The Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal, located at the Port of Yokohama, is a stunning example of modern architecture and a pivotal gateway for international cruise travelers visiting Japan. Completed in 2002 and designed by the renowned British architectural firm Foreign Office Architects, this terminal is celebrated for its unique design that combines functionality with aesthetic appeal.
One of the most remarkable features of the Osanbashi Terminal is its expansive open-air deck, known as the "Whale's Back." This deck, crafted from gently undulating wood, provides a spacious area for visitors to stroll, relax, and enjoy panoramic views. It offers unobstructed vistas of Yokohama's vibrant skyline, including iconic landmarks like the Yokohama Landmark Tower, the historic Red Brick Warehouses, and the futuristic Minato Mirai 21 district. The "Whale's Back" is not only a favorite spot for travelers awaiting their ships but also a beloved viewpoint for locals and tourists alike.
Inside the terminal, the design emphasizes fluidity and openness, with large, airy spaces that accommodate waiting areas, customs and immigration facilities, shops, cafes, and restaurants. The terminal's thoughtful layout ensures smooth passenger flow, enhancing the travel experience. The seamless integration of the terminal with the city's transportation network, including proximity to train and bus services, makes it an ideal entry point for exploring Yokohama and beyond.
The Osanbashi Terminal also serves as a cultural hub, frequently hosting events, exhibitions, and performances that reflect Yokohama's dynamic cultural scene. This blend of functionality and cultural activity makes the terminal a lively and engaging space.
Beyond the terminal itself, the Yokohama view from Osanbashi is unparalleled. As the sun sets, the skyline transforms, with buildings lighting up and reflecting off the waters of Tokyo Bay, creating a mesmerizing tableau. This view encapsulates the essence of Yokohama—a city where history, modernity, and natural beauty coexist harmoniously.
In summary, the Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal is more than just a port; it is a landmark that embodies the spirit of Yokohama. Its innovative design, comprehensive facilities, and breathtaking views make it a must-visit location for anyone traveling through or staying in Yokohama.

Passenger ship terminal near Yamashita Park, Yokohama City
On that day, I took a shared bicycle to the bicycle parking lot in front of the building, parked it, and went into the building
Breathtaking view of the bay especially from sunset. That said, expect to see a lot of visitors walking around and taking photos. It can be crowded but the view is well worth the time and effort.

#thingstodo A wonderful place to relax, run, walk, listen to music or just be one with yourself.
Watching the sunset over Yokohama and watching the Ferris wheel light up will make you forget about any problem you may have.
If it's a nice day and you have a few hours, travel to this location.
The scenery can't really be duplicated in many places.
There's nothing negative to say about a place that doesn't have anything but has a lot to offer.
Going inside the terminal, there's the Blue Terminal Cafe that you can eat at and enjoy the view. Nice clean well lit toilets.
The last order is at 7pm and it closes at 8pm.
Highly recommended if you're in the Yokohama area.
