Sri Ksetra World Heritage Site
This ancient archaeological site was once the settlement of the Pyu Civilization, one of the earliest kingdoms in Myanmar (earlier than Bagan). The site is recognized by UNESCO.
From what I have observed from the architecture of the temples in this site, I can guess that Bagan architects had borrowed the styles from this ancient civilization.
There aren’t as many temples as you would find in Bagan, but each place has its own distinctions. For instance, there aren’t a lot of tourists at this place, and very few people know about this place. Literally, you might be the only wanderer on the site at any given time, which can get creepy sometimes, because there are ancient burial sites too.
There is a museum showcasing Artifacts from the archaeological site. They are very well preserved and equally interesting. You can find burial urns, sculptures of gods, and jewelry.
If you are on a river cruise from Yangon to Mandalay, or vice versa. Be sure to stop by this place. If not, you might consider visiting the more popular Bagan.
Transportation/Accommodation - the closest city is Pyay. There are pretty good hotels and worthy attractions in Pyay. 2 days/one 1night would be perfect to visit both places. You’ll have to stay overnight in Pyay anyway if you plan to visit the heritage site.

Akauk Taung ( Lucky Buddha!)
Across the Ayeyarwaddy River on the western bank near Htone-Bo, there is a place of attraction called Akauk Taung (a toll-hill). At the end of the Second Anglo-Burmese war, Myanmar and British toll-posts were situated on Akauk Taung, a toll-hill in the Myanmar language side by side. All boatmen had to pay tax to both posts. All sailing boats anchored close by the hill and waited till, occasionally, a week-long whirlpool ceased. The sailors prayed to God by carving Buddha images on the cliffside during that period. The mountain was named for the crafty toll-takers from the mid-19th Century. This trip will reveal one of the world's heritage sites of Myanmar and the spectacular site of countless Buddha Images on the wall of the Ayeyarwaddy River bank. There are more than 1000 Buddha images, but now it left 300 Buddha images because of natural disasters.

🏛️ Pyay Adventure: Ancient Kingdoms, Riverside Sunsets & the Crispiest Falooda in Myanmar
#springitinerary
Ever wanted to time-travel to a 2,000-year-old Pyu kingdom, then stuff yourself with street food while watching the Ayeyarwady turn gold? Welcome to Pyay—where history and hedonism collide.
🌅 First Impressions
Stepping off the bus, Pyay hit me with warm, dusty air and the sound of bicycle bells ringing past crumbling colonial buildings. The Ayeyarwady loomed in the distance—wide, lazy, and dotted with fishing boats. The vibe? "Bagan’s quieter, cooler cousin."
🤣 The "I Climbed a Pagoda… and a Goat Followed Me" Moment
At Shwesandaw Pagoda, I decided to "get a better view" by climbing a less-touristed side stupa. Halfway up, I realized a determined goat was trailing me, bleating like I owed it money. (Spoiler: It beat me to the top.) 🐐
🍜 Foodie Heaven
Breakfast was Pyay’s famous ahlu poh—flaky, deep-fried bread sticks dipped in chickpea curry. But the unexpected star? A street cart’s falooda—rose-syrup-soaked jelly, crunchy nuts, and ice cream so thick it could double as a pillow. I ordered two.
💎 Hidden Gem: Sri Ksetra’s Forgotten Ruins
Everyone visits Shwesandaw, but the real magic is biking 10km to Sri Ksetra, an ancient Pyu city. Wander through 1,000-year-old brick stupas swallowed by grass—no fences, no tickets, just you and the ghosts of empires.
⏳ Weekend Itinerary
6 AM: Shwesandaw sunrise (golden stupa + misty river views).
8 AM: Ahlu poh feast at the market (get extra curry for dipping!).
12 PM: Bike to Sri Ksetra (pack water + a sense of wonder!).
4 PM: Riverside hammock nap (essential).
7 PM: Barbecue buffet by the clock tower (try the lemongrass quail!).
Final Tips
Rent a motorbike—it’s the best way to explore.
Carry small kyat—many vendors won’t have change.
Learn "Hnit sar lah?" ("Is this coconut?" in Burmese)—key for snack safety.
Pyay doesn’t just whisper history—it shouts it through street food and stubborn goats. 🏍️ #PyayOrBust

Shundao Village is located more than ten kilometers away from the suburbs of Beifang. In the village next to the town, there are several scenic countryside and a beautiful Buddhist temple.
Here, the flow of time is particularly slow. A vivid and interesting picture of the countryside, spread out around the town of Shundao.

Among the several sites in Cinda, the 46-meter-long cylindrical stupa baby jade is the most attractive attraction. Looking up at the tall stupa and the plains behind it, it is like entering the long history of Myanmar.
Into this stupa, you can also see the glorious history of the ancient Shu Kingdom, which is awe-inspiring.

In the village of Cindaya, there is a very interesting Wanfo Village. The villagers use their endless imagination to create clay sculptures of different shapes and forms. The piety of these Buddhists and the wisdom of the working people are extremely admirable.
Here, you can feel the great power from faith and the good wishes people want to live with peace.

You are the messenger of peace, marrying the bridge of friendship between the Burmese and the Mon people; you are the great Ruishan Tuo, the fireworks that will never be annihilated in people's hearts.
Compared to the famous Yangon Shwedagon Pagoda, the name of Ruishan Tu is rarely known. However, this stupa is actually one meter higher than the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. The two golden umbrellas at the top of the stupa symbolize the peace between the Burmese and Mon people. Under the
Rishan Tuo Pagoda, there is a museum with many precious and precious Burmese artifacts and detailed pictures showing the ancient history of the pagoda. Here, you can travel through the long river of history and visit the mysterious history of Myanmar.

Because of the arrival of the festival, the night market under the pagoda is particularly lively, the parade floats, the shining Ferris wheel, the crowds, this is not a typical Burmese night, but it is fascinating.
Looking at the great Ruishantu Temple, whether it is the towering ladder, the exquisite clay sculpture, the great pagoda, and the charming lights under the night, are deeply in my mind.
