No wonder, this temple is one of the most significant Buddhist sites in Sichuan Province Wenshu Monastery has a history of over 1,000 years, dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD), this temple is dedicated to Wenshu (Manjushri), the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. During the Qing Dynasty, This monastery gained prominence when a Buddhist monk named Cidu meditated and was believed to have transformed into Wenshu after his death. The monastery's traditional Chinese architecture is stunning, with intricately designed halls, towers, and pavilions surrounded by lush gardens, and The Great Buddha Hall and the Hall of Wenshu are among the highlights, housing impressive Buddhist statues and relics. The monastery houses over 500 statues, including Buddhist deities, historical figures, and mythical creatures. It preserves rare Buddhist texts, sutras, and calligraphy by notable scholars and monks. Despite being located in the bustling city of Chengdu, Wenshu Monastery offers a tranquil retreat. Visitors can meditate, light incense, or simply enjoy the serene surroundings. After exploring the entire monastery, before I left this temple, I took a rest in one of their tea houses, and enjoyed Chengdu's famous tea culture while relaxing in the peaceful setting of Wenshu's monastery garden. I also had my lunch in the vegetarian restaurant owned by the monastery, which serves traditional Buddhist dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. When you come to Chengdu for a covered-bowl tea, don't just know to go to People's Park. Today, I'm sharing a guide to tea drinking at Wenshu Monastery. After touring Wenshu Monastery, exit from the back door, and the red wall next to it is great for taking photos and checking in. Walk about 50 meters to reach Xiangyuan 1⃣️ At Xiangyuan, the covered-bowl tea ordered upon entering can only be enjoyed while sitting on bamboo chairs in the courtyard, starting at 15 yuan per cup. 2⃣️ Chenlu: A separate small courtyard with a better environment. Outdoor tea drinking starts at 38 yuan, indoor at 68 yuan, and the vegetarian set meal is 78 yuan. 3⃣️ Exiting Chenlu, you can order tea in the compartment on the right: starting at 48 yuan, with seating available indoors and in the corridor. Mushroom rice is also ordered here, at 18 yuan per serving, with ordering starting at 11:30. If you want to eat, you should come early; by the time I arrived in the afternoon around three or four, it was already sold out. 4⃣️ Xinxian: You can have a vegetarian buffet for 35 yuan per person. Recently, the buffet is only available at noon, not in the evening! This ancient temple was first built in the third year of the Ming Dynasty, with a history of over 600 years, having experienced decay and reconstruction. The yellow walls and grey tiles, the green trees, and the thriving incense give a sense of transcendence hidden in the city. Baiyun Temple is located on Muma Mountain, facing the Willow River, with a scenery comparable to Wenshu Monastery. Here, there is a 9.9-meter-high golden statue of Amitabha Buddha and a 7-meter bronze statue of Guanyin with a clean bottle, solemn and majestic. In the temple, you can pray for peace, marriage, wealth, and health. There is also a vegetarian hall in the temple, 10 yuan/person, mealtime at 11:30. The most beautiful time I spent in the ginkgo was when I visited the Wenshu Monastery in Chengdu. When the wind blew through, the scenery was colourful and the ground seemed to be covered in gold. I wished that time would go slower so that I could enjoy the beautiful scenery for longer. Wenshu Monastery is the first of the four major forests in the upper and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China. The existing buildings are typical of the ancient style of the western Sichuan Plain. The all-wooden building and the six main halls are on the central axis of the mountain gate. It is magnificent. There is a treasure in the temple. You will get the chance to see the relic of Buddha and Master Xuan Zang’s top bone.

Take the subway to Wenshu Monastery Station, and after exiting the station, you will see the Wenshufang Archway on the roadside after a few steps. Wenshufang is the name of this historical and cultural block, named after the Wenshu Monastery hidden within it. Opposite the Hall of Heavenly Kings is a screen wall with a yellow wall body and red palace walls on both sides. The ginkgo trees in front of the screen wall are golden, and although the sky is a bit gloomy, this place is warm. Walk into the Hall of Heavenly Kings, and opposite is the Hall of Three Saints, also known as the Guanyin Hall, built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. The hall enshrines the statues of Guanyin, Manjushri, and Samantabhadra, symbolizing compassion, wisdom, and action. The hall also enshrines Wenchang and Guan Sheng Emperor, set up during the Tongzhi period, making it rare for Buddhism and Taoism to coexist in one hall. On the left and right sides are the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, with plaques reading "Golden Bell" and "Dharma Drum," which are also somewhat unique. There are two ginkgo trees in the courtyard, and the fallen ginkgo leaves attract tourists to stop and capture beautiful moments. Behind the Hall of Three Saints is the Mahavira Hall, with a plaque reading "Namo Shakyamuni Buddha" above the door lintel. Wenshu Monastery was built during the Sui Dynasty and was initially named Xinxiang. It was destroyed by war at the end of the Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in the 36th year of the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (1697). It was renamed Wenshu Monastery because of the frequent appearance of firelight in the sky at night, which was traced to the place where the monk Cidu practiced, and it was said to be the manifestation of Manjushri Bodhisattva. Wenshu Pavilion has three floors: the first floor is the Konglin Lecture Hall, the second floor is the Konglin Buddhist Library, and the third floor is the Wenshu Hall. Wenshu Pavilion and Wenshu Monastery are separated by a wall and are not directly connected, so you need to go around the small road on the east side of the monastery, which is easy to overlook.
