Explore Wakayama Castle: A Dreamy Journey Through History and Cherry Blossoms
Wakayama Castle, located in the city of Wakayama, Japan, boasts a rich history and captivating scenery. Built in the 16th century, the castle was not only a symbol of power at the time but also a stage for numerous historical events. Although the main structure was destroyed during World War II, it was rebuilt in 1958. Today, Wakayama Castle retains its former glory, attracting countless visitors to explore its grounds.
From March to April each year, Wakayama Castle becomes an ideal spot for springtime cherry blossom viewing. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the entire castle area is enveloped in a sea of pink flowers. Whether you're taking photos or simply enjoying the view, it's an unparalleled experience. Every corner here is filled with photographic inspiration, making it a perfect backdrop for both professional photographers and amateurs alike to capture unforgettable moments.
However, visitors should be aware that mosquitoes around Wakayama Castle might affect your experience. It's advisable to bring mosquito repellent to ensure a worry-free visit. This way, you can fully enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Additionally, the castle's O-hashi Roka (Great Bridge Corridor) is also worth a visit. This historic corridor connects the castle to surrounding facilities and was built to allow the feudal lord and his retinue to travel between the Ninomaru (the administrative and residential area) and Nishinomaru (Momijidani Garden). Visitors are required to remove their shoes when entering to maintain its original appearance and cleanliness. This setup not only brings you closer to nature but also allows you to experience traditional Japanese culture more deeply.
In conclusion, Wakayama Castle is not only a witness to history but also a fusion of nature and culture. Whether you're a history enthusiast or a cherry blossom viewer, you'll find your own joy and inspiration here. It's definitely a travel destination not to be missed!

Visiting the Wakayama Castle
#2023travelwish
One of the attractions to visit in Wakayama Prefecture in southern Japan is the Wakayama Castle. It sits on a hill overlooking almost the entire Wakayama City.
Before you reached the castle, you will pass by a beautiful garden and a bridge in a lake. Entrace fee to the castle is 400 yen.
My travel wish for next year is to explore northern side of Japan which is from Tokyo up to the cold area of Hokkaido. 😍

After visiting the Wakayama Castle which holds its guarded grandeur and famed ninja tales; we decided to explore its surroundings. We found beauty and elegance in a surprisingly quiet corner of the castle: Nishinomaru Teien Gardens (also known as Momijidani Teien). Not many tourists come down to this corner. During visit we met a japanese person told us that this garden brings peace and serenity. This elderly gentleman let us in on the secrets of this Garden as he lifted a big heavy camera with one hand to show us photos of rare birds who visit this charming garden too. We were in awe of the many different birds and creatures hidden but captured in photos which he graciously shared with us. We are glad we ventured beyond the main Castle and soaked in the tranquility of this garden.

A Journey Through History and Seasonal Beauty: The Timeless Charm of Wakayama Castle
Wakayama Castle, with its long history and stunning seasonal scenery, stands as one of the most iconic ancient castles in Wakayama Prefecture. This visit to Wakayama Castle allowed me to deeply appreciate the unique charm of the perfect blend of ancient architecture and natural landscapes. As you step inside the castle, the towering stone walls and surrounding moat exude the strength and majesty of the Sengoku period, inspiring a deep respect for this ancient fortress.
From the top of Wakayama Castle's main keep, you can overlook the entire city of Wakayama and the distant sea, offering an excellent view. Especially in spring, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the castle's ancient stone walls are beautifully complemented by the blooming cherry trees, making you feel as if you are in a poetic painting. In autumn, the castle is enveloped in warm red hues from the autumn leaves, presenting a completely different scenery and atmosphere.
Strolling through Wakayama Castle, you can feel the profound sense of history and the serene beauty of nature. Whether it's the ancient walls, the grand main keep, or the ever-changing seasonal scenery, everything here makes you reluctant to leave. Wakayama|Must-Visit Local Landmark
Wakayama Castle is a symbol of Wakayama City. During the Sengoku period, Toyotomi Hidenaga, the younger brother of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, pacified the Kishu region and was granted the territory. Under Hideyoshi's orders, Wakayama Castle was constructed in 1585. It was later destroyed by American bombing during World War II and was rebuilt in 1958. Wakayama Castle, along with Himeji Castle in Hyogo and Matsuyama Castle in Ehime, is known as one of Japan's three major flatland-mountain castles. Wakayama Castle is also a famous spot for viewing cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. From the castle keep, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Wakayama City. The castle park also features 'Reception Ninjas' who support tourism. These ninjas serve as guides and translators, help take commemorative photos, and assist those with mobility issues in climbing the castle tower. When visiting Wakayama, be sure to stop by and explore.
