What does the world's smallest capital city look like?
The capital, Victoria, the smallest capital in the world, is home to a third of the population of Seychelles. The architecture here is filled with European charm, and the iconic building in the center of Victoria is the Victoria Clock Tower. This clock tower, which witnessed the colonial history of Seychelles, is less than 10 meters tall and was gifted by the British in 1903 (the year Seychelles became a British colony), and is also known as the 'Little Big Ben'.
⛪️ Just around the corner from the city center, you can see the Anglican Church, backed by mountains, with the church shrouded in mist after the rain, looking very ethereal. The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victoria is also a famous landmark of the city, not far away, just a few minutes' walk.
🥬 Stroll around the market to get a feel for the local life. Vegetables, fruits, seafood, flowers, spices, and groceries are all available for purchase. Here you can also see the national treasure of Seychelles, the very uniquely shaped coco de mer.
The locals are very simple and not overly enthusiastic, nor do they mind having their photos taken; some parents of little girls even indicated that I could take pictures of their children. Grateful for this sincere encounter❤️
