇹
💫 This is beautiful Italian style town in Tianjin city. You actually should take a mini train to get to the town or taxi, it’s quite far from downtown, but well-known and usually crowded.
🛍 There are many high level brand shops and restaurants. I spent the whole day in the town and ate my favorite ice-cream. Such a priceless experience!
NO entrance fee but all restaurants and shops are expensive except fast food restaurants.

I remember that the last time I went to the Italian-style street was many years ago, and I revisited it today. The cooling of the raids made the girls in the north cold and unprepared, and refused to bloated. The cold winter here became the ultimate goal of girls, especially in During the trip, too many clothes are too heavy, too little to take pictures, but the travel must be based on simple and versatile.
ps: winter wear tips, both temperature and grace, must-have classic costumes, long hooded coats, plus thick solid color base sweater, and the final highlights super warm Martin boots In the winter, the warmth of the feet is the focus. The boots must be thick, lively and dignified, lazy afternoon, strolling on the streets of no one.

Come to Tianjin, listen to crosstalk in a teahouse, and enjoy a fun life.
🌉 From the sparkling Haihe River to the European style of the Five Avenues, Tianjin, a city where the East and West meet, always attracts every soul who loves to travel with its unique charm.
🏛️ In the Italian Style Town, every step seems to be walking on the streets of Europe, and every building tells a different history. Here, you might as well slow down and feel the stories precipitated by the years.
🍜 For food lovers, Tianjin's breakfast is definitely not to be missed. Pancake fruit, ear-eye fried cake, Goubuli buns... every bite is the ultimate temptation to the taste buds.
🎡 Tianjin Eye, a Ferris wheel built on a bridge, is a romantic landmark of this city. When night falls, it is so romantic to rise to the top with your lover and overlook the brilliant lights of the whole Tianjin.
🎨 If you like art and culture, then Tianjin's museums and art galleries can definitely satisfy you. Here, you can immerse yourself in the ocean of art and feel Tianjin's profound cultural heritage.
🛍️ If you are tired of shopping, you might as well go to the Ancient Culture Street to find treasures. There are all kinds of handicrafts and traditional snacks. Every stall is an exploration of Tianjin's traditional life.
🌃 When night falls, the night view of Tianjin is even more fascinating. The lights on both sides of the Haihe River and the river reflect each other, forming a moving picture. Here, time seems to slow down, making people just want to indulge in this fascinating night.

Tianjin Fun
Tianjin is a historical city full of exotic charm 🏙. Over the course of more than 600 years, it has developed a unique cultural landscape that blends Chinese and Western elements, appealing to both refined and popular tastes.
The Haihe River is the mother river of Tianjin and also a witness to its history. Tianjin's small Western-style buildings are known as an exhibition hall of international architecture, featuring Gothic-style churches ⛪️, the Romanesque Xikai Church ⛪️, classical revival French 🇫🇷 public buildings, and Western-style architecture that fills every corner of Tianjin. These buildings also hide many legendary stories. When you walk into them, you can't help but marvel at this city full of history and stories 🏙.
Recommended Historical Buildings:
The Astor Hotel: Built in 1863 by British 🇬🇧 pastor John Innocent, it was named after the teachings of Mencius, meaning 'benefit and virtue'. This time, stepping into it is to explore an old elevator, the first generation elevator installed by the Otis company, which still operates normally today. It can be called the oldest existing elevator in China, having witnessed many years of hardship and still standing by the Haihe River with many stories of celebrities and dignitaries.
Binjiang Dao Pedestrian Street: Centered around the Quanye Bazaar, this pedestrian street still maintains the local commercial atmosphere. Although it is currently closed for renovation, it is a mirror witnessing the history of Tianjin's commerce.
Italian Style Street: Located in the city center, it was once the only Italian concession beside the Haihe River. Walking through it feels like being in a European town. The first thing that catches your eye is the tall clock tower, followed by the hollow bronze carriage, red-roofed Italian buildings, and European sculptures. After restoration, it has become a street for food and cultural leisure, especially lively in the evening when the lights come on, with Western restaurants and cafes ☕️ flickering with lights and live singers performing. There is also a museum introducing the history of Tianjin and future urban planning.
Other attractions include Xiaobailou, Tianjin Eye, Liberation Bridge, Wudadao, Porcelain House, Century Clock, Tianjin Museum, etc.
Food Recommendations:
Goubuli Baozi, Erduoyan Fried Cake, Mahua, Jianbing Guozi, Guoba Cai, Sugar-roasted Chestnuts, Eight Big Bowls, etc.
Southwest Corner Snack Street: A food street full of local flavor and a gathering place for halal snacks. From breakfast to late-night snacks, it is always bustling with tourists, especially with very affordable prices. It features Hai Ji Lao Wei Juan Quan, Long Yue Zhai Zhang Ji Fried Cake, San Xing Zhai Jianbing Guozi, Guoba Cai, and Wang Sangu Beef Pie, etc.
Nanshi Food Street: Also a renowned food street, mainly operating local snacks and specialties. Over time, it has completed its mission and is currently closed for renovation.
Listen. Jiao'er Xiangsheng Teahouse (Binjiang Dao Branch): When you are tired from touring, go to this Xiangsheng teahouse to listen to cross talk and drink tea. The atmosphere is superb, with continuous laughter and applause washing away fatigue.
Two days in Tianjin passed in an instant. Walking along the Haihe River, seeing the dazzling lights and the blend of international architecture, it felt like being in Europe in the blink of an eye...

University students on a budget trip should avoid these in Tianjin
We spent two half days and one full day, so most of the photos I took were at night 😂
Day 1: We arrived at Tianjin West Station at 4 PM. We booked a hotel near Tianjin West Station 🏨 (Junyi Select Hotel, the environment is quite good, cost-effective, and about a five-minute walk from the subway station 👛: 226). We put our luggage in the hotel and then rode bikes from the hotel to Gulou, Ancient Culture Street, and Tianjin Eye (we rode to Ancient Culture Street because Gulou was not very interesting and wouldn't light up, so we just took a look and left. We parked our bikes at Ancient Culture Street, walked around, and along the river to Tianjin Eye where we saw an old man diving 🤭). Warning‼️ The shop opposite Tianjin Eye that sells sauerkraut fish and rice noodles has no flavor at all, very bland!!! We also visited the nearby night market, which felt like it sold the same things as night markets everywhere, then rode bikes back to the hotel.
Day 2: We had breakfast at Xibeijiao, the Jianbing Guozi was quite fragrant. Then we went to Maya Beach, where you can wear hole shoes (as long as the shoes don't fly off during the rides 😆). Only a few rides restrict wearing shoes, and some rides have a weight limit of 80kg/115kg. It's best to go in pairs because some rides require a group of four if the weight difference between two people exceeds 20kg. Maybe because it was just the start of the holiday, the lines were not too long, the longest wait was 15 minutes. The rides were very fun and thrilling‼️ Note: Your neck might feel uncomfortable, and you must use sunscreen! It's really important because my classmate got sunburned!! We left the park around 5 PM because the water was getting a bit cold 🤓. We left the hotel around 9 PM and went to: Italian Style Street, Century Clock, and Liberation Bridge night view, recommended to visit at night‼️
Day 3: We stored our luggage at a specialty store, visited Porcelain House and Wudadao Tourist Area, then went home.
Summary:
Transportation: Subway 🚇 and shared bikes are enough, taxis are expensive 🤭
Accommodation: If the budget is tight, staying near the station is also good, quite cost-effective!
Food: Different from Shandong's Jianbing Guozi, but still okay. Tianjin has a lot of delicious food, but it might not suit my taste, though my classmate liked it a lot.

A Day Trip to Tianjin
Wudadao, a must-visit attraction, features over 2000 small western-style houses with architectural styles from different countries, various antique shops, and coffee shops, offering an exotic atmosphere. It's perfect for sitting down to enjoy a cup of coffee, relax, read a book, or have a chat.
The Italian Style Area feels somewhat average, mainly offering various Western cuisines, with restaurants and bars featuring Italian, Spanish, French, and other styles. There are also some markets where you can buy souvenirs.
The Tianjin Eye Ferris Wheel, one of Tianjin's landmarks, is said to be even taller than the London Eye in the UK. The tickets are not expensive, with adult tickets costing 80 yuan during the day and 100 yuan at night. The cabins are comfortable and spacious with air conditioning, offering a view of the Hai River scenery. The ride is slow, taking about 20 minutes for a full rotation, so even those with a slight fear of heights should not have too much trouble.
Recommended Tianjin time-honored brand, Tongfahao Restaurant, offers dishes like braised beef tendon, Bajen tofu pot, and pot-sticker with three fillings... Each dish is served in a generous portion, tastes good, and is also affordable.

2️⃣ For visiting Dongjiang Port to see the sea, Dongjiang Kailai Yue Enjoy is recommended, which is only ten minutes away from the Bay Park and very close.
‼️‼️ Important Notes
1️⃣ If you want to see seagulls by the sea, it is recommended to go in the morning and at noon, as there are very few or even none at other times.
2️⃣ Most places to visit in Tianjin do not require an entrance fee, but you need to make a reservation for the Tianjin Eye.
3️⃣ Regarding photo sessions near the Tianjin Eye, do not go for the ones charging 10 yuan per photo‼️ Do not go for the ones closer to the Ferris wheel‼️ Those who take photos one by one are nothing special and even call themselves photographers, and they don't even take pictures as well as I do with my phone 🤮🤮 (I recommend someone wearing a blue vest and holding a pineapple lamp, the photos are not bad, but you have to queue up).
4️⃣ There is no need to buy a ticket to enter the Porcelain House; just looking and taking pictures at the entrance is enough, and it's super nice to take pictures there in the evening.

Also, don't forget to visit the Tianjin Eye, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Tianjin by riding the Ferris wheel.
