Top 5 Must-Visit Free Attractions (Tested and No Pitfalls)
1. Jianglang Mountain: Zhejiang’s first World Natural Heritage site truly lives up to its name! The Danxia giant rocks pierce the sky, walking through the “One Line Sky” you can only see a narrow strip of sky above, the cliff’s imposing presence is stunning~ Reminder: free admission does not include Lang Peak; if you want to climb to the top, you can buy a separate ticket. But just exploring the main scenic area is already very photogenic. It’s best to go in the morning to avoid crowds!
2. Quzhou Ancient City Cultural Tourism Area: A perfect 5.0 score attraction is no joke! The Shuitingmen city wall is stunning at dusk, with the sunset dyeing the blue bricks and black tiles golden, every photo looks like an ancient style masterpiece. The night scene on Beimen Street is a must-see, with street food unique to Quzhou everywhere. When tired, sit down and enjoy a bowl of bagged pancake with stinky tofu, it’s so delicious you’ll want to lick the plate!
3. Gengong Buddha Kingdom: Who would have thought tree roots could be carved into such stunning artworks! Root-carved Buddha statues five to six meters tall are lifelike. Walking in the park feels like entering a fantasy world, perfect for family trips. Kids are amazed and quiet the whole time, and photos come out great!
4. Longyou Grottoes: Called the “Ninth Wonder of the World” is no exaggeration! Hidden underground caves show clear chisel marks from ancient craftsmen. The interplay of light and shadow makes you feel like you’re in a tomb raiding movie scene, full of mystery. It’s recommended to follow a guide to hear many interesting legends!
5. Nianbadu: A quieter ancient town than Wuzhen, with more flavor than Xitang! Located at the junction of three provinces, it has 13 dialects and 177 surnames. Walking on the bluestone roads, watching Fengxi stream flow through the town, you can also experience stone mill grinding at a tofu workshop and eat freshly made soy milk ice cream, full of local life charm!
Super Practical Travel Tips (Key to Avoid Pitfalls)
✅ Reservation: Must book in advance! Search “Quzhou Culture and Tourism” on WeChat, click “Scenic Spot Reservation” in the menu to select attractions. Special groups (elderly, disabled, etc.) can get help booking on-site with ID. Tour groups must book one day in advance!
✅ Transportation: High-speed rail is super convenient! 21 minutes direct from Jinhua, 1-2 hours from Hangzhou or Shanghai. It’s recommended to rent a car or carpool between attractions, much more flexible than public transport, saving time to visit more spots!
✅ Accommodation Recommendations: If you want to explore the ancient city, stay in Kecheng District. The Nankong Guantang Fushan West Hotel has strong local flavor and very nice staff. If you want to be close to Jianglang Mountain, choose Jiangshan Yunduan Mijing Hotel, with a rich breakfast and hands-on activities, great value for money!
✅ Food List: Don’t just know about “Three Heads and One Palm”! The scallion steamed buns at Gupu Liangshi are a delicious taste passed down from the Song Dynasty. Hao Zaotou’s Quzhou cuisine is very authentic, fresh and spicy, paired with a bowl of Kaihua clear water fish, it’s irresistibly delicious, about 50 RMB per person to eat until full!
✅ Pitfall Reminder: Free admission covers the main gate ticket only. Scenic area shuttle buses, guided tours, zip lines, and other activities require separate payment, choose as needed. The monkeys at Yaowang Mountain are very clever, be sure to hide your snacks or you’ll get “robbed”!
