[Northwest Secret] Explore the mystery and beauty of Wuwei, Gansu.
🌟 Departing from Jiangsu, we embarked on a spontaneous trip and flew to Lanzhou, Gansu, to start an unforgettable journey to the northwest.
🍜 In Lanzhou, we tasted beef noodles in the streets and alleys, each bite was authentic northwest flavor.
🏛️ Gansu Provincial Museum was our first stop, and the collection there gave us a deeper understanding of the history of this land.
🚗 Then, we rented a car to Wuwei, and after more than four hours of driving, we crossed the vast northwest land.
🎑 Wuwei, a quiet and beautiful place, the Buddha statues in the museum made us feel the weight of history, and the spicy hot pot on the street let us experience the local flavor.
❄️ The cold wind in the Binggou River Scenic Area made us realize that the winter in the northwest is completely different from that in the south of the Yangtze River, and we experienced the real cold here.
🌄 The shock of the Yunti Mountain Grottoes made us respect the skills of ancient craftsmen, and the special ginseng fruit made us deeply impressed by the richness of this land.
🛍️ Back in Lanzhou, we accidentally discovered pulp yogurt, the unique taste of which made us memorable and even brought it home to continue enjoying.
📸 Along the way, we used the camera to record every unforgettable moment, from the beef noodles in Lanzhou to the grottoes in Wuwei, from the cold wind in Binggou River to the shock of Yunti Mountain, each photo is a witness to our trip.
🌈 This is a baptism of the soul and a feast of vision. Wuwei, Gansu, a niche tourist destination worth exploring by yourself.

Tiantishan Grottoes.
Self-driving from Lanzhou to Tiantishan via Tianzhu. The scenic area has a parking lot, and tickets can be purchased at the entrance of the scenic area, which is the same price as online. Walking along the Huangyang Lake Reservoir for about ten minutes, you will see the Big Buddha, which is really tall! The reservoir is very beautiful. There is only one Big Buddha to watch here. If you want to see other relocated cultural relics, you need to go to the city museum. The last few photos I took were in the museum. Overall, it's great!

Why is the Tiantishan Grottoes renowned as the progenitor of Chinese grottoes?
If you mention Wuwei, do you only think of it as the excavation site of the 'Flying Horse of Gansu', a symbol of Chinese tourism?
In fact, in Wuwei, there lies the Tiantishan Grottoes, which scholars call the 'progenitor of Chinese grottoes'. It is one of the earliest grottoes carved in our country and represents early grotto art. Although the painted surfaces of the Buddha statues have long faded and the stone sculptures are mostly damaged, it still stands quietly here, telling the rise and fall of history to the world.
No matter the season or time, when you visit Wuwei, you must not miss the Tiantishan Grottoes. Whether you want to appreciate the charm of the grottoes up close or seek a rare moment of tranquility in your heart, this place can satisfy all your desires.
The Tiantishan Grottoes, also known as the Great Buddha Temple, are located in Dengshan Village, Zhangyi Town, 50 kilometers south of Wuwei City, founded during the Northern Liang of the Eastern Jin and Sixteen Kingdoms period, with a history of about 1600 years. The peaks of Tiantishan are majestic and steep, soaring high into the clouds, with stone steps on the mountain. Climbing up the steps, the path is rugged, resembling a hanging ladder, hence the name Tiantishan.
The main attractions of the Tiantishan Grottoes include the Tiantishan Grottoes Exhibition Hall, the Arhat Cave, and the Great Buddha Cave. Walking 200 meters from the entrance of the scenic area, you can reach the Exhibition Hall, and another 200 meters past the Exhibition Hall will take you to the Arhat Cave. The niches on both sides of the passage in the Arhat Cave display the eighteen Arhats, each with a different pose, lifelike in appearance.
Now, only three levels of the Tiantishan Grottoes remain, with a total of 18 caves of various sizes. The largest cave has a remaining height of 30 meters, a width of 19 meters, and a depth of 6 meters. Inside the cave, there is a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, with Manjushri and Samantabhadra Bodhisattvas, the Heavenly Kings of Wide Eyes and Many Ears, and the six statues of Kasyapa and Ananda on both sides of the Great Buddha, all vividly modeled and dignified in appearance. The Great Buddha sits against the wall, with his left hand on his knee and his right hand raised to shoulder height, palm facing outward, in the gesture of fearlessness.
Following the steps on both sides, you can reach the foot of the Great Buddha. Looking up at the silent Buddha, only the wind howls past the side of the mountain...

A Buda protected by a dam
We spent the night in Huangyang and in the morning went to visit the Tiantishan grootes. It seems that there is a bus for going there that you can take in the intersection between the road G312 and the village, but we couldn't find it so we took a taxi.
The price of the taxi is 50 CNY for going there and 50 CNY for comming back. You can ask for it in DiDi.
We arrived there after 25 minutes of trip more or less and took the ticket of the scenic area. The price is 30 CNY per person. The place is really beautiful, the reservoir was full of ice and the picture was beautiful. The Buda is impressive and big. It has 15 meters.
You can only visit one of the caves but only for the Buda and the landscape it is worth seeing.

Tiantishan Grottoes is located in Dengshan Village, Zhonglu Township, 50 kilometers south of Wuwei City, Gansu Province. It was built in the northern Liang Dynasty during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the Sixteen Kingdoms Period. It is about 1600 years old. Tianti Mountain Grottoes is one of the earliest grottoes in China. It has an important position in the history of grotto statues in China, and has the reputation of the originator of grottoes. The
Tiantishan Grottoes are located on the embankment of the Huangyanghe Reservoir. The blue waves are everywhere, the sky is high and the sky is wide, and the snowy mountains in the distance are faintly visible. People can't help but admire. In the desolate and arid northwest, there is such a place. Great view.
Stepping into the range of the Tianti Mountain Grottoes, the sights are the blue-yellow Huangyanghe Reservoir, the path leading to the grotto, and repaired on the water. The Big Buddha Temple is currently the only cave open to tourists. Such a statue of the Seven Buddhas is rare in China.
The two Buddhas of Sakyamuni Buddha are also composed of Manjusri, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, Guangmu, Tianwen, Jiaye, Ananda and other six statues. The shapes are vivid and different: Jiaye is an ascetic monk, so it seems to be more The old man is thin and thin; and the story of Ananda is the little nephew before the Buddha was born, lively and beautiful, and the posture in front of the Buddha is more relaxed.
In summary, the impact process of Chinese grottoes should be: Tiantishan Grottoes - Yungang Grottoes - Longmen Grottoes - Dunhuang Grottoes.
In the Tianti Mountain Grottoes, you can also enjoy the unique folk rap culture in Wuwei area: Liangzhou Baojuan.
Bean..
The caves currently opened in the Tianti Mountain Grottoes are the seven Buddhist caves built in the Tang Dynasty. The entire cave is 30 meters high, 19 meters wide and 6 meters deep. The statues in the cave are all stone sculptures. Due to the nature of the Tianti Mountain, the grottoes are based on chisel-shaped, plastic-shaped, carved along the red sandstone wall from top to bottom, and then molded with mud. In the grotto style of the country, a cave of seven Buddhas is rare. The biggest Buddha among the seven Buddhas is the Sangha Buddha statue ------ Sakyamuni Buddha, 28 meters high, the left hand is flat on the knee, Purdue All beings, the right palm is facing forward, fearless of all evil in the world. The oldest and the youngest of the grottoes are the two disciples of Sakyamuni Buddha. The old one is Capricorn, the first of the ten disciples. Because he is an ascetic, the image is relatively old. The philosophical thought is deep. The opposite of him is Xiao An, the cousin of Sakyamuni Buddha, and the dictation of the Buddhist scriptures after the Nirvana. On the left side of the Buddha is Manjushri, who is in charge of great wisdom, and on the right is the Samantabhadra, who is in charge of virtue. The outermost part of the Buddha statue is the two guardian kings, the left side is the northern king of the multi-wisdom king, the right foot is stepping on the ugly little devil. On the right is the Western King of the Eyes, and the footsteps of the symbol of longevity. This Seven Buddha Cave is known as the No. 13 Grotto.
I like the cave culture very much. I feel that it is a very happy thing to increase my knowledge while traveling.

The Tianti Mountain Grottoes are known as the "original ancestors of Chinese grottoes". They are deeply embedded in the cliffs of the southern cliffs of Dapo Mountain. The scale is magnificent and exquisite. It is a "solitude grotto" that exists silently. It has a feeling of desolateness. . The iconic Buddha in the grotto sits on the mountain, and the blue waves wrap around the body, forming a spectacular spectacle of mountains, water, Buddha and clouds. Other statues in the grottoes are also uniquely comparable to the Mogao Grottoes.

The Tianti Mountain Grottoes are known as the "original ancestors of the Chinese Grottoes". I have seen the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang and I was once again shocked when I came to the Tianti Mountain. Legend has it that in the "Journey to the West", Tang Yan and his four men went to the Western Heaven to learn the scriptures. The place where the ginseng fruit was eaten was in the Tianwei Mountain in Wuwei.
After we came here, we first watched Wuweis intangible performance. Hexi Baojuan is one of the important intangible cultural heritages of the Silk Road. It is an important cultural symbol of the Hexi Corridor and has been included in the national non-material Cultural heritage list.
Looking at the eye-filled autumn eyes, the air is cool, and the rap that comes from the ear seems to know the rap, as if it has returned to the distant past.
There are many relics in the north, and the grottoes in the northwest are my favorite and yearning. The beauty of the grottoes and murals gives a feeling of calmness and soul. Facing this huge cave of loess-colored, probably everyone will worship it. The excavation of the
Tianti Mountain Grottoes brought the sorghum of the Western Regions together. They spoke in Liangzhou and translated the Buddhist scriptures, making the Tiantishan Grottoes famous. Later, the Sui and Tang Dynasties successively excavated, and the Xixia to Ming and Qing Dynasties were still rebuilt. After the wars in the past, coupled with frequent natural disasters, and the cliffs of the caves are red sandstones with very solid stone, the caves are seriously damaged, especially the 1927 earthquake, which caused devastating damage to the Tiantishan Grottoes. Most of the caves were destroyed and the murals were damaged. At the beginning of the liberation, there were only 18 caves left.
