Camping in middle of Desert 🏜️

Given that the tent city is only erected for the fair it was good. The tent was spacious, containing two twin beds and had an ensuite bathroom. There was no a/c.There were two chairs in the tent and two out front. The tent also included a shaded front porch. We stayed there for two nights arriving at lunchtime on the first day. For us the time was too long; 1/2 to 1 day would have been enough, in part because the middle of the day was so hot that we spent it keeping cool as best we could be taking showers and relaxing on the front porch. The food was vegetarian and was reasonably good given the number of people they had to accommodate. It was billed as an alcohol free space though a group of people on our row clearly had brought alcohol and had a happy hour before dinner. The camp provided transportation to the fair which was in the form of carts pulled by camel or tractor.

Pushkar 🏜, Ajmer, Rajasthan - India Travel
Pushkar is a city in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan, India. It is located about 10 km from Ajmer city. It is a very famous pilgrimage site for Hindus and Sikhs. It has many temples and a famous lake.
Pushkar is also famous for its annual fair called Pushkar Camel Fair, which features a trading fete of cattle, horses and camels. It is held over seven days in autumn, around October or November.
📍 Getting There - From Ajmer city we booked a cab till Pushkar. It is around 10km from the Ajmer city.
⚡️Attractions - Temples, Pushkar lake, camel ride/safari, Pushkar camel fair or camel festival, etc.
🍴Food & Restaurants - Very limited food options and restaurants, mostly street food (which I'll not recommend). Better to carry some snacks.
🛍 Shopping - You can buy some souvenirs in the fair, don't forget to bargain though.

Brahma Temple in Pushkar, Rajasthan, India is a Hindu religious hotspot, a temple dedicated to the Lord that brought about the creation of everything, Brahma. It also features worship to one of his ladies, Gayatri, and the worship is supervised and regulated by ascetic saints. It has exquisite architecture, including a remarkable pinnacle in red and a bird symbol that is linked to ancient mythology and womanhood. It has myths connected to it of the Lord Brahma subduing a demon that tormented harmless mortals. It is very near geographically to the sacred Pushkar Lake that is a famous pilgrimage destination and is used for taking a sin purging dip by devotees. There are also mountains located nearby, other palaces, forts and lakes which altogether make this a supreme tourist experience.

It gains importance among spiritual travelers who aim to have a holy dip in the lake, which is considered a holy place and the King of ‘Tirthas’. It is believed that having a holy dip here is equivalent to doing meditation and prayer for a hundred years. Hence, this is most frequented by people who follow a particular faith. For others and including the religious people, this place is a beauty in itself. Surrounded by 400 temples and 52 palaces, the lake still looks serene and calm. The place is unique and the sunrise and sunset are beautiful to watch from here.

When I first arrived in Pushkar, I met a rare Indian wedding. We rushed into the wedding team and sneaked a lot of photos. The enthusiastic Indians also invited us to take photos with them, and proposed to let them also attend their wedding with their patriarchs. But we refused. In other words, the groom is riding a white horse to greet the bride, and looks really good.
In India, the wedding time is more than 8:00 pm, the wedding venue chooses to open the fixed venue, and there are chefs on the scene to make Indian food.
The bride went to the salon to dress up on the wedding day. The groom wore Indian national costumes and sat in the carriage early to arrive at the wedding scene to wait for the bride. The groom can enter the wedding scene after waiting, accepting the blessings of the female elders, and cutting the ribbon.
At the formal wedding ceremony, the bride and groom first accept the blessings of the elders and relatives of the women's ethnic group, and then enter the rituals such as wearing garlands, exchanging jewellery, burning grains and wishing for each other's handkerchiefs. The entire wedding took 7 or 8 hours.
Most of the man is responsible for buying a house, while the woman is responsible for purchasing home appliances and other wedding facilities and holding weddings. The female family with conditions will also accompany the car.

The holy city of Pushkar has a population of only 14,800, but it has several Hindu temples. In the streets and lanes, on both sides of the trail, almost all of them are occupied by temples. More interesting is that there are many home vestibules that are temples. The citizens in the small town are devout Hindus, and tourism and religious activities are their main tasks. The small town strictly abides by the ancient Hindu rules, and the whole city is vegetarian. In this city, alcohol, meat, and even eggs are banned. The small town was built around the lake. Except for bicycles, no other means of transportation is allowed, which is a very rare rule in India. The small town is small, with only one main street, surrounded by lakes, and almost all of the main buildings are built around small lakes. Here you can think about everything, you can also do nothing, feel free to think, quite emotional.

Every corner of the hotel is picturesque, with a variety of ornamental potted plants and hanging green vines. The balcony is a three-blue dream palace hemisphere pavilion. All the murals in this 5-storey house are purely hand-painted! Ok, next to the return theme, our various photos ^^!
Sit on the stairs, continue to shoot against the wall, Zhaijing will come again, you will take the trouble to let me shoot... I took a picture from the third floor door and lock of our residence. In the lobby of the building, the boss who sat in the conversation with the guests saw the instinct and let go. When we prepared to take another road to the 5th floor, the boss who was infected by us shouted, "I will come to take a photo with you!" Finally, we stayed in the dream pavilion on the 4th floor. This floor is already semi-open (the hotel is a circular hollow courtyard design), half is still the housing design, and the other half is completely connected to the outside world, so we can This continues to take pictures of the interior, and you can also watch the blue sky and white clouds and breathe fresh air while taking a break in the hall. But we didn't even think about sitting on the tatami in the pavilion and sitting down and didn't want to get up, because it was so pleasant!

The small town Pushkar is built around the lake. The houses built around the lake are mostly white. Most of them are temples, which are especially beautiful under the lake. The lake here is a holy water to the devout Hindus, just like the Ganges River. They believe that holy water can wash away sin and seek the blessing of the gods. In the evening, I came to the lake. There are many European and American tourists practicing yoga and tambourine here. It is very lively.

The Experience Depends on Timing
I visited Pushkar Lake in the middle of the day, and the busy pathways made it difficult to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere I had hoped for. Later, I returned early the next morning and had a completely different experience. The calm water and morning prayers created a much more memorable visit. I realized the lake itself isn’t overrated—it’s simply best experienced at quieter times rather than during the busiest hours. #overratedspots

Peaceful Yet More Commercial Than Expected
#overratedspots
Pushkar Lake is considered one of India’s holiest places, so I imagined a calm and deeply spiritual atmosphere. While there were peaceful moments by the ghats, I also noticed many souvenir shops, crowds, and people offering rituals to visitors. It sometimes felt more commercial than I expected. I respected the religious significance of the lake, but I left feeling that the surrounding atmosphere didn’t fully match the tranquil experience I had imagined. #overratedspots

Highly Recommended Private Driver for a Family Rajasthan Trip
We’re traveling through Rajasthan as a family of four with Manoj as our private driver on a 16-day journey covering Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur, Narlai, and Udaipur. Choosing him has truly been one of our best decisions. From the outset, Manoj took the time to understand what we envisioned for this trip. Instead of sticking to a rigid schedule, he listened to our preferences and tailored each day according to our pace and interests, giving the whole experience a personal and relaxed touch.
What has impressed us most is his attentiveness to our needs throughout the journey. Whenever there was a need for adjustments—a later start or a slower pace—Manoj adapted seamlessly and always checked in to ensure we were comfortable and happy. Nothing ever seemed like too much trouble for him. His excellent English has made communication easy and enjoyable, and our drives have been enriched by fascinating conversations about Indian culture, history, and daily life. Manoj is always eager to answer our questions and share his perspective, making it feel less like traveling with a driver and more like traveling with a friend. He even invited us to meet his family along the way.
Manoj is a remarkably safe, calm, and courteous driver. His vehicle is consistently clean, comfortable, and well air-conditioned, ensuring that the long drives between cities are pleasant. He is reliably punctual, dependable, and reachable anytime through WhatsApp whenever we need assistance.
For families planning a Rajasthan itinerary or anyone seeking an English-speaking private driver who is attentive, reliable, and flexible, we wholeheartedly recommend Manoj without hesitation.

Pushkar: The Wild Side of Rajasthan You Gotta See!
Pushkar is seriously a vibe like no other – this place is wild, colorful, and definitely not for the faint of heart! 💥 If you’re after an adventure that’s a little off the grid and totally Insta-worthy, Pushkar will flip your expectations.
The energy here is crazy – from bustling bazaars packed with handmade goodies, to holy ghats where local rituals go down every evening. The Pushkar Lake is the heart of the city, and chilling there as the sun sets is just 🤯.
Heads up: Pushkar can be overwhelming, especially during the annual camel fair (usually held in November at Pushkar Fairground, just outside town). The crowds, street food, and the endless chaos will keep your adrenaline pumping – but that’s what makes it sooo good!
Don’t miss:
· Pushkar Lake (Pushkar, Rajasthan 305022): Chill by the ghats, watch people feed the fish, and soak in the spiritual vibes.
· Brahma Temple (Main Market Road, Pushkar, Rajasthan 305022): One of the few temples on the planet dedicated to Brahma – so cool!
· Cafés along the market street: Serving everything from classic Indian thalis to fresh fruit juices, open daily 8am-late.
· Pushkar Fairground: If you’re here during the camel festival, the action kicks off early morning and goes until sunset.
Is Pushkar intense? 100% yes. Is it fun? You bet! If you’re up for something totally unique, this city promises a wild ride and memories that’ll stick.

Unforgettable Family Trip to India with Monuments Indian Tour
I traveled with my sister and mom on a family trip to India with Monuments Indian Tour, and it was truly a unique experience. The organization was exceptional—thank you, Manu! The itinerary, hotels, guides, and tours were all spot-on. We fully enjoyed every city we visited: Delhi, Jaipur, Pushkar, Udaipur, Rishikesh, Varanasi, and Mumbai. It was amazing to connect with the people, their culture, and beliefs.
The guides were outstanding, sharing the rich history of each place and accommodating all our requests. The drivers were excellent as well. We traveled by car, train, and plane, and Ravi, one of the drivers, charmed us with fascinating stories during our rides. I can't wait to return and explore more of India!

Worth Visiting With Respectful Expectations
Walking around Pushkar Lake during sunset was beautiful, and watching pilgrims perform religious rituals gave me a deeper appreciation of the city’s traditions. At the same time, I found the area much busier than I expected, with persistent vendors and many tourists. The lake remains an important spiritual destination, but I think some travelers expecting a quiet retreat may find it a little overrated because of the crowds. #overratedspots

Excellent Rajasthan Journey with Praveen
Our family from New Zealand embarked on a journey from Delhi to Agra, Pushkar, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and finally Jaipur. Praveen was our driver, and he was outstanding. He took great care of us, drove safely, and accommodated all our family needs. Every morning, he picked us up on time and ensured we got to our accommodations safely. He provided us with ample breaks, kept us hydrated, and introduced us to the stunning palaces and attractions of Rajasthan. He made our trip exceptional, and we look forward to visiting India, particularly Rajasthan, again. Thank you, Praveen!

Wonderful 6-Day Tour Across Pushkar, Jaipur, Agra, and Delhi
We embarked on a 6-day trip to Pushkar, Jaipur, Agra, and finally returned to Delhi. Our journey began with a pickup at the airport by a courteous and charming driver named Nipendra Chatham, who upgraded our experience throughout the trip and accommodated all our requests. While in Pushkar, we explored independently. In Jaipur, we spent half a day with a guide named Krishna, who showed us several beautiful sites. Krishna was knowledgeable and patient, even capturing photos of us at various impressive locations throughout the day. On our way from Jaipur, we visited Fatehpur Sikri and another site with a terrific guide arranged by the company.
Continuing to Agra, we toured around with our driver and enjoyed sunset views of the Taj Mahal from nearby gardens. The next morning, we woke early at 5 AM to meet our guide Imran for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal. Imran was an amateur photographer and helped us take breathtaking pictures of ourselves and the iconic site. From there, we proceeded to Delhi.
In Delhi, our driver accompanied us to several attractions, including the Lotus Temple and Akshardham Temple (highly recommended). Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip!

Pushkar
Visited for 3 nights. A wonderful town in the state of Rajasthan. Includes Ghats, lakes and he’s the vibe of a seaside town despite being near the desert. Great temples, food and most importantly its sun set spot. We did get caught in a dust storm for a day but other than that it was magical. #travel #india #travel2026

Explore Kancoona & A Sunset Detour in Pushkar 🌅✨
If you're looking to slow down and soak in some stunning scenery, my recent trip through Kancoona and a surprise sunset escape to Pushkar should be on your radar! Kancoona charms with rural Aussie vibes, while the sunset view over Pushkar’s cityscape—cloudy skies, rainy hues, and the city’s classic buildings—was pure magic. The way the sky melts into the architecture is unforgettable!
Top Spots to Visit:
1. Pushkar Lake: Don’t miss this serene spot! Early morning or pre-sunset is best—it's quieter and the play of light on the water is unreal.
2. Pushkar Ghats: Wander the many ghats, especially during golden hour. The reflections and local activity make for epic photos.
3. Local Architecture: Pushkar’s mix of Chinese influences and Rajasthani style is seriously photogenic—look up as you stroll to catch hidden gems!
Tips from my experience: Try to catch the city from above just as sunset hits (think temple rooftops or higher ground)—after a rain, the sky goes wild and the colors double up in the city’s lakes and ponds. It’s one of those nature-vision moments you’ll remember.
Transport Hack: In Kancoona, hiring a car is a must as public transport’s rare. When heading to Pushkar, rickshaws work well within town, and it’s all super walkable.
Where to Eat: In Pushkar, hit up rooftop cafes overlooking the lake for dinner with a view (veggie thali is a winner).
Quick Tips: Carry cash (ATMs can be glitchy). Weather can shift fast, so pack a poncho. No visa stress in Australia, but check for India’s e-visa if hopping to Pushkar.

Walk the World Series India: Pushkar
Pushkar, also known as the Holy City, is a city under Rajasthan state in India, located in the northwest of India with a population of about 14,800. The city is famous for its dense distribution of Hindu temples, with small religious sites commonly seen along the streets and in front yards of residences. The entire city enforces a strict vegetarian policy, prohibiting the sale of alcohol, meat, and eggs, and only bicycles are allowed as means of transportation.
The city is built by the mountains and lake, with the main buildings distributed along the only main street around the lake. Its core sacred lake is said to have been formed by lotus petals falling from the hand of Brahma, the creator god in Hinduism. The Hindi name "Pushkar" comes from the combination of "PUSHPA (flower)" and "KAR (hand)." The lake water is regarded as holy by Hindus, and white houses and dedicated bathing ghats are built on the lakeside for devotees to purify themselves.
