Tiger leaping gorge
Tiger leaping gorge is a amazing place to see and go. In between Lijiang and Shangri-La about 1.5hra drive, I got a tour as couldn't drive as a tourist and a taxi there is a bit much. The river is strong and powerful through this area making for a a spectacular sight, the place is busy with tourists but you have enough space to take a photo or videos of the river. There is a lot of steps down and back up I if you can't handle it, you can pay extra to use the escalator which I found strange to pay extra for, I walked it up, overall 1.5hrs there is enough but I could watch it all day. Would be number 1 on the list of places to visit in Yunnan .#yunnan

A Peaceful Jaunt Through Lijiang 🙏
If you are travelling to Yunnan then it’s likely that Lijiang is on your list. A common combination is Kunming to Dali and then on to Lijiang where you will find a quiet mountain town that provides a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle and beginning many day treks, including Tiger Leaping Gorge.
There was a surprising amount of trendy little hostels and boutique hotels to choose from in the town and plenty of restaurants.
After lunch or dinner, make sure to take a walk around all the beautiful little side streets and alleys and stop off at one of the quirky little cafes for a drink.
I had been told that this place gets really busy however i experienced the complete opposite. It was quiet and amazing! Much more chilled than the busy and bustling streets of Dali! Maybe i just got lucky 🤷♂️

🐅 Trek to Tiger Leaping Gorge 🐅
#newyearadventure
Tiger Leaping Gorge in Yunnan is a spectacular piece of nature. Sweeping cliff edges, insanely powerful water flow amongst a backdrop of huge mountains really is a sight to behold.
You can choose to go directly there by bus or you can do a mammoth 2 day trek, stopping for the night around the half way point (an incredible hotel with views you can only dream of!). The trek itself is pretty tough and depending where you start, can take up to 12 hours so leave with plenty of time to get there for sunset.
Getting down to the gorge is also pretty tough on the body but there is an insanely cool ladder that you can climb if you want to add a bit more adventure to your visit!
The trek was one of my Yunnan highlights and i’d recommend it to anyone but don’t underestimate it, its not an easy one! Good luck! 🤜🤛

Must hike
A place most expats in China have probably been to at some point. A truly breathtaking spot which is actually quite easily accessible.
This is a hike with astonishing nature, gorgeous views and amazing scenery. It's not a particularly challenging hike either and the route is usually split over two days to make it even easier. The stay over point is aptly named 'Halfway'. If you're lucky and the sky is clear you can get amazing night sky views.
Lots of animals roam around here. And the sweeping hills are awe inspiring. Before you start hiking you can check out the raging river if wish but expect tons of people.
Bring cash as there's a chance you'll lose your phone signal. And a waterproof coat as the weather can turn quickly

TIGER LEAPING GORGE-OUS
How to get there: Foreigners can't book their bus tickets in apps, it's advised to go to Lijiang Bus Ticket Office and book your ticket a day before which cost 75 yuan. There is only one bus at 9:30am everyday.
It takes about 2hrs to get at Tiger leaping gorge ticket purchase office where the driver will drop you off and you can buy your tickets for 45 yuan. Get back in the bus and a few minutes some guy will check your tickets.
If you are planning to get to Tina's the next day(this is a guest house where you can buy tickets back to Lijiang or to Shangri-La) you can tell the driver to drop your bags there.
Drop off at Qiaotou where you can get a car up the hill to NaxiWaGe where the upper trekking route begins, from here on just follow the signs.
It took me about 6hrs to get to halfway on the first day.

Lijiang Ancient Town- A step back in time.
Getting There -
Lijiang ancient town is located roughly 35-40 minutes from Lijiang airport by taxi.
Attractions -
For me, the best thing to do during the day is explore. I enjoyed getting lost and taking photos of the old town. To the north is Shuhe and Baisha ancient towns, which are less touristy and a little quieter. Around the towns are plenty of things to do, such as mountain top shows, the tiger leaping gorge, hiking and a few museums.
Hotels -
There are hotels to suit all budgets. There's an Intercontinental on the edge of town for luxury, or you can spend as little as 50rmb per night for a perfectly comfortable room.
Food & Restaurants -
If you love hot pot, you'll love the selection. There's also a wide variety of street food as well as buffet style restaurants.
Shopping -
If it's silver or leather you want, you'll be spoiled for choice. There are also many shops selling traditional Naxi clothes

Best Hike in China 👀🇨🇳 Tiger Leaping
Myself and a group of friends competed the Tiger Leaping Gorge hike in July 2022. We started early 6am with a taxi from Lijiang to the start of the walk. From there we walk for about 5hrs to our hotel for the night. The Tea-horse Guesthouse, I’d highly recommend staying here the views were incredible and the food was delicious. At the time the hotel also had access to a local swimming pool and is exactly what we needed after a day of walking. The following day we completed the walk in about 4hrs, the got the bus from Tina’s Guesthouse to Shangri-la. it’s a must do if your in China. #2023travelwish #china

Eye of The Tiger!
Tiger Leaping Gorge was WILD! Hands down one of my favorite sites in China! The gorge is breathtaking and the surroundings were unbelievable! There’s no way to describe the magnitude of it. If you’re driving into the park (which is what we did), rather than taking the hiking trip, it can be done as an afternoon journey. There’s no need to buy bus tickets unless you want to go further up the mountain. SO worth the drive! I’ll never forget it.

Winter Blue at Tiger Leaping Gorge
#wintergetaway #china #tigerleapinggorge
You’ve probably seen the pictures of Tiger Leaping Gorge. Roaring brown rapids crashing through the valley and a similar roaring sound coming from the hoards of tourists.
Well, if you want a more peaceful and yet, in my opinion, a similarly stunning view, go during Winter season. During this time, the water is lower but still ferocious, and instead of the brown silt, the water is a cool and clear blue running off from MeiLi snow mountain.

Explore Tiger Leaping Gorge
Tiger Leaping Gorge is a scenic canyon on the Jinsha River, a primary tributary of the upper Yangtze River.
This is one of the deepest gorges in the world located at the border of Lijiang and Shangri-La Yunnan Province.
To enjoy a closer view, you can walk down following a trail or take the escalator.
Tiger Leaping Gorge has three sections: the Upper Gorge, Middle Gorge and Lower Gorge. The Upper Gorge and Middle Gorge are popular with tourists for their amazing landscapes.

Tiger Leaping Gorge, Yunnan, China
You can arrive from Lijiang catching the morning bus at 8:45 AM. Purchase bus tickets from N's Kitchen in the old town near the Water Wheel for 45 RMB the night before.
Bus will stop to purchase Tiger Leaping Gorge tickets for 65 RMB in Qiaotou.
If trekking, tell the driver to drop you off at Naxi Guesthouse (start of trek), you will be on the main road and need to hike an hour on the road or catch a taxi. Your bags will be taken to Tina's Guesthouse at no charge (end of trail).
Trek takes about 4 to 7 hours, depending on hiking speed. You can take a horse if needed, guides will follow you for a period of time hoping you'll use their services.
You will need to follow the blue signs on the trail, occasional arrows, and signs pointing to Tina's, Judy's, and other guesthouses.
Trail begins with a gradual climb before coming to the infamous 28 bends. The bends vary in length from a few meters to around 20 meters or so, depending on what you count as a bend in the road. You'll pass a small building where the horse will no longer be of service. You can usually purchase snacks here at exorbitant prices.
Eventually you'll reach a clearing and the top of the mountain. At this point is your last chance to buy snacks until reaching a small village with a few guesthouses, including Tea Horse Lodge and others. At this point you have amazing views of the gorge below. A woman will allow you to take photos from a viewpoint for 10 RMB, or opt for a free view a few meters up trail.
The trail begins to vary in terrain from wooded, to rocky, open with brush, flat, and downhill. The hard climbs are over. There are many scenic views along the way. My personal favorite is about 45 minutes before Halfway House, the ideal stop for night one, in an enclave with rocky outcroppings, a waterfall, and scenic views of the gorge. Also a good respite from the rain.
Along the way you'll come to a small village that includes guesthouses such as Tea Horse Lodge and others newly constructed. Walk behind the lodge on the road. Keep following signs to Judy's and Tina's Guesthouses. Easy to get lost and confused here.
A few more hours of scenic hiking will bring you to a road. Walk for about 20 minutes uphill and arrive at another village. and decide to stay at Judy's or Halfway House (book on trip.com). Halfway House is well established, with traditional, rustic rooms, but great value, excellent food, and best views of the gorge.
When ready to leave continue along the road through the village. The trail branches off to the right, look for signs.
The trail mostly walks along the edge of the mountains with steep drops into the gorge, nothing scary as the trail is wide. You'll pass the highlight of the day, a large waterfall on the trail, you will get wet.
A few hours of hiking through the woods, mostly rocky, downhill trail will bring you to a clearing. The trail becomes steep and at times slippery the last few kilometers.

Tiger leaping gorge
Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest gorges in the world, making it one of the top 10 world famous hiking trails. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain stand on each side, offering beautiful and diverse landscapes. It is divided into three parts: Upper Gorge, Middle Gorge and Lower Gorge. Tiger Leaping Gorge is located between the 5596 meters Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Snow Mountain) to the south and 5396 meters Haba Snow Mountain (Haba Xueshan) to the north. Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point, hence named Tiger Leaping Gorge and the stone called Tiger Leaping Rock. No matter you visit Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge or Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge, you can catch the best sight of the two snow mountains. #skiadventure #staycation #themepark #infinitypool

Tibet Guesthouse - last part of TLG
This is one of the final places to stay along this brilliant trail. It’s a family run business. The owner is very helpful and speaks English. Unfortunately there is some trucks passing as building is going but this is not a big issue. The owner arranged for us to be transferred for free to another hostel to take a bus. If you begin your hike a naxi guesthouse with luggage you should arrange for it to be sent to Tibet guesthouse. Rooms and clean and have a great view. western food is also decent particularly pork sandwiches.

The Jinshajiang Tiger Leaping Gorge is a famous tourist attraction in Yunnan, but there are two scenic spots in the Tiger Leaping Gorge. One is in Yulong County, Lijiang, and the other is in Shangri-La County, Diqing Prefecture. Two scenic spots are across the river.
Jinsha River is the boundary between Lijiang City and Diqing Prefecture, which has caused the two places to operate one scenic spot.
The Tiger Leaping Gorge on the Shangri-La side, such as the entrance down the stairs all the way down to the riverside viewing platform, and then return.
The Tiger Leaping Gorge has a Haba Snow Mountain to the left, and there is a Jade Dragon Snow Mountain on the right. The Jinsha River passes through the cracks between the two mountains. The waves are raging and extremely dangerous.
A huge stone in the river is called a tiger jumping stone. It is said that the tiger can jump to the stone and cross the river to the other side, but the water is rushing, and if it fails, it will be troublesome.
The water level in winter is relatively low, and the water flow is relatively flat. The other side of the river is the Tiger Leaping Gorge in Lijiang.
On the Shangri-La side, there are several observation decks and a section of wooden plank road, and the slopes are steeper.
On the side of Yulong County in Lijiang, the scenic roads are higher from the river and the scenery is different. The
tour passage was opened from the mountainside. It has been going 2 km inside and then returning to the original road. The scenery is also good.
Near the Tiger Jumping Stone, it is also a viewing platform, which can be closer to the river. The opposite plank road is the Tiger Leaping Gorge on the Shangri-La side.

Scenic Journey from Lijiang to Shangri-La
Lijiang is approximately 170 kilometers away from Shangri-La, with a driving time of about 2.5 hours. To fully appreciate the scenic views along the way📸😍 and not miss any photo opportunities📸, it is best to self-drive or hire a private car🚙.
Driving along the G214 national highway, you will see the Jinsha River📸👍 winding through the mountains📸👍, presenting the true beauty of green waters and lush hills📸💐.
There are rest stops with viewing platforms along the road, some offering views of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain👍💐😍📸, while others provide vistas of the Haba Snow Mountain📸🌷...
Tiger Leaping Gorge📸 is another popular check-in spot, with a vertical drop of about 3800 meters from the mountain top to the valley bottom, making it one of the deepest gorges in the world. The roaring sound of the water is thunderous, resembling the roar of a tiger, and is truly spectacular😍👍💕.
If your physical condition allows, joining a hiking group to trek through Tiger Leaping Gorge is an extraordinary experience👍.

It's no wonder that this hiking route comes highly recommended by National Geographic, it's simply magical!
Yulong Tiger Leaping Gorge (Lijiang section), nestled at the border of Shangri-La and Lijiang in Yunnan Province, is world-renowned for its profound depth and majestic aura. As the largest canyon of the Jinsha River (the upper reaches of the Yangtze River), it's not only a treasure trove of natural wonders but also a source of inspiration for adventurers and photography enthusiasts.
🍀 Must-visit attractions:
① Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge: The essence of the canyon
The Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge is highly recommended as it is the narrowest part of the gorge, where the river is only about twenty meters wide, yet it carries the roaring waters that thunder down with incredible force. Standing on the viewing platform, one can feel the raging river water striking
② Tiger Leaping Rock, stirring up thousands of waves, with the shocking sound echoing through the canyon, providing a breathtaking visual and auditory experience.
③ Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge to Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge
For outdoor enthusiasts, the hiking trail from Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge to Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge is not to be missed. The rugged mountain path winds between cliffs, offering an ever-changing landscape, especially the 'ladder to heaven' at Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge and the 'thread of sky' at Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge, which are both challenging and scenic landmarks.
🍀 Address:
Inside the territory of Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, on the eastern loop of Tiger Leaping Gorge Town.
🍀 Transportation tips:
① Self-driving: Depart from Lijiang city center and drive along the G214 national highway for about 80 kilometers, which takes approximately 2 hours. The road conditions are good, with beautiful scenery along the way.
② Public transportation: Take a bus from Lijiang Bus Station to Tiger Leaping Gorge Town, then transfer to a local minibus or taxi to reach the entrance of the scenic area.
③ Chartered car/carpooling: For those who prefer not to drive, chartered car or carpooling services are available, which are convenient and quick, and you can stop to enjoy the scenery along the way at any time.
🍀 Food recommendations:
Naxi Hearth: Taste the authentic flavors of the Naxi people, such as butter tea, pipa meat, and chicken bean jelly. Sitting around the traditional hearth, it's both warming for the stomach and the heart.
🍀 Nearby attractions:
① Yulong Snow Mountain
Just a few kilometers away from Tiger Leaping Gorge, take the cable car directly to the Glacier Park to witness the magnificent sight of pristine white snow against the azure sky, or visit the mysterious Blue Moon Valley to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the highland lakes.

On the way back to Lijiang from Tiger Leaping Gorge, consider stopping at Shuhe Ancient Town. Stroll along the cobblestone streets, savor the ancient Naxi residences, and experience the peaceful slow life of bygone years.
③ Shangri-La

DesignDrivenDelights
Visit Tiger Leaping Gorge once, and experience one of the top ten most beautiful hiking trails in China as rated by National Geographic. This high-road hike takes you through the mountains, allowing you to take in the views of the snow-capped mountains, the Jinsha River, and the gorge all at once. The 'Cool to Death Balcony' and the 'Number One Toilet in the World' on the mountain will make you marvel at the natural wonders of nature!
1. Note:
① Purchase the bus ticket from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge one day in advance through the mini-program 'Lijiang Leisure Life'. There are several bus services that can reach the hiking point. The driver will help book the return bus on the way, which usually gathers at 15:00-15:30 at Teacher Zhang's Inn or Tina's Inn, returning to Lijiang (50 yuan) or Shangri-La (60 yuan).
② For the outbound trip, choose an earlier bus service (tickets are released around 8 am the day before), and it is recommended for hiking beginners to take the earliest bus service, as it takes about 2 hours from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge.
③ Equipment suggestions: 1-2 bottles of water (there are supply stations along the way), a change of clothes for the day, 1-2 trekking poles, hiking shoes with good grip, and wear sun protection in summer. You can also bring a thin windbreaker for wearing in the morning and evening. (Large luggage can be left on the bus, and the driver will help transport it to the end of the hike)
④ It is suggested to book the halfway inn in advance. If it's not available, you can consider staying at nearby places like Ban Shan Ju. Even if you don't stay at halfway, you can still check in at the 'Cool to Death Balcony' and the 'Number One Toilet in the World', and also have meals and coffee there.
2. Tiger Leaping Gorge ticket: The bus will stop at the entrance of the scenic area for everyone to get off and buy tickets. The driver will also help arrange a carpool to the more common hiking starting point, Naxi Yage Inn.
3. Route
👉Naxi Yage Inn - Twenty-Eight Bends - Mountain Top Viewing Platform (photo fee 10 yuan) - A Bowl of Ice Jelly - Tea Horse Inn - halfway inn (12km)

Why do I suggest you come to Tiger Leaping Gorge in winter?
👍Most recommended:
If you don't come to Tiger Leaping Gorge for a hike in winter, you're really confused🙇
Now the weather in Yunnan is stable and sunny,
the chance of seeing the sun shining on the mountain is very high🏔
🧳Preparation before departure:
Prepare climbing clothes~ climbing sticks
You can bring obedient and strong large dogs
It's best to contact the hiking team
The risk of hiking alone is greater than that of team hiking
And team cooperation, more comprehensive consideration
Weather, food and water supply, are the key points
❤Recommended reasons:
Hiking in winter is a good way to strengthen the body
The intensity can be controlled, but also has a certain challenge
If it's team cooperation,
it's also a good way to increase social opportunities and promote friendship
If you are moved, call your buddies to come together

Tiger Leaping Gorge trekking - you can do it!
We took a bus from Lijiang to Qiaotou, then transfer to another van that brought us to Naxi to start our trek. The 28-bend trek is not as treacherous as it is made to believe. go on a slow pace so you can breathe properly, take intermittent bit-size rests and you will be surprised you have completed the 28-bend segment! thereafter, it is relatively easy. just be vigilant along the way, don't stand too near the edge. we trekked 5 hours to Halfway Guest House to rest the night. then following morning, went to Tina and down the canyon to hear the roar of the Jingsha River. a fulfilling 2-day trek!#tigerleapinggorge

Sunset you will never forget
Drive from Lijiang about 90 mins by car and you will arrive at something truly wonderful. Sharp mountain tops, affordable Inns, hiking trails, horses and goats on the way...and much more if you are willing to have breath taken from you (what happens on 2400m). Best time is around sunset when mountain tops are golden. After that amazing stars and Milky way. Be aware if you travel by car to make sure it's 4x4 or you will have issues in narrow road bends. Lot of ppl and expats during holidays, warm and cozy vibe, food is delicious and organic. We traveled during Golden week, but it could be even better if it's winter time. #yak #urbanexplorer #nationalpark #gorgeousyunnan
