National Day trip to Taoyuan Village, Qimen.
On the first day of National Day, we set off at 6:30 am, heading for Taoyuan Village, Qimen.
From Jixian Road, we took the city ring expressway. There were already many cars on the road, but we were able to maintain a good speed. After transferring to He'an Expressway, there were even more vehicles, and it seemed like there was an accident. Following the navigation prompts, we turned onto Deshang Expressway, where there were significantly fewer cars. We passed through many tunnels and took a break in the middle. We arrived at the inn before 11:00 am.
Taoyuan Village is an ancient village in Shanli Town, Qimen. It features traditional Hui-style architecture. The village is characterized by its numerous ancestral halls, with seven said to exist. We visited three or four of them, which is already a considerable number given the village's size. It seems that the Chen clan was quite wealthy back then. There is a special feature in the ancestral hall: the wood carvings depict a phoenix above a dragon.
There is only one inn in the village, located at the highest point. In the morning, it is pleasant to walk down the stone steps and wander around the village. There is an ancient camphor tree in the village, said to be the sacred tree when the village was founded. This is worth seeing. The trunk is very thick, requiring several people to encircle it. The tree is still strong and healthy, as if it were in its prime.
At the entrance of the village, there is also a covered bridge worth seeing. We have seen many ancient bridges, but not an ancient covered bridge. We can imagine that the person who built this bridge not only considered connecting the two banks, but also thought of providing shelter from the wind and rain. This is truly a great merit!
Not far from Taoyuan Village, there is another ancient village called Pancun, which also has guesthouses.
Hike the Beech Root Ridge Ancient Trail | Thousand-year-old Ancient Trail | A great place to avoid traffic jams during National Day holiday.
The Beech Root Ridge Ancient Trail was first built in the early Ming Dynasty and continued in the Qing Dynasty. It is 7.4 kilometers long and paved with rectangular bluestone slabs, each approximately 1.5 meters long, 0.6 meters wide, and 0.2 meters thick. It was the "national highway" connecting Anqing, the provincial capital of Anhui Province, with Huizhou and Jiangxi. It is commonly known as the "Ancient Huizhou Road". It is the best-preserved and culturally rich ancient "national highway" in southern Anhui.
The Beech Root Pass on the ancient trail is a military pass built by Zeng Guofan's Xiang Army on the ridge of the Beech Root Ridge Ancient Huizhou Road. It was used to prevent the Taiping Army from advancing south. The city wall is 3.5 meters high, 18 meters wide, and 5 meters thick; the city gate is 2.2 meters high and 1 meter wide. The entire pass and city wall are built with bluestone slabs, magnificent and imposing, with the momentum of "one man guarding the pass, ten thousand men cannot open it".
The starting point of the ancient trail is located in Licha Pit Village, Ruokeng Township, Qimen County, Anhui Province. Navigate and take Huangfu Expressway, exit at Shanli Interchange, then follow the navigation prompts directly to Licha Pit Village, where there is a free parking lot. The entrance to the ancient trail is on the hillside across the creek from the parking lot. After entering the ancient trail, you can first follow the ancient trail signs to the right and complete the Beech Root Ridge Ancient Trail, reaching the road at the top of the mountain. This is the resting point after climbing the ancient trail. A little further down to the right is the Beech Root Pass. You can visit the nearby area and enjoy the scenery. Most tourists return along the original route after visiting here. Yesterday, after our visit, we did not return directly along the original route, but continued hiking along the mountaintop road towards the main peak of Xianyu Mountain for about 4 kilometers. You can see the sign for the Seven-Colored Jade Valley. Follow the sign down to the Seven-Colored Jade Valley, which is a ticketed attraction. Recently, due to the partial destruction of the scenic road by water, it is under repair, so there is no ticket inspection. After visiting the Seven-Colored Jade Valley, walk along the valley for 1.5 kilometers, and you will reach the sign for entering the ancient trail at Figures 18 and 19. This way, you don't have to walk back, and you can also visit the Seven-Colored Jade Valley. It is a relatively perfect small loop hike. It is recommended for friends with good physical strength to try it. Qimen Guniujiang Qimen·Huangshan

Address: Taoyuan Village, Shanli Town, Qimen County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province,
This summer, an absolutely hidden gem for playing in the water in Southern Anhui!
For the May Day holiday, I specifically chose to avoid the crowds and took a trip to Qimen, planning to find a secluded place to lie flat for a few days. I never expected it to be so beautiful that I couldn't stop playing around. I have to say, this is the most perfect combination of mountains and water in Southern Anhui, and it has refreshed my understanding of the area once again.
Along the way, the mountains on both sides are covered with neatly arranged tea gardens, and even the houses in the mountains are neatly lined up, which is very friendly to those with OCD. The trees are lush along the way, and there are streams of various sizes everywhere, and most of these streams are clear and shallow, allowing you to stop the car and play in the water at any time.
Li Creek Canyon - Navigate to 'Guniujiang National Nature Reserve Li Creek Management Station', and you'll find pools of various sizes all the way up the canyon, with water so clear it makes you question life. If you're lucky, you might even see a salamander.
Li Creek Ancient Village - A free ancient village, right at the entrance is a long stream, the water is also incredibly clear, and there are lots of small fish inside, so delicate don't even think about catching one, don't ask me how I know.
Jinshan Village Yan Shang - Just over ten minutes' drive from the above two attractions, there is a stunningly beautiful lake, perfect for dazing out all day. Located at the foot of the mountain and by the water, it's very healing, and if I were to choose a Shangri-La in this life, it would definitely be here.
Qimen, this scenic spot 'delayed' by 'black tea', also has the most well-preserved ancient tree forest in Huizhou, Taoyuan Village, Hongqi Village...
If you're bringing children, I suggest choosing places with clear and gentle water to play in (there are many here). Also, it's not recommended to go swimming in the mountains on rainy days, safety always comes first when going out to play.
Leave No Trace Travel Initiative: All the attractions are very pristine, and I hope everyone can enjoy the beauty while also taking care of and protecting them. Please take your trash with you, so the beauty can last.
Follow me, and I'll take you to explore more hidden gems in Southern Anhui.
Huangshan Qimen Tongkeng
Tongkeng is a secluded small mountain village, where the mountains are high, the forests are dense, and the ravines crisscross, with streams babbling all year round. From a high vantage point, one can see that the village is situated right at the confluence of two small streams, merging into one, which is the origin of the name 'Tongkeng'. Also, because it is surrounded by mountains on all sides, resembling a barrel, and the village is at the bottom of the pit, it is also known as 'Tongkeng'.
The highest peak of Tongkeng is Weizi Mao, with an altitude of over 1400 meters. The protruding boulders on the mountain peak look like a hat placed on the ridge of the mountain, forming the symbol of Tongkeng, which is clearly visible even from Lixia, more than ten kilometers away. There are many cliffs and precipices on the high mountains, with few trees. After heavy rain, the water pours down, and from a distance, it looks like a ribbon hanging on the rock wall. In winter, snowflakes start to flutter on the mountain peaks early. It's as if heaven is taking care of its own child, wrapping the entire summit in a thick layer of worn cotton-padded jacket, always afraid that Weizi Mao will be damaged by the cold. Whenever this happens, my grandfather would tell me that the weather is going to clear up.
Qimen is known for the saying 'nine mountains, half water, and half farmland'. Tongkeng is a small village in Qimen without even half a division of farmland, located in the hinterland of the Guoniujian Nature Reserve. It is adjacent to Shitai County, poor and backward, which is evident at a glance. Generations have lived on tea, which grows among the rocks in the mountains, with little soil but fertile land. The tea picked is robust and well-shaped, with thick juice and a mellow taste after being brewed for a long time. Also, because Tongkeng is at a high altitude and the weather is unpredictable, with fog surrounding it all year round, the tea produced here, regardless of size or price, is fragrant and refreshing. Unfortunately, due to the abundance of mountains and the scarcity of land, the production cannot scale up, and without the support of a brand, Tongkeng tea has still not made its way out.
Lesser-Known Scenic Spot in Southern Anhui: Taoyuan Village in Shandi Town, Huangshan
With a history of over 800 years, the ancient village of Taoyuan is located in Qixi Shandi Town. It is said that the village was named after Tao Yuanming's 'The Peach Blossom Spring'.
The scenery is intoxicating. In fact, Taoyuan Village has a simple charm, and the villagers are mostly honest and kind, living an idyllic life, much like the people in The Peach Blossom Spring. The villagers are mostly surnamed Chen. When the Chen family came to Taoyuan, there were five brothers. As the family grew, the five brothers built seven ancestral halls, namely Dajingtang, Chijingtang, Baojitang, Shenhuitang, Sizhengtang, Dabentang, and Xuwuci, known as 'Five Gates and Seven Halls'.
In ancient times, Taoyuan had eight natural sceneries, namely Shibilinzhu, Yuyin Hantan, Xintian Gubai, Mingyue Yetang, Maofeng Gonghu, Tianjin Lingyuan, Xianren Liji, and Jiazi Beiweng. Later, artificial additions such as Baoshan Temple, Yunmiao Guan, and Shenming Pavilion created ten more scenes, showing the village's beauty.
As time goes by, most of the original eighteen scenes no longer exist, but the tranquil and fresh pastoral scenery of Taoyuan remains unchanged, as does the simple and pleasant village atmosphere, like a touch of light green, a breeze that moves the heart.
Taoyuan Li Bridge is at the entrance of Taoyuan Village. The inscription on the bridge describes the scenic spots near Taoyuan Li Bridge and records the situation of public fundraising for the bridge's construction. It was written by Wang Zhi, a Jinshi (successful candidate in the Imperial examinations) in the second year of the Ming Chenghua period (1466), who was a member of the Imperial Household Department from Qimen City, and inscribed by Wang Mian, who once served as the magistrate of Yanshi in Henan, from Xin'an, Qimen.
Navigation: Taoyuan Village, Shandi, Qimen
Lixi Ancient Village "Play in the water, drink tea, listen to stories"
Lixi Ancient Village is located within the territory of Qimen County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, quietly lying at the foot of the Guniujiang Mountain in Qimen, giving off a feeling of being nurtured in seclusion, unknown to the world.
It has a history and culture of a thousand years, and has produced many famous doctors, with the most famous being the Ming Dynasty imperial physician Wang Tang.
There were not many people when we went in the afternoon, and the ticket price was 30 yuan per person.
Upon entering the village, you see a huge stone stele with the characters "Lixi" inscribed on it. The winding mountain road before the entrance to the village is rugged, with dense bamboo forests. Near the village entrance, the road turns, and a painting-like scene appears before your eyes (pictures 7, 8). Passing through this beautiful scenery and entering the village, walking along the small paths in the village, you can see the typical Hui-style architecture, with white walls and black tiles, and flying eaves and arches. The village has ancient ancestral halls, temples, bridges, steles, trees, tombs, and operas, many scenes that have withstood the test of time.
The most famous of these is the Wang family ancestral hall "Hetang", built by the Ming Dynasty imperial physician Wang Tang. Wang Tang once treated Ming Shenzong and Ming Guangzong, and received rewards and titles from the emperor.
At the end of the village, there is a camphor tree that is several hundred years old, with a thick trunk and a dense canopy.
To be continued
You must drive yourself, just navigate directly to Lixi Village.
The grand theater of Lixi ancient village
It's a sizable theater garden where indoor performances of even operas take place, a relic from ancient times that has been renovated to preserve its old charm. Nowadays, it serves as a teahouse open to the public. The entrance is modest, situated by the river. Inside, there are floors above and below, and during performances, there are private boxes available for an immersive experience. One can spend the whole day chatting over a pot of Qimen black tea, slowly enjoying each play, one by one. It makes one reflect on the rich and leisurely life of our ancestors. Once we retire, we'll have more time to explore and understand. I just hope that with the country's development, we'll have more retirement funds to spend on such cultural excursions.
The Mudian Opera on the Lixi Water Street
The hospitable villagers of the ancient Lixi village specially performed the Mudian Opera for us on the square of Lixi Water Street. This is an ancient folk opera genre in our country, and it is also the most famous in history, with the most plays, the most completely preserved, the richest in content, and the grandest in scale. It is also the first drama in the history of Chinese opera with verifiable evidence, hence it is known as the 'ancestor of all operas'. Since May 20, 2006, when Huizhou Mudian Opera was listed as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects, Qimen, as the core component of Mudian Opera in Huizhou, has an irreplaceable important position in the development history of Mudian Opera and the history of Chinese drama. The performance that day started in the square, but as the rain got heavier, we had to move indoors to continue with other plays.
The trip to Lixi ancient village is truly worthwhile
Lixi ancient village is a village in Qimen County with a rich cultural and natural landscape. The mountains are clear, the water is pure, and the local customs are simple and unspoiled by excessive development. The village is home to numerous ancient bridges, ancestral halls, trees, and steles. The preserved ancient opera is an eye-catching intangible cultural heritage. Lixi harbors many ancient and magical legends, making it a great place to visit, especially now during the fragrant rapeseed flower season, making the trip truly worthwhile.
The charm of Lixi Village remains irresistible even in the rain
The picturesque ancient village of Lixi, despite the rain, still displays its beauty. With the help of anti-slip shoes, I toured several ancient buildings along the slippery stone paths. What puzzled me was the Qimen Imperial Physician Exhibition Hall, which looked as though it had been specially restored and arranged at one point. I wonder why it now appears to have been 'ransacked' or if the quality of the restoration is in doubt, as it is now in a state of disrepair. It is difficult to fully understand the complete content of the imperial physician exhibition, and this kind of indirect waste is truly regrettable. How can it live up to the title of a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit? If efforts were made to reorganize, it could probably be restored. The real challenge is how to raise funds again, but I hope that through our sketching activities and publicity, more tourists will come to visit and build popularity. We must resolve to cherish the assets left by our ancestors and not waste them away, failing to live up to the name of a provincial-level protected unit.
Wentang ranks first, followed by Zhukou, then Penglong, and finally Likou
Wentang, historically known as Huntou and Hengtou, is located at the foot of Xianyu Mountain. During the Song Dynasty, it belonged to Xianguishang Township, Zhuojinli, and in the Yuan Dynasty, the 'li' was changed to 'du', becoming one of the twenty 'du'. The local saying in Qimen goes: 'Wentang ranks first, followed by Zhukou, then Penglong, and finally Likou,' referring to the historical position and wealth of Wentang in the western townships of Qimen.
Since ancient times, Wentang has been home to scholars and distinguished individuals, never lacking in notable figures. In this small mountain village of less than 1 square kilometer, there were 4 Juren and 2 Jinshi in ancient times. The four Chen brothers from Wentang, known as the 'Four Mountain Men'—Xianggao, Xiangmin, Xiangrong, and Xiangxiu—were all well-known figures.
1⃣️If you continue along the ancient path by the Zhuanshuiwan River for about a hundred meters and turn left, you will see a pile of green slate stones lying across the path; this is the site of the Kuiguang Archway. This archway, with its three-bay, four-pillar, and five-story structure, is grand and imposing, with exquisite carvings. Its architrave, upper arch, and floating decorations on the stone pillars are beautifully ornate. The archway was built in honor of Chen Zhongli, a public figure of the Ming Dynasty. Today, the green stones are still there, silently narrating history.
2⃣️The best ancient building in the village is Yongxi Hall, the ancestral hall of the Chen family of Wentang, which served as a lineage of officials. It was a place for clan members to worship ancestors, discuss affairs, resolve disputes, regulate rituals, and hold large-scale events. The hall was built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty (1368—1398) by Chen Shesheng, and was named after the phrase 'Filial sons are never in short supply, may you always be blessed' from the Book of Songs. The hall occupies a vast area and is imposing in its presence, especially known for a pair of stone drums.
The village once had ten famous sights: Flying Dragon in the Morning Sun, Gorge Mountain Facing the Clouds, Drum Tower in Quiet Study, Cangxi Creek Evening Song, River Village Evening Fishing, Algae Pond Moonlit Night, Fragrant Isle Smoke Trees, Purple Stream Peach Waves, West Peak Evening Rain, and Li Mountain Distant Han. Unfortunately, most of them are now difficult to trace.
You will need to drive yourself, just navigate directly to Wentang Village.
Lesser-known attractions in Southern Anhui: Huangshan Qimen Yanshan
Qimen Yanshan is a mountain peak located at the southernmost end of Anhui Province, Baixi Township, Qimen County, west of Huangshan, 80 kilometers east of Huangshan Scenic Area, close to Yixian County in Huali Village, and 50 kilometers west of the national nature reserve Guniujiang.
Yanshan Mountain is only over 160 meters high. When you climb the mountain and look far away, you have a wide view. You can see the distant mountains, nearby water, rural villages, all in sight. Moreover, there are more than 200 days of sea of clouds in a year, and the main peak of the mountain often shows Buddha's light, which is very magical. It is one of the top 100 photography spots in Huangshan City and a good place to watch the sunrise.
Address navigation: Qimen Yanshan, park the car at the parking lot at the foot of the mountain and climb the mountain across the road.
It is divided into front mountain and back mountain. The front mountain road is relatively flat, and the back mountain is steeper. Choose the route that suits you according to the crowd.
Qi Men, a beautiful place with few people in southern Anhui.
First time visiting southern Anhui, didn't climb Huangshan or visit Hongcun scenic area. Qimen's scenery is even more beautiful than I imagined, it's not a famous tourist spot, but people who enjoy leisurely travel will find it very worthwhile.
Recommendation:
1⃣️Fengjiading
Drive up the winding mountain road, the scenery is charming all the way. There is a famous inn at the mountain top, or you can hike down to a waterfall and a stream where there are hardly any people. The natural scenery is beautiful.
2️⃣️Li Kou Town, Li Xi Village
It is an ancient village with rich cultural and natural landscapes, including ancient bridges, ancestral temples, stone tablets, ancient temples, and thousand-year-old camphor trees.
3️⃣️Self-driving recommendation: Qimen Lishan Banshui Homestay
The overall style of the homestay is Huizhou architecture, located in a small village surrounded by mountains and rivers, quiet and peaceful, with a tranquil and idyllic appearance.
Huangshan B&B Recommended Younan Gucun Inn, one person enjoys a beautiful view of the village
~ ~
today to recommend a traditional village in southern Fujian. There are many attractions in Huangshan, and most of them have been commercialized. It is very difficult to find an ancient village that is truly suitable for a holiday. But still I found such a mysterious small village.
Village facilities: 12 rooms in a hotel, a cafe, a tea house, 5 ancestral halls, small bridges, flowing water, millennial ancient trees, ancient buildings, fish, know, black tea.
Accommodation: First of all, I found out that there is a Nanshan Inn here, only to come here. I didn't know anything about the village environment before coming. I wanted to take a Hanfu to take pictures after I came. The inn has a restaurant, which is a taste of Anhui cuisine and wild vegetables. It is very delicious. The inn has 12 rooms and is suitable for couples and families. Of course, lonely people can come here to find peace.
Traffic: The village is in the southwest of Anhui Province, and it takes 100 minutes to drive from Huangshan City. It is the junction of Jingdezhen, Huangshan and Chizhou. Suitable for a family to drive. The environment along the way is also very good.
The environment has ancient walls, creeks, lotus ponds, bamboo forests, rice fields, and Huipai buildings. Great for vacations and taking photos.
Location: Nanshan Inn, Taoyuan Village, Qimen County, Huangshan City, hh/200-300 yuan per night, not expensive.
The little friends who like the ancient village and the mountains and the scenery, there are no ones, so go and experience it.
The original ecological Huipai Street, Huangshan Tumen East Street
turn to the secluded ancient alleys of Huangshan, the old street, looking around in the dilapidated old house, looking for the footprints left by Zeng Guofan. Here is the quiet east bank of Tuen Mun on the banks of the Lijiang River, the moss that grows silently in the corner, the pleated clothes that are drying on the roof terrace, the grandmother who is photographed but shy away from hiding... the life is the most simple and simple The state is so unappared as it is. The favorite is standing on the heights of the old street, overlooking the white walls and tiles that are patchwork, as if telling the story of that era. Suddenly I want to have a rain, and then in such a time, I will read it in the rain.
In this adviser bridge, in addition to inspiring stories of educational significance, you can also play here, and you can experience the tea garden of the famous Huangshan Maofeng at the foot of Xihuang Mountain.
Shan Yejun likes to persuade the scenery on the side of the bridge, like an inexplicable fate like it. I also like to go slowly for sightseeing here. I like to take a stroll along the yak and advise the bridge. It is not only clean air, comfortable environment, but also Maofeng tea that Yamano Jun likes to drink. Under the clear sky, the lush green peaks of Huangshan Mountain appear to be full of vitality in the Qianshan Bridge Tea Garden. I like this feeling full of Zen. I don't know if you like Sun Yat-sen like this feeling?
Here is the yak drop dragon gate scenic spot.
There are "Lover Valley" surrounded by mountains on three sides, the rock wall is steep, Maolin Xiuzhu, spring water raft; "Four stacks of waterfalls, water like white practice straight hanging cliffs, such as snow like jade, twists and turns back, like from heaven "Longmentan" Tanshui Qingbi, deep valleys, strange rocks, ancient woods such as cover, but also Baizhangyan, Rolling Rock Beach and other attractions, is created by nature, "silent poetry, three-dimensional painting".
view This four-fold waterfall is like a rainbow. It is about a year of abundant water. It is like a galaxy in the big place. Its like a galaxy. Its like a thunder, its like a white spot, and its a whisper.
