Hong Kong | The real scenery of the Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains is presented on Tung Ping Chau
I was attracted by this hiking route early on, the aerial view of the Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains is truly stunning, and the hiking route is not very difficult, which really appeals to a hiking newbie like me. So, I joined a one-day tour group departing on the 32nd, while some other groups are two-day tours, requiring camping on the island for one day. There are few places to eat on the island, and they are expensive, with a sea urchin fried rice costing 188 Hong Kong dollars.
Going there and back in one day will naturally be tiring, but there is no need to carry too much equipment.
Itinerary: Gather at 7:30 am at the Liantang Port to cross the border, then take a bus to the Ma Liu Shui Pier to catch the 9:00 am ferry. The return ferry is around 5:00 pm, but if it's a holiday and there are more people, there is an additional ferry at 3:15 pm.
If taking the subway, get off at University Station and walk about 1 kilometer to the pier.
💰Cost: The round-trip ferry ticket is 100 Hong Kong dollars, payable by Octopus card or cash. Meals are self-catered.
🧳Supplies: Bring 2L of drinking water and sports drinks, dry food, snacks, clean clothes (for changing after sweating), tissues, trash bags, sunglasses, hats, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, cooling sleeves or sun protection clothing, etc.
‼️Notice: Check the weather before setting out, as the mountain roads can be muddy and slippery when it rains. The hot weather can easily cause heatstroke, so you may want to bring some herbal cooling water. Remember to keep your ferry ticket safe, as losing it means you'll have to buy a new full-price ticket.

I thought MacLehose Trail was already beautiful until I got to Tung Ping Chau
Tung Ping Chau, ranked as one of the 'Top Ten Scenic Sites' in Hong Kong, is not overly developed and is very beautiful with few people, making it very suitable for a day trip to the island. The scenery is superb! The glassy blue sea surface + the orange-brown triangular sedimentary rocks look like a landscape painting from a thousand miles away when photographed from the air! It's magical! Amazed by the craftsmanship of nature, in addition to the intricate and peculiar rock formations, there are various types of stone corals, seaweeds, and coral fish in between the rocks, resembling a rich and magical underwater world~

⚠️Recommended spots
1️⃣Cham Keng Chau (Marine Erosion Cliffs)
The rocks, separated due to erosion, look like they have been chopped off from a distance
2️⃣Geng Lou Stone (also due to erosion)
In front of 'Geng Lou Stone' is a cliff, formed by the long-term erosion of the sea on the south side. Over time, it has become a vertical cliff
3️⃣Nan Guo Shui
The area below the cliff is called 'Nan Guo Shui', which is a bit rugged and uneven, and occasionally washed by waves
4️⃣Sea Snail Cave
'Sea Snail Cave' can only be entered when the tide is low, and the scenery is very beautiful, but be aware of the tidal changes
Chow Mei Kok (Sedimentary rocks everywhere)
Walking along the pier towards Cheung Sha Wan, you can see the orange-brown triangular sedimentary rocks, which really look like a 'Thousand Mile Landscape Painting' from an aerial view

After the epidemic is over, I must go to Hong Kong and experience breathing different air 😂.
Tung Ping Chau is the fourth coastal park in Hong Kong⛲, with a rich variety of coral communities on the island, making it a diving paradise in Hong Kong. The shale here is also the youngest rock formation in Hong Kong, and the rich sedimentary rock structures and marine erosion landforms such as marine platforms and sea caves have become hotspots for outdoor tourism and geographical research.
On weekdays, there are no boats 🚢 on Dongpingzhou Island. Only on weekends and public holidays are there boats, and there are few trips. Therefore, this place is well protected. Walking around the island, you can see many sea urchins, crabs 🐚, and some natural sea salt in the seawater near the shore. Last Sunday, I visited the oldest rock formation in Hong Kong, the Devil's Fist Rock, and today I visited the youngest rock formation in Hong Kong. Personally, I think these rocks are particularly similar to the Devil's Washboard in Miyazaki Aoshima, Japan! Some geologists believe that 50 million years ago, Dongpingzhou Island was a calm marsh lake, and abundant sunlight and seawater 🌊 constantly eroded the surrounding mountains, and plant debris and sand and mud were washed into the marsh lake and deposited.
The main attractions of Dongping Island 🌟 are: Zhanjing Island, Cat Cave, Dragon Waterfall, Conch Cave, Difficult Water, and Geng Tower Stone. When you arrive at the pier, someone will hand out a map and you can follow it to explore slowly. However, Conch Cave and Difficult Water cannot be passed during high tide. I couldn't make it there today, which is a bit regretful 🌞, but it gives me a reason to come back again!
⚠️How to get there:
From Ma Liu Shui, take the ferry to go.
🚇Take the MTR East Rail Line to University Station Exit B, walk for 15 minutes to Ma Liu Shui Ferry Pier, and take a ferry to Tung Ping Chau, which takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Please pay attention to the ferry schedule when planning your trip.
🚢Ferry service: Departing from Ma Liu Shui on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: Saturday at 9am and 3:30pm, Sunday at 9am.
Dongpingzhou departure: Saturday and Sunday at 5:15 pm.
🎟️Boat ticket: $100 round trip
