In Shannan, I saw the real Tibet | Self-driving guide attached.
When we talk about Tibet
It seems that we always think of the Potala Palace in Lhasa first
Or the uninhabited area of Ali Qiangtang
Or Mount Everest in Shigatse
After going to Tibet 8 times
I found that Shannan seems to be easily overlooked by people
But after I really drove through Shannan once
I think: This is the real Tibet
Shannan is considered to be the birthplace of ancient Tibetan culture
There is the first farmland in Tibet-Sariso
There is the first temple in Tibet-Samye Temple
There is the first palace in Tibet-Yongbulakang
After driving in Shannan for 6 days
I really like every moment here
The scenery in early autumn in Shannan is also fascinating
So the scenes recorded through the car window

🏔️The beautiful lakes and snow mountains along the way that should not be missed
✅Narongcuo: This is the largest lake in Cuona City. The west side is the 6,000-meter-level Kongbu Gang Snow Mountain. It is said that Tsangyang Gyatso was born here. Although it is relatively small among the many lakes in Tibet, it is also really beautiful.
✅Pumoyongcuo: South of Kula Gangri Snow Mountain, it is the sacred lake of the Bon religion and also the "Baikal Lake" in China. The lake is a quiet blue, and the distant snow-capped mountains are looming, romantic and time stop here~ If the itinerary is ample, it is recommended to stay in Tuwa Village nearby for one night, which is also one of the highest villages
✅Yamdrok Tso: One of the three major sacred lakes in Tibet, the Yanghu under the clear sky presents a very pure gem blue. You can go to Rituo Temple, located on a peninsula in the heart of Yanghu Lake, which is also known as the loneliest temple in the world
⚠️Self-driving tips:
1️⃣ The overall road conditions in Shannan feel better, but there are also some non-paved road surfaces that make people feel big, so try to use SUV, and prepare anti-skid chains in winter
2️⃣ Check the oil level at any time, refuel if you can refuel at the gas station, and try to keep the oil level sufficient
3️⃣ Apply for a border defense certificate before departure. There is also a border line in Shannan, and a border defense certificate will be required for inspection
4️⃣ There are many bends on the road and the plateau bumps, friends who are prone to motion sickness must prepare motion sickness medicine

A mini version of the Potala Palace.
Yumbulagang, translated as "Palace on the hind leg of a doe", is the first palace in the history of Tibet, built in the 2nd century BC, and is also one of the earliest buildings in Tibet, a national 3A tourist area. Because the mountain where it is located is like a doe lying on its side, and the palace is just built on the "hind leg of the doe", it is named "Yumbulagang". It is located on the top of Zaxi Ciri Mountain, about 5 kilometers southeast of Naidong District, Shannan City, Tibet Autonomous Region, on the east bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River. The entire building is in the form of a castle, divided into three parts: castle-style buildings, halls, monks' rooms and ancillary buildings, with a total of three floors. There are temples and towers where Princess Wencheng lived in the hall. The area is about 1,500 square meters.

Yumbu Lhakhang, the first palace in Tibet
"Yumbu" means doe in Tibetan, named after the mountain Tashi Tsering which resembles a doe. Yumbu Lhakhang is the first palace built by the first Tibetan king, Nyatri Tsenpo. Since then, successive Tibetan kings used it as their palace until Songtsen Gampo unified Tibet and moved to Lhasa, making it the summer palace of Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng. The sacred white walls, the precious and mysterious murals, the imposing architecture... Yumbu Lhakhang has witnessed the love and commitment between Princess Wencheng and Songtsen Gampo. It is a beautiful ancient castle journey you cannot miss when visiting Shannan.

Yumbulagang, the first palace in the history of Tibet
Yumbulagang, meaning 'the palace on the hind leg of a doe', is the first palace in the history of Tibet, and also one of the earliest constructions. It is located southeast of Zetang Town in the Shannan region, towering on the top of Tashi Tsere Mountain on the east bank of the Yarlung River. It is said to have been built by the followers of the Yungdrung Bon religion in the 2nd century BC for the first Tibetan king, Nyatri Tsenpo, and later became the summer palace for Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng in Shannan. During the reign of the 5th Dalai Lama, it was converted into a Gelug monastery. Yumbulagang mainly enshrines the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. The murals inside the palace vividly depict the historical stories of Tibet's first king, the first building, and the first cultivated land. Yumbulagang is divided into two parts: the front is a multi-story building, and the rear is a square high-rise watchtower, which is connected to the front.

Crossing mountains and rivers, seeing oneself
A vacation, escaping the sweaty summer, encountering the magnificent glaciers and lakes, where to go❓
Fingers slide to Tibet, no severe altitude sickness, no overcrowding, want extreme scenery, want a suitable temperature.
Go to Naidong❗️ Go to Naidong❗️ Go to Naidong❗️
South of Tibet, the seat of Shannan city government, the city that Wuhan supports in Tibet. A 4-hour flight, an altitude of 3560 meters, the current highest temperature is 24℃, the lowest temperature is 13℃. Naidong District·Shannan
Here is the 'Yarlung Zangbo Snow Mountain' which is said to be one of the nine divine mountains where the world was formed
Here is the summer palace 'Yongbulakang' of Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng
Here is the 'Changzhu Monastery' with the world's only pearl Thangka
Speaking of Naidong, compared to the popular Lhasa and Nyingchi, you might be a little unfamiliar. The habitable Yarlung Valley has given birth to Tibet's first barley field, the first Zanpu (the Tibetan title for 'king'), and the first palace in Tibet.
A friend who has been supporting Naidong for many years told me that Naidong is actually quite similar to Wuhan, it is the river city of the Tibetan Plateau. 💕
The transportation here is convenient. The Shannan railway station in Naidong 🚆 is built in the shape of Yongbulakang. In 2021, with the opening of the Lalin Railway, this high-altitude train station has become a check-in spot for countless pilgrims. 🚧
The Fuxinghao C882🚞 enters the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, departing from Lhasa, passing through Shannan, heading to Nyingchi. From Shannan railway station to Lhasa, 1 hour and 4 minutes, hard seat 37 yuan. To Nyingchi 2 hours and 30 minutes, hard seat 92 yuan.
A little-known fact, Lhasa Gonggar Airport is not in Lhasa, it's in Shannan, 97 kilometers away from Naidong, a 1-hour drive.
Crossing mountains and rivers, seeing oneself, that's the meaning of travel.
But all of these are not as important as setting off👀💪📸

Tibet's first palace
What else is there in Shannan besides Yamdrok Lake?
🏯Yungbulakang —— 'Yungbu' means 'doe', named after the shape of Tashiciri Mountain resembling a doe, 'Lakang' means 'temple'. Yungbulakang is the first palace in the history of Tibet. According to historical records, it was built in the 2nd century BC. It was the summer palace of Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng.
🏯Samye Monastery —— is the first monastery in Tibet where monks were ordained. The central Buddha hall combines Tibetan, Han, and Indian styles, hence Samye Monastery is also known as the 'Three Styles Monastery'; red, green, black, and white towers are built at the four corners of the main hall to subdue all evil spirits and demons, preventing natural disasters and calamities.
🚗Transportation: Self-driving;
First far then near, Lhasa-Yungbulakang 3 hours, Yungbulakang-Samye Monastery 1 hour, Samye Monastery-Lhasa 2 hours;
🎟️Tickets: Yungbulakang 30💰, Samye Monastery 40💰
🍛Dining: Shannan City 'Ancestral Hometown Tibetan Restaurant', the taste is average, the price is high, but it wins because there is its own museum upstairs, which is not yet open to the public, does not receive groups, I can only treat it as having an ordinary lunch in the scenic area;
👀Tips: 1⃣️The whole journey is on paved roads, the road conditions are very good, there is a section of winding road from Shannan to Samye Monastery, just go slow, overall it is also novice-friendly;
2⃣️After buying a ticket to Yungbulakang, you can hike up the mountain by yourself, it's all steps, and not very high, take it slow and it's about 20 minutes; you can also choose to experience horse riding up the mountain, I think the distance is very short and not necessary, so I didn't ask the price
3⃣️You should visit the main hall of Samye Monastery first, because there is a closing time, there are visitation guides inside, just follow the direction for the visit, there are three or four floors, all of which can be visited, each floor has different halls.

I visited a palace in Tibet that is even older than the Potala Palace, dating back over 2000 years
I have finally arrived at the other side of the Anywhere Door, Tibet's Yungbulakang
Today is the third day of the May Day holiday, and we have come to Yungbulakang, a royal palace that predates the Potala Palace.
Located south of Tsang, it is older than Lhasa. Yungbulakang means 'the palace on the hind leg of a doe.' It has been the residence from the first Tsenpo, Nyatri Tsenpo, of the Yarlung dynasty, to the 33rd Tsenpo, Songtsen Gampo. It has been over two millennia. Princess Wencheng lived in this palace after she came to Tibet, and later, when the Potala Palace was built, this became her and Songtsen Gampo's summer palace. From here, one can see the first piece of farmland that Princess Wencheng cultivated in Tibet.
This place holds many of Tibet's firsts: Tibet's first palace, the first Buddhist temple, Changzhu Monastery, and the first king, Nyatri Tsenpo. The first Tibetan opera also originated here.
Travel tips: It takes about 20 minutes to drive from Shannan city to Yungbulakang. The ticket price is 30 yuan. Upon arrival, you can choose to ride a horse or hike up. The altitude here is around 3700 meters, and it takes roughly 20 minutes to hike up, which is easier than going to the Potala Palace.
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday all day: 9:00~18:00. Entry is stopped after 4:00 pm.

||The incense of the first palace in Tibet.
The Tibetan meaning of Yumbulagang is 'Palace on the hind leg of a doe' 🏛, because this palace is located on a narrow and steep hilltop of Zaxi Ciri Mountain, which is very similar to the hind leg of a doe. It is said that in the 20s of the 2nd century BC, farmers and herdsmen worked hard at the foot of Zaxi Ciri Mountain. One day, a handsome and wise man came, who was the first 'Zanpu' (Tibetan king) in Tibetan history - Niechi Zanpu 🤴. People then built the first palace in Tibet - Yumbulagang on the slope of Zaxi Ciri Mountain for Niechi Zanpu.
·
Yumbulagang is built according to the mountain and repaired according to the mountain ⛰. You can clearly see the mountain in the palace. The 'palace' is built with huge rocks, facing the cliff on three sides and the mountain on one side, standing tall and easy to defend and difficult to attack. Niechi Zanpu started from here and unified the Yalong tribe. The building is divided into three floors. The first half of the first floor is the entrance hall, with an area of 33 square meters. The entrance hall is a small platform with eaves. The second half is the Buddha Hall, where statues of Songtsen Gampo, Princess Wencheng and others are enshrined. The second floor is also divided into two parts, the front half is a platform surrounded by low walls on three sides, and the second half is a corridor with a patio. From Niechi Zanpu, Yumbulagang became the early palace of the leaders of the Yalong tribe; during the Songtsen Gampo period, the palace was changed to a Buddhist hall, and it was also his and Princess Wencheng's summer palace; by the fifth Dalai Lama, the original tower-style building was repaired with a four-cornered spire-style golden roof, and it was changed to a temple. In addition to some monk rooms in Yumbulagang, there is also a bedroom where the Dalai Lama lived when he came to worship Buddha. There are statues of Sakyamuni Buddha, Niechi Zanpu, Latototri Nianzan, Songtsen Gampo, Princess Wencheng, Chisong Dezan and others in the palace.

Debra Kang was the first palace in Tibetan history. During the summer of the Tang Dynasty, Songtsan Gambo and Princess Wencheng would live here, but later became a temple.
The mountain where Debra Kang is located is called Tashi Xiri Mountain. It takes a long walk to reach the palace. If you have a high-reverse or tired friend, you can ride the palace on horseback.
In addition to taking a panoramic view of the palace on the top, I also found a dark cloud, and the weather is also amazing.
