Visit Wuzhen and heed the advice of the locals
If you only want to visit one ancient town, then I recommend Wuzhen🥲. Here is a worry-free guide that doesn't involve retracing your steps, be sure to save it~
🚗Transportation advice: Friends nearby can choose to drive or take a bus, with departures from Hangzhou West Lake or Shanghai, costing only a few dozen per person, saving more time💯.
✅Tongxiang travel: You can check the bus schedule, there are also buses at night~ Remember to apply for the Tongxiang ride code in advance👌.
⚠Avoid pitfalls guide: You must take this part seriously❗
1⃣During the winter vacation, Xizha has many performances🎶, such as night lantern festivals, water markets, lantern boat parades, and lantern bridge walks for blessings, which will continue until 2.25. The schedule of the programs has been organized for you👇right below.
2⃣For a visit to Wuzhen, Xizha is highly recommended for its large area, beautiful scenery, and self-operated shops without excluding tourists from other places. It's also great for photography📸; Dongzha is good for buying local products; South and North Zha are basically undeveloped, so don't go to the wrong place🙅.
3⃣Make sure your navigation is set to "Wuzhen Xizha No. 1 Visitor Center"🚩. Rickshaws and guesthouses at the entrance of the scenic area are mostly unreliable, leading you to designated shops for consumption, ignore them🙅! The visitor center is also the entrance to the scenic area, remember to keep your eyes peeled before entering👀.
4⃣There are many Hanfu and cheongsam shops at the entrance of the scenic area🎀. If you want to take photos, do your makeup before entering the scenic area, as the clothing stores inside charge 2-3 times more~ Choose thick Hanfu with velvet👘.
5⃣When choosing accommodation, be sure to consider the distance from the visitor center🚶. Many so-called "scenic area guesthouses" are actually far from the main gate🚫, and you may have to go around to get there. Ask the owner directly how far it is from the Xizha visitor center!
6⃣There are tour buses in the scenic area, take a ride when tired, 10 yuan per trip🚎. Ask the driver to drop you off at less crowded attractions for a better off-peak experience🤩~
7⃣If staying in the scenic area, remember to go to the "Water Market" for morning tea🍵, which ends at 9 am, and all seats are available. Go early to get a good indoor window seat with a beautiful view🤳. After 9 am when the scenic area opens, it gets crowded, which can affect the visiting experience😣.
8⃣The south bank of the Xizha canal is also great to explore, don't just crowd on the north bank👯~ The south bank's Nü Hong Street to General Wu area has a wide view and is more suitable for photography📷.
🗺Tour route: Wuzhen Theatre➡Mu Xin Art Museum (closed on Mondays)➡Caomu Natural Dyeing Workshop➡Shuishi Kou Market➡Jia Zuo Bookstore➡Ding Sheng Bridge➡Zhao Ming Academy➡Wuzhen Post Office➡Guo Yue Theatre➡General Wu Temple➡Water Theatre➡Qiao Li Qiao➡Bai Lian Pagoda➡Yue Lao Temple➡Dragon Dance Flower Field.
Did you get this guide😁? Bring your family and friends to Wuzhen and experience the charm of the Jiangnan water towns~

The ancient town rated as the most beautiful in China by National Geographic is stunningly amazing!
Wuzhen, located in Tongxiang City, Jiaxing, Zhejiang, is divided into Dongzha, Xizha, Nanzha, and Beizha by the cross-shaped inland river system. With a civilization history of over 7000 years and a town-building history of 1300 years, it perfectly preserves the appearance and pattern of the ancient water town in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, known as the 'land of fish and rice, and the mansion of silk'.
The southern water town is gentle and moving, and Wuzhen is definitely the best among them. With white walls and grey tiles, bluestone roads, half of the town is mundane, and the other half is poetic.
Mu Xin described Wuzhen in this haiku: Jiangnan is green/ the stone steps are also green/ it always seems like it just rained. The exquisite sunlight that has not been seen for a long time falls on the green brick ground through the fine wood carving lattices...
Take advantage of the good times, always go to Jiangnan, always go to Wuzhen.
Take a rowing boat through the water town, stroll in the small alleys with green tiles and white walls, and feel the charm of the ancient town for thousands of years.

Wuzhen Travel Guide with Kids: How to Choose Between Xizha and Dongzha
Summer Vacation Second Stop: Wuzhen
🚗Transportation: Take the direct scenic bus from Hangzhou West Lake to Wuzhen Xizha (about 2 hours drive)
🏠Accommodation: Homestay in Dongzha Scenic Area
You can enter Dongzha for free after 9:30 PM and continue to explore the next morning, saving the Dongzha ticket fee. Dongzha accommodation is more cost-effective, and you can stay in a waterside homestay at a lower price.
Most homestays offer free pick-up and drop-off services and luggage storage.
✅Itinerary:
Xizha
Arrive at Wuzhen Xizha Scenic Area at 1 PM. The homestay owner will help us transport our luggage to Dongzha, then we start exploring Xizha. We had lunch in the Xizha Scenic Area, but there are also many dining options outside the area.
❗️❗️There are many cold drink and dessert shops inside. During the hot midday, you can take a break inside to cool off. There are also many shaded areas where you can sit and rest.
About the boat ride: Shared boat costs 60 RMB/person for 25 minutes. Worried about the crowd in the evening, we took the boat at 5 PM without queuing.
We had dinner in the Xizha Scenic Area. From 5 to 6 PM, the number of people noticeably increased. It is recommended to take a photo of the beautiful night view and leave, avoiding crowded areas. You can still find less crowded but photogenic spots inside!
The night view is not as stunning as imagined, but the photos turn out great, especially around 7 PM when the lights just come on, and the sky is not completely dark yet. The blue hour photos are beautiful.
At 8:30 PM, we slowly exited the scenic area to Dongzha. The homestay owner arranged a car to pick us up. At 9:25 PM, we entered the Dongzha Scenic Area.
Dongzha
The next morning, you can experience the serene Jiangnan water town without the crowds. Except for a few paid museums, you can wander freely. Dongzha is quieter than Xizha, with many original residents, giving it a lively atmosphere. Daytime photos are beautiful, and I think it's worth a visit.
🌟Summary:
1️⃣If you visit Wuzhen, choose to explore Xizha in the afternoon, stay overnight in Dongzha, and explore Dongzha for free the next morning. This is the most cost-effective way to visit. Dongzha is one to two times smaller than Xizha, and an hour or so is enough to explore.
2️⃣Although Wuzhen is commercialized, the ancient town is well-planned and managed. The streets are uniform, and the shops are not cluttered, giving a pleasant impression. Plus, it's really beautiful. If you choose to visit an ancient town in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Wuzhen is a good choice!
3️⃣If you have kids, bring some fish food or bread to feed the fish along the way. Kids won't get bored (there's a place in the water market where you can buy fish food for 10 RMB a bag).
Finally, I hope everyone has a great holiday. Pay attention to heat prevention. Good scenery doesn't always mean crowded places. In Jiangnan water towns like this, every shot is a masterpiece.
After all, since you're here, keeping a good mood is the most important thing‼️ Wishing everyone a pleasant and smooth journey!

Wuzhen Travel | East→West→South Shat It's just enough to finish the tour in one day
| East→West→South Shat It's just enough to finish the tour in one day. Wuzhen Travel | East→West→South Shat It's just enough to finish the tour in one day.
Actually, it took a little more than a day to finish the tour, but if planned this way, one day is enough
South Shat (free admission) Go to South Shat first, South Shat is not big
Inside it's more residential, and the prices are very low compared to East and West Shat, it's not so commercialized
But some corners are rather simple and not so well-developed, however, experiencing the living environment of the local people and strolling on the old streets of Wuzhen is quite interesting~
It takes about two hours to finish the tour
East Shat (110 RMB per person, joint ticket for East and West Shat 190 RMB)
If you have bought the joint ticket for East and West Shat, it is recommended to go to East Shat first because they stop checking tickets at six in the afternoon here to not disturb the residents' rest, haha!! Don't run for nothing
West Shat (150 RMB per person, joint ticket for East and West Shat 190 RMB)
The night tour of Wuzhen X is all in West Shat!
Get there around three or four in the afternoon
Divide your time half for Wuzhen during the day and half for the night
Firstly, not long after entering, there is a Mu Xin Art Museum
If you haven't heard of Mu Xin, then you must know this poem “
The days of the past have become slow, carriages, horses, and mails are all slow, one's whole life is just enough to love one person.
”
Interested sisters can buy a ticket from the entrance for 20 RMB per person
Pay attention to the exhibition time in the museum until 17:30~
The most stunning is still the night of West Shat
Even when the sky just starts to darken and the lights just start to come on, the atmosphere begins to rise
Feeding fish, drinking tea, listening to music, sitting on a Wupeng boat
Strolling through the market, making hand-painted lacquer fans
It's really, really, really comfortable
And then there's the fact that this time I stayed at a life homestay! With its own courtyard, the landlord even put a basketball hoop in the yard, playing basketball during the day and having barbecue and draft beer at night
The community environment is also very good, whether staying with friends or bringing children, it's very nice~ Once you move in, you don't want to go out, and the price is also very beautiful!!

Travelogue of Jiaxing (Wuzhen East Gate)
Introduction to the scenic area: Since its establishment in the year 872, the name of Wuzhen, its location, water system, and way of life have remained unchanged. Traditional buildings, despite centuries of weathering, are still well-preserved. Wuzhen has always had four main streets: east, south, west, and north, which also divide the town into four areas. Due to the extensive water network, in old times, to prevent attacks from water bandits, gates that could be opened and closed were set up on the main waterways leading to the town, hence the names East Gate, South Gate, West Gate, and North Gate. The common people didn't talk much about planning and construction; they simply adapted to the environment with simple survival ideas, gradually developing into relatively independent yet interdependent settlements. Without deliberate arrangement, the style naturally formed with some irregularities, and East Gate and West Gate are two such distinct yet similar districts. As the ancient town with the largest protected area in China, Wuzhen's profound cultural heritage displays the infinite charm of ancient Eastern civilization. Over 400,000 square meters of exquisite Ming and Qing architecture; nearly 20,000 meters of crisscrossing waterways; a thousand years of historical culture; the simple and beautiful scenery of the water town; uniquely flavored delicacies; colorful folk festivals... The wisdom of heritage, accompanied by a profound literary atmosphere, unfolds a captivating historical scroll in Wuzhen. East Gate and West Gate are the two most beautiful scenic lines of Wuzhen.
East Gate is the first phase of the ancient town's protection and tourism development project, officially opened to the public in 2001. The water town's ambiance is intact, with a strong sense of daily life, and the workshops and traditional shops each have their own characteristics, with a dazzling array of special exhibition halls. While enjoying the authentic scenery of the water town, tourists can also indulge in the pleasures of travel shopping and gourmet food. Compared to West Gate, East Gate is smaller and more exquisite, suitable for busy tourists to take a day or two to experience the charm of the ancient water town.

os: The most expensive ticket for an ancient town I've ever bought
⛽️Attractions
1. Mu Xin Art Museum: An additional charge of 20 per person, we didn't go as we know we lack artistic cells, but those who are interested and have time can visit.
2. Plant Dyeing Workshop: There are half-hour performances at 14:00 and 15:00, and it's very crowded for photos, hard to get a good shot
3. Boat Ride: You have to take a rowing boat at least once, it's very worthwhile, enjoying the beauty of the Jiangnan water town on the boat~60 per person, shared boat for 8 people, boat leaves when full. Private boat 480💰. We took the full route from the innermost part to the outside, just in time for the evening sunset, a gentle breeze, very pleasant🍃
4. Food: (Can't really call it gourmet haha) We had some snacks in the scenic area, not particularly distinctive or delicious, but with the 'filter' of being in the scenic area, not recommended if the queue is too long. (Dingsheng cake, scallion stuffed bun, pickled vegetable cake)
5. Parking🅿️: About 5 hours from entry to exit, parking fee 10💰
It's recommended to go in the afternoon, finish the tour and take the boat out just in time for sunset, stroll through the alleys of Xizha again before leaving, and take one last look at the night view of Wuzhen🌃
Many beautiful ladies dressed in cheongsams and new Chinese-style hairpins, very beautiful and fitting~
Will come again!! Want to experience the quiet water town at 7 in the morning, be an early morning tea guest🍵

Impressions of Dongzha: A Journey through the Time-Honored Water Towns of Jiangnan
In a corner of southeastern China, there hides a water town that seems to have stepped right out of an ancient painting—Dongzha. Here, time strolls gently over the cobblestone paths, each alley harboring endless stories, each ancient bridge a link between past and present. Dongzha, as a part of Wuzhen, with its uncarved natural beauty and profound cultural heritage, has become an unforgettable haven in the hearts of travelers.

Watch the cloth fluttering in the wind, feel the charm of traditional handicrafts, and perhaps try your hand at the fun of printing and dyeing, taking home a unique piece of indigo fabric as a memory of your journey.

Wuzhen 3-day 2-night luxury tour, the cost is not as high as imagined!
Wuzhen in Zhejiang is not only the most representative water town in the south of the Yangtze River, but also a window for our country's external publicity. The World Internet Conference Forum is located here, which has made it famous throughout the south and north of the river. With the rapid increase in the flow of people, the various prices in Wuzhen have also risen. So, is a 3-day 2-night luxury tour expensive? As long as it's well planned, the cost is not as high as imagined.
1. Ticket cost: A combined ticket for East Gate and West Gate is 199 yuan, Wucun scenic area is 100 yuan, and rowing boat in West Gate is 600 yuan, totaling 899 yuan.
2. Accommodation cost: Staying for two consecutive nights in the top hotel in West Gate, the room rate is 2700 yuan per night (including breakfast for two), totaling 5400 yuan for two nights.
3. Dining cost: The dining expenses in the West Gate scenic area are relatively high, but you can dine outside the scenic area, and you need to apply for multiple entries with your ticket. However, for convenience, I dined within the West Gate scenic area, and I don't mind the higher prices. The average consumption per person is 180 yuan, which is 360 yuan for 2 meals a day, and 1080 yuan for 3 days.
4. Transportation cost: Taxi from Tongxiang high-speed railway station to West Gate scenic area is 110 yuan, and the return trip from West Gate scenic area to Tongxiang high-speed railway station is 100 yuan, totaling 210 yuan.
All of the above are luxury expenses. For ordinary sightseeing, the cost is less than 1000 yuan. Next time, I will come to experience ordinary sightseeing again and share the travel expenses with everyone once more.
The total budget for this 3-day 2-night Wuzhen luxury tour is 899 yuan + 5400 yuan + 1080 yuan + 210 yuan = 7589 yuan.

Its already late in the evening because its getting dark in Wuzhen. So I had to go to Dongzha for the next day and then I didnt think that the Dongzha Park was not big. It took only 80 minutes to take a photo with the camera. So I went to the East Gate at 9:00 in the morning, then went back to dinner at noon, and went to Xizha in the afternoon. Wuzhen Laojie Water Village looks very good, and there is almost no difference between it and Dongzha Scenic Area. However, Dongzha has some important historical museums and celebrity memorials, such as the former residence of Mao Dun, Wuzhen Silk Factory, etc. . The Dongzha scenic spot is not large. It is an ancient dwelling built around this Hedong and Hexi. Its historicity and charm have quite a taste of ancient charm. The museum of the silk factory in the Wuzha East Gate Scenic Area, the whole building adopts the principle of the heavenly place of the basic theory of Chinese traditional Feng Shui. The roof is square, and this structure has the combined effect of blocking helium, increasing luck and regulating indoor lighting. This is the dyeing workshop next to the museum. It is said that the dyeing process here can be traced back to the Han and Tang Dynasties. After some social changes and the change of merchants, the dyeing technology of the world can only inherit a small part. It can only be visited as a museum of history here. From the other side of the river, you can go out, and the entire east gate of Wuzhen is over. After going out, there seems to be some scenic spots and attractions. It is worth seeing a thousand-year Taoist temple on Wuzhen Old Street. Wuzhen East Gate is relatively small, and it is the most humane place in Wuzhen Water Town. It is recommended to buy Dongzha and Xizha coupons when you play Wuzhen. Although the East Gate is relatively small, the historical charm is very good.

Wuzhen has come many times, but every time I go to Wuzhen Xizha, I always feel that Xizha already has all the waters in my dreams. I am afraid that I will be bored when I look at it. This time I came to Wuzhen. Because I lived in Yunbei, it took only a few minutes to walk to Dongzha. I couldnt help but have a good morning with my friends. I want to see what kind of watertown style Dongjiangs Jiangnan is?
Its almost at half past seven, and its not too early, but its just a good feeling. Jiangnan Water Town, the most beautiful time of the day is early morning and evening. In the early morning, there will be a thin mist on the river, like a dream. The spring breeze in April is filled with drizzle, refreshing and comfortable.
There is a pavilion on the river in front of the Lizhi Academy. Between the academy and the pavilion, there is only a gap between the front and the front. When the old scholars went to Wenchang Pavilion, they usually accompanied the next person to take a boat. The boat was parked on the edge of your river, and the scholars went upstairs. The next person sat on the benches on both sides of the aisle, which was very interesting.
I have to say that this is different from the imaginary East Gate. Imagine that it should be similar to the West Gate, but it is less than the West Gate than the tourists, but I didnt expect it to be so green and so natural. Such a full of life style.

Wuzhen, which has a history of more than 2,000 years, is divided into east, south, west and north gates. The only scenic spots currently developed are Dongzha and Xizha. Dongzha is the earliest open. Unlike the bustling Xizha, Dongzha maintains an original style of ancient towns. It is simple and quiet. The quaint houses are spread along the river bank. There are also many locals living there, more than Xizha. Have a breath of life. In the east gate of Wuzhen, there is a feeling of transcendentality in the world. The ease and simplicity seems to be only found back in the millennium. The search for Dongzha seems to be a game of time tunneling, the bridge, the water, the little one. The awning boat and its unique atmosphere are all forgotten, and strolling in it seems to have returned to the old and long Jiangnan.

The Jinjia of Dongzha was once a rich man here, and today their residence has made a record of life in Jiangnan. Here, folks such as Shouqing etiquette, marriage and childbirth customs, and time-saving festivals in Wuzhen, from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, were displayed. The wonderful wax figure creates a drama of wedding and funeral, and it is filled with the expectation of a better life. The clothing department displays the folk customs of Jiangnan more than a hundred years ago by means of physical objects, wax figures, photos, etc., and can peek into the epitome of history from the style of Chinese and Western styles.
The Department of Customs has different living customs in Wuzhen people in different festivals such as the Spring Festival, New Year's Eve, Lantern Festival, Qingmingxiang City, Lixia Scale People, Dragon Boat Festival, Water Dragon Conference, Tianzhu Sunworm, Zhongyuan River The lights, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Chongyang ascend, the winter solstice worship, and so on, vividly displayed a long scroll of the Jiangnan water town. The wedding hall is centered on the Happiness Hall, and shows the lively scenes of the wedding through new people, matchmakers, parents and other objects as well as sedan and dowry. With the theme of the birthday of the elderly, the Shou Customs Hall displays the Chinese tradition of respecting the elderly and respecting the old through the unique Ji Shou and the calligraphy and calligraphy, Shouyi, Shoutao and Shoufu.

Wuzhen Dongzha is not as dark as Xizha, but it is more of a humanistic heritage. If there is a former residence of Mao Dun, the former residence of Mu Xin. If you like to read Mao Dun literature or Mu Xin's article, then Dongzha must come and go. The authentic water town style and profound cultural connotation are the most charming places in Dongzha, and the living conditions here are still simple. The Jiangnan fireworks of the pillows are a rare time for the 5A scenic spot to survive.
Sitting on a awning boat, swaying gently on the river, the scenery on both sides is infinitely beautiful. Here you can also see the shadow play, see how the blue print dye house is made into a euphemistic Jiangnan flower cloth. Of course, there are also flower drums, boat punches, and high-pitched performances.

Wuzhen is divided into two scenic spots, Dongzha and Xizha. Compared with Xizha, there are some indigenous residents living in the scenic area in Dongzha. Most of the left-behind people are old people, and they are relatively simple. The quaint houses are spread along the river bank. What is different is that some of the houses along the river extend to the river surface. The wooden piles or stone pillars are used to hit the riverbed. The beams are placed on the shelves and the wooden boards are placed on the trees. This is called Wushui. Unique style.
