[Malta] Here's the spectacular view from Valletta! Feel the history in the park😊
📍Upper Barrakka Garden
A must-visit spot for tourists in Valletta🌱
A public park in the city of Valletta built by the Knights of Malta in the 17th century🇸🇬
Of course, it's free🫶
Valletta is a fortified city built on high ground, but at the bottom of the park, there is a 500-year-old salute cannon, so you can feel the history of Valletta up close✨
Every day at noon and 4pm, blank shots are fired towards the harbor, which is impressive👍
It's a spot where you can do a quick tour in about 30 minutes, so I highly recommend it when you go to Valletta🫶

Malta: 3 days itinerary
#100WaysOfTravel #summerdestinations #seascapes
My three day Malta itinerary consisted of visiting many of the island’s top attractions. It brought me to beautiful cities, ancient historical relics, and dazzling natural attractions.
Day 1:
VALLETTA is Malta’s largest and most visually striking city. Deemed “a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen” upon its founding, Valletta is full of 16th-century elegance and grace.
Malta’s romantic and picturesque capital city is characterized by brightly colored balconies, narrow alleyways and domed cupolas.
Spend whole day exploring the cathedrals, forts and twisting streets of Valletta.
In that time, I visited the Co-Cathedral of St John, strolled through the Upper Barakka Gardens, and soaked in views of the city’s pictureque skyline from its waterfront.
Day 2:
The Three Cities of Malta offer an intriguing insight in the island’s history. Left largely unvisited, these fortified cities offer a glimpse into Malta’s maritime fortunes.
Mdina: The Silent City
The mysterious gold-stone city of Mdina sits smack in the middle of the country and affords breathtaking views of the island’s arid terrain from its fortified walls. Deemed Malta’s Silent City, Mdina is characterized by shaded alleyways, arched doorways exquisite balconies and the beautiful St Paul’s Cathedral that towers over the city’s maze of golden buildings.
Day 3:
Southern Malta.
Marxaslokk Fishing Village is a quaint and colorful fishing village characterized by its picturesque harbor. In the Marxaslokk Harbor, traditional boats bob up and down, creating a colorful contrast to the city’s golden buildings. These cheery boats are known locally as luzzus and are painted in bright, primary colors. Each boat is decorated with eyes that are said to protect the fishermen at sea.
Every Sunday, the whole population of Malta seems to flock to Marxaslokk to attend the fish market–a weekly affair featuring everything from swordfish to sea bream to rockfish to clams.
Then try St Peter’s Pool–a nearby swimming hole that is a favorite among locals.
Had my day trip to southern Malta gone flawlessly, my visit to the megalithic temples would have been followed by a stop at the Blue Grotto. Yet, a combination of poor planning and a winter reduction in visiting hours meant that I arrived at the site’s ticket booth shortly after it had closed. It was only 3:30pm, but the last boat ride to the caves had already left a few minutes prior.

Explore Malta and encounter a niche fairy tale wonderland
Strong Amway: Hurry to this niche fairy tale land before it becomes popular! ||Malta🇲🇹, located in the middle of the Mediterranean, is known as the "Heart of the Mediterranean🫀"! The climate here is extremely pleasant and the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. Although Malta is small in size, the people here are very welcoming and always have bright smiles on their faces. During your journey to this island, what you witness will definitely exceed your expectations!
📍Valletta
Valletta, the capital of Malta, is one of the smallest capitals in the world. In the streets and alleys of this ancient city, you can see magnificent Baroque buildings and military fortresses illuminated by the sun anytime and anywhere. The unique colorful floor-to-ceiling windows and smart color combinations on the streets will really make people feel like they are there. In the dreamy European fairy tale world.
🌟Special attractions:
-
1️⃣Saint John the Archdeacon Cathedral
This church is a major landmark in Valletta and can be seen almost from anywhere on the island. In addition to its rich and diverse collection of Baroque art and artifacts, the cathedral also features stunning Baroque murals, gorgeous marble floors, three-dimensional statues and beautifully carved stone walls.
❗️Tips: When entering the main church to visit, you are not allowed to wear tank tops, vests, etc., and in order to protect the marble floor, you are not allowed to wear high-heeled shoes that are too pointed.
-
2️⃣Upper Baraka Garden and Lower Baraka Garden
This garden terrace is one of the best landscapes in Malta. You can overlook the Mediterranean Sea from here🌊, and you can also have a panoramic view of the Three Sisters cities on the other side. Directly below the terrace and garden is the Salute Battery. There are gun salutes every day at 12 noon and 4 p.m. It’s really worth going to see!
📍Blue hole
The Blue Grotto has a huge arch and consists of six caves. The Blue Cave 🔵 is named because the light in the cave is refracted, forming a bright blue color on the sea. This naturally formed group of caves on the water is also a good place for diving.
📍Mdina
The city is full of medieval and Baroque architecture and is tentatively designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Even though there are many tourists in the city, it still seems peaceful and pleasant🧘♀️.
✨Tip: Mdina is also one of the filming locations for "Game of Thrones".
✨Featured attractions:
1️⃣St Paul’s Cathedral
You can see the altar in St. Paul's Cathedral. Although this cathedral does not look gorgeous, there is history and story behind every painting.

Valletta is the capital of Malta, and this city is full of historical atmospheres and beautiful architecture. In the recent trip to Malta, I really felt impressive of the buildings and street style. They all look spectacular and unique. The buildings with yellow brown colour made the city become more attractive. Moreover, the ocean is really beautiful and surrounding to the city. One of the attractions in Valletta is Upper Barrakka, which is the viewpoint you can see the three cities in Malta. There is also a giant fountain inside the garden.

Upper Barrakka Gardens: A famous landmark in Valletta, overlooking the grand harbor and the 'Three Sisters City'
I am a sea-viewing and wave-listening tour + global traveler, please follow me!
(Published the 1634th travel shot in 56 countries/regions in 5 continents and 1004 cities)
Malta is a true island, and you can see the sea in the center of the island.
There are many extraordinary landscapes here, but the best one is probably the Barrakka Gardens, located in the center of the capital Valletta, divided into Upper Barrakka Gardens and Lower Barrakka Gardens.
The Lower Barrakka Gardens mainly consist of Roman-style marble temples. The famous Upper Barrakka Gardens are located above the grand harbor, with a free elevator connecting the two places. The Upper Barrakka Gardens are an excellent place to view the grand harbor and the opposite 'Three Sisters Castle'.
On the fortress area below the Upper Barrakka Gardens, there is a row of 11 ancient cannons. Today, there is still a performance of firing ancient cannons at exactly 12 noon every day, which is worth seeing.

Best Viewpoint in Malta - Upper Barrakka Gardens
Located at the southeast corner of the main island of Malta, the Upper Barrakka Gardens, also known as the Italian Lookout, is the best viewpoint in Valletta, the capital of Malta, and a must-visit place for every tourist visiting Malta.
❤️Recommended reasons
🔶The Barrakka Gardens are divided into upper and lower parts. If time is limited, you can only come to the upper garden, where the excellent location and breathtaking views will definitely not disappoint you. Especially the tall arches and huge arched windows in the garden, full of momentum, make people can't stop the camera shutter.
🔶This place was originally the private garden of the Italian knights and was also part of the Valletta defense fortifications. The garden is filled with marble slabs recording the history of Malta, as well as statues and sculptures commemorating some great people, such as Einstein and Churchill. The Lower Barrakka Garden is mainly a Roman-style marble temple.
🔶In the Upper Barrakka Garden, you can have a panoramic view of the Three Sisters City across the harbor: Vittoriosa, Cospicua, and Senglea. You can also overlook the long coastline and historical buildings along the southeast coast of Valletta, as well as the entire Malta port. The azure Mediterranean Sea makes this beautiful scenery look like a painting.
After enjoying the scenery, you can spend one euro to take the elevator directly to the coast at the foot of the mountain and take a boat directly to the Three Sisters City on the opposite side.
📸Shooting Tips
1️⃣There are always many tourists here, if you want to shoot the garden and arches with fewer people, try to get up early or before sunset.
2️⃣This is a great place to shoot the sunset.
3️⃣Telephoto and wide-angle lenses are useful here. The telephoto lens can pull to the Three Sisters City on the opposite side, and the wide-angle lens can shoot arches, etc.
4️⃣It is recommended to wear brightly colored clothes, which can contrast sharply with the yellow buildings and the color of the sea.
🎫Tickets: Free
🚗Transportation:
- Valletta is mostly uphill and downhill. It is recommended to directly locate the Upper Barrakka Gardens and take a taxi.
- If you drive by yourself, there is a parking lot next to the garden, and the parking space is tight during the peak season.
- It takes about ten minutes to walk from the main gate of Valletta.
