Cleansing Ritual in Bali : Melukat
#2024wish
Pura Tirta Empul
Address: Tampaksiring, Gianyar Regency, Bali 80552, Indonesia
A notable experience from my recent journey to Bali was participating in the traditional Balinese purification ritual known as Melukat.
Melukat is a traditional Balinese Hindu purification ritual performed by the Balinese people in Bali, Indonesia. The word "melukat" is derived from the Balinese word "lukat," which means to cleanse or to purify. This ritual is typically conducted to cleanse the body, mind, and soul from negative influences, impurities, or spiritual disturbances.
Located inside Tirta Empul temple, visitors need a ticket to enter. Before the procession, visitors need to pay another small fee to change their clothes into the locally designated clothes, and flower offerings.
Begin the procession by offering a prayer and making a wish. Initiating the procession is uncomplicated, with local guides available to assist you. Follow the designated path, commence the purification ritual, and express your wishes as you move from one shower to the next. Take note that certain showers are marked as non-functional, as indicated by a sign above them.
The water is exceptionally fresh, and its sensation differs significantly from ordinary water. It truly possesses a sacred quality. It's an incredibly remarkable and indelible experience.

Holy Springs of Tirta Empul
This is one of Bali’s Sacred Water Temple. It is a Balinese Hindu temple and very popular with the tourists too.
It is easy to do a one day trip, hire a local driver and he is also your guide for the day.
You will need to put on a sarong before entering the temple. It is of no charges but it is recommended to make a small donation in exchange.
Once you enter this temple, you will see many statues and shrines. They might looked a bit daunting but they are the guardians of the temple. Feel free to take photos and explore the temple. It will take about 45 minutes to an hour for this visit.
You will arrive at their main temple and there is a holy spring with many water sprouts around it. You are able to perform water cleansing in the holy spring. Just follow what the locals are doing and you are good to go.

There are a lot of people to choose from. There are a lot of routes to choose from. There are a lot of routes to choose from, such as diving, walking to the beach. All day, of course, you can go to the "bath" to spend an hour to make your wishes come true.
This holy temple in Bali is a very famous temple in the area. Because the temple is built on the underground spring, it is called the holy spring temple.
It is said that baptism in the Holy Spring can provide shelter and disease. There are two pools and 19 springs. The outlet of each spring represents a kind of god, so the spring water of each outlet has different mana and effects.
Every day there are a lot of locals and tourists coming here to visit, men, women and children will go down to the spring water, let the spring water "purify" themselves for more blessings. In the crowd, I even saw that the baby babay, who was only a few years old, was brought in and baptized.
Shengquan Temple is located in the north-central part of Bali. If you are coming from Ubud, it will take 40 minutes to drive. There are a lot of day trips on the Internet that can be booked, but the personal feeling is that it is more cost-effective to charter, and the time is relatively free. Special attention to
This is a popular attraction and it is still a temple, so you must follow the rules of the local temple. Usually there are fewer people in the morning or evening, and you can call at this time.
If you want to go down to the spring water, be sure to bring dry clothes in advance, or it will be more convenient to wear a swimsuit in advance. The spring is still quite cool, so be sure to take care not to catch a cold.
Girls need to wear a sarong in the temple. It is recommended to come over when there are fewer people. Because they have borrowed the sarong, they have to wait for the ~
Shengquan Temple exit to have shopping streets and hawkers. Bargaining, seeing the individual's ability.
Tickets
are tickets, if you remember correctly, it is 15,000 people, and the sarong does not need money.

Entering the Temple of the Holy Spring in Bali, both men and women need to wear a sarong... Hinduism believes that "the lower body of the person is not clean." You can put it on before you enter the door, and you can take it off after you leave the house. Whether it is men, women and children, or foreign friends can come to the holy spring temple, the water inside
can drink, of course, more people are to purify their own soul, I feel that the water of the holy spring temple can be devastated You can also purify your mind, but you must pray in advance before entering the water of the Holy Spring Temple, and then you can bathe in the water.
Kris Yang.
Tirta Empul Temple is over 1,000 years old. Because of its massive size, and its unique character in embodying various details from temples. As such it stood out from the “Island of a thousand temples”. What is most unique is the holy spring within the temple. This source has never once run dry over the past thousand years, and is still revered by the faithful today. Both male and female visitors must wrap themselves in sari upon arrival. No shorts or skirts are allowed. There are sari wraps, provided free at charge, at the service desk located at the entrance to the temple.
Apparently if you bathe in every single one of the sources here you can change your luck, however you must first know what each source means symbolically. Some can bring you financial luck, some can bring you a child, but there are also 2 sources whose water is specifically used to bathe the dead and you must not touch those.

Bali is not just about the sea, there's also the relaxing and healing Ubud!
Promise me, if you come to Bali, you must visit Ubud, otherwise, it's really a waste! Everything in Ubud is wonderful - jungles, waterfalls, terraces, volcanoes, hot springs, palaces, temples... Each place exudes a rich cultural and artistic atmosphere.
👉 If you come to Ubud, don't miss these places:
Ubud Palace
Free entry, a royal building with Balinese characteristics. It's relatively small, but it's worth spending a few minutes taking photos and browsing.
Ubud Market
Right opposite the palace, just cross the road. It's like a mini version of Yiwu Commodity Market. Remember to bargain when you buy things!
Tegallalang Rice Terraces
The filming location of Jay Chou's 'Rice Field' MV 🌾. All you see is green, terraces, the famous big swing, and bird's nest photo spots. You can basically cover everything in one go.
Tirta Empul Temple
An ancient temple with a thousand-year history. It's said that the holy spring here is always clear and has healing properties, so many people come here to bathe and cleanse their souls every day.
🚙【Transportation】
In the center of Ubud, it's recommended to travel by motorcycle. You can easily call a car using Grab or Gojek on your phone. For long distances, it's better to rent a car or choose a more flexible and comfortable small group tour. Avoid cheap large group tours, as you get what you pay for, and the experience can be very poor!
🥯【Food Recommendations】
Pison: It's popular for a reason! The fried rice and fries are both delicious.
Ibu Oka: Super famous roast suckling pig rice in Ubud, with crispy skin and tender meat, both fragrant and spicy!
Seniman Coffee: One of the top twelve coffees in Asia, recommended to try the local beans hand-brewed.
Sun Sun Warung: Typical Indonesian snacks, beautifully presented, and the green coconut roll is super tasty!

🇮🇩Blissful Bali🇮🇩
The Tirta Empul temple is dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu God of Water, and is considered one of the most holy temples in Bali. Pura Tirta Empul loosely translates to a holy temple with water gushing from the Earth.
Here we are at the main and final holy water fountain, we spent a little longer time here as this is the most powerful one – the actual Tirta Empul – the cleansing water the Temple is named after.
This completes the whole cleansing ritual.
We leave the pool with a respectful prayer, and well wishes to the temple, the gods of all the people’s beliefs there, and to whatever you believe in and your ancestors.
