Ancient Secrets (Yangshuo)
Ancient towns always make me feel like the walls are carrying thousand-year-old secrets and if you’re patient enough and quiet enough, they’ll share them with you.
This little fishing village is perfect for a stroll. It features cute stores selling fragrances and jewelry. There are many restaurants where you can try Guilin cuisine and my favorite “beer fish”. The village is right beside the river and there are boat cruises that take you to the famous ¥20 note scene. We visited a great coffee shop that had a wonderful dingy ambience. The coffee was very tasty too.
The village is very touristy so don’t go there with the intention of learning a ton about Yangshuo’s history. There are hundreds of women trying to sell tours and rent out Ebikes. Just tell them “no thanks” and move on with your day.

beautiful sunset in yangshuo
Once, in ancient times, Xingping Town was the largest town along the Li River, and is 63 km (39 miles) from Guilin and 25 km (15.5 miles) from Yangshuo, on the east bank of the river. The town is really a beautiful place, surrounded by enthralling scenery. Both Mural Hill and Yellow Cloth Shoal belong to this scenic area.
The charm of the Xingping Town is greatly enhanced by the surrounding hills. The town is located at the foot of Wuzhi (five fingers) Hill. The hills in the east are Sengni Hill that resemble a monk and a nun are bickering with each other, Chaoban Hill is said to look like the tablet held by officials in court in ancient times and Arhat Hill looks like a smiling arhat monk exposing his breast to the sun. The hills in the south are Carp Hill and Snail Hill. The hills in the west are Bijia (pen holder) Hill and Meinv (belle) Peak. The hill in the north is Camel Hill resembling a camel crossing the river.
20 Yuan Viewpoint
The image of 20 yuan note is a view of a fisherman on his bamboo boat floating down the Li River through the Karst mountains of Guilin.
The viewpoint is located around 25 kilometers northeast of Yangshuo, near Xingping Fishing Village (兴坪景区). Xingping is a small village along the Li River.
The scenery around Xingping is absolutely magnificent, so if you want to see 20 Yuan viewpoint you need take a walk out of town on a nice path which crosses a tributary of the Li River and takes you onto a smaller road that runs along the river. After about a 20 minutes walk from Xingping village you will reach the spot where you can see the scenery immortalised on the national 20 RMB note.
There’s a spot where everyone is taking a picture, it’s crowded and noisy. So we walk down the road and went down the hill to the river and found a wonderful spot where you can see the view of 20 rmb note. And there’s no people.
How to get there: minibuses departing to Xingping are available at Yangshuo Bus Station (around 45 minutes). Then walk from Xingping 20 minutes to the viewpoint.

The Great Beauty of Li River Here comes the ultimate guide to exploring the Li River
A must-visit for anyone traveling to Guilin — the Li River🏞️, how should one enjoy it
Method One: Boat tour on the Great Li River🚢
Boat tours on the Great Li River are generally divided into☑️ three-star and ☑️four-star boats, with the scenery along the river being the same for both, but the boarding docks differ. The entire journey takes about 4️⃣ hours.
💰Ticket prices vary, and the meals provided on board differ as well; three-star boats usually offer a simple meal🍽️, while four-star boats provide a more comprehensive buffet lunch👩🏻🍳
The reason why the boat tour is called the Great Li River is that you can see all the beautiful scenery of the Li River throughout the journey🏝️🏝️
Method Two: Bamboo rafting on the Li River🚣♀️
Divided into 1⃣️ bamboo rafting on the Great Li River and 2⃣️ bamboo rafting on the Small Li River
Bamboo rafting on the Great Li River starts from Yangdi Dock and ends at Xingping Dock;
For bamboo rafting on the Small Li River, there are several options: Yangdi Dock to Nine Horses Painting Hill Dock, Nine Horses Painting Hill to Xingping Dock, and round trips from Xingping to Chaobanshan Dock
Method Three: Xingping boat tour on the Small Li River🛥️
Take a small boat in Xingping to tour the Small Li River, with a ⏳duration of about 90 minutes. 🚏The dock route is Xingping to Fishing Village and back, where you can see the reflection of the Yellow Cloth Shoal, the scene depicted on the 20 yuan note💴.
The boats in Xingping are smaller, and for those who have higher requirements for the boat cabin environment, it is recommended to take a three-star or four-star large cruise boat👍🏻
Method Four: Hiking along the Li River
Generally, you can choose to start hiking from Yangdi Dock to Nine Horses
Then, depending on time, decide whether to continue hiking to Xingping or take an electric cart to reach Xingping🛤️. It is safer to hike along the Li River with a local who is familiar with the route and experienced👷🏻♀️
Method Five: Biking along the Li River
Biking on the east bank of the Li River, near the Mopanshan Dock, along the Li River trail, you will have the chance to pass through villages and fields, eventually reaching Daxu Ancient Town🏡
Method Six: Overlooking the Li River from the mountaintop⛰️
🦩There are several mountains from which you can see the entire panorama of the Li River, and Xianggong Mountain is highly recommended for its safety and beautiful scenery. Xianggong Mountain is located within Xingping Town, Yangshuo, and you need to take a car🚗 to the foot of the mountain.
Usually, you either charter a car or join a tour group, then climb the stairs from the foot of the mountain to the top to see the panoramic view of the Li River.🌳 The view of the Li River from the top varies with the weather,
On a clear day, the entire Li River meanders and reveals its surface, on a cloudy or rainy day, you may have the chance to see the Li River surrounded by rain and mist
