The quiet atmosphere makes it a great place for photography and a deeper connection with Udaipur’s royal history. 📍Badi Lake (Jiyan Sagar) While Lake Pichola receives most of the attention, Badi Lake offers a more peaceful experience away from the busy city. Three days is the ideal amount of time to discover Udaipur’s most beautiful places, enjoy its famous sunsets, and experience the charm of this royal city. 📍Day 1: Discover Udaipur’s Royal Heritage Start your trip at the magnificent City Palace, the highlight of Udaipur and one of the largest palace complexes in Rajasthan. Built over several centuries by the rulers of Mewar, the palace combines Rajput and Mughal architectural styles with beautiful courtyards, colorful mosaics, royal rooms, and incredible views over Lake Pichola. Take your time exploring highlights such as Mor Chowk (Peacock Courtyard), the Crystal Gallery, and the palace balconies overlooking the water. I recommend visiting in the morning when the light is beautiful and the crowds are smaller. After exploring the palace, walk through the old city streets nearby. There are countless beautiful places to visit in Jaipur, but none is more recognizable than Hawa Mahal. With its striking pink sandstone façade and hundreds of small windows, this architectural masterpiece has become the symbol of the Pink City. While many visitors stop for a quick photo, stepping inside reveals a fascinating piece of royal history that is well worth exploring. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, Hawa Mahal was designed as an extension of the City Palace. Its unique five story façade features 953 intricately carved windows, known as jharokhas. These allowed the royal women to observe festivals and everyday life in the streets below without being seen, following the traditions of purdah. The clever design wasn’t just beautiful. The countless windows created natural ventilation, allowing cool air to circulate throughout the palace, even during Jaipur’s hot summers. This is how the building earned its name, which translates to “Palace of Winds.” Inside, you’ll find a series of narrow corridors, ramps, small chambers, and balconies leading to different viewpoints. While the interior is relatively simple compared to other palaces in Rajasthan, the real highlight is reaching the upper levels. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views over Jaipur’s bustling old city, the City Palace, and Jantar Mantar. One of my favorite moments was simply watching the streets come alive below. From above, you can see rickshaws weaving through traffic, colorful market stalls, and locals going about their day, giving you a completely different perspective of the Pink City. For one of the best views of Hawa Mahal itself, head to one of the cafés directly across the street. Don’t miss the famous Peacock Gate, one of the city’s most photographed spots. If time allows, continue to Nahargarh Fort, where you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views over the entire Pink City. Sunset here is one of the best experiences in Jaipur. 📍Day 3: Culture, Food & Hidden Gems Start your morning at Panna Meena ka Kund, a beautiful stepwell with perfectly symmetrical staircases that has become one of Jaipur’s most photogenic hidden gems. Agra, a historian's paradise, is home to some of the world's most exquisite architecture. Besides the famous Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and the City of Victory, there is also this little jewel box that brings extreme comfort to those with OCD—the Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah, more commonly known by its nickname, the Little Taj Mahal. It is the tomb of Mir Sāṭiā Beg, an important minister during the reigns of Emperor Akbar and Emperor Jahangir. Due to his significant contributions to the Mughal Empire, he was honored with the title "Pillar of the Empire," and he was also the father-in-law of Emperor Jahangir. To commemorate him, Empress Nur Jahan oversaw the construction of the tomb from 1622 to 1628. This tomb was the first to use semi-precious stone inlay decoration. I recently visited Haldighati Museum, and the place genuinely felt like walking through the pages of Rajasthan's history. The museum beautifully narrates the story of Maharana Pratap through detailed paintings, artifacts, and sculptures. The light-and-sound presentations add a more immersive and emotional layer to the experience. There’s a strong sense of pride and bravery that naturally resonates as you explore the exhibits. What stood out most was how informative yet engaging the museum was.

Recently, I visited Mayra Ki Gufa, one of the hidden historical treasures near Gogunda, Udaipur, Rajasthan. The cave is historically believed to have served as Maharana Pratap's secret armoury and strategic hideout during his resistance against the Mughals, adding immense historical value to the site. What truly sets this place apart is its serene atmosphere and natural surroundings. The rocky Aravalli landscape evokes a feeling of stepping back in time.

From the fort, the view is almost unbelievable — hundreds of blue-toned buildings spreading across the landscape, broken by temples, rooftops, narrow streets and the warm sandstone colours of Rajasthan. 💙 Blue walls. 🧡 Golden sunlight. ❤️ Colourful markets. 🤎 Ancient stone. 💛 Rajasthan everywhere you look. It is much quieter than the fort and worth combining with your visit. 📍 Blue City & Navchokiya One of the best things to do in Jodhpur is simply walk through the blue-painted neighbourhoods. The area around Navchokiya has some of the most photogenic streets, with colourful doors, small temples and houses painted in different shades of blue. 📍 Toorji Ka Jhalra This historic stepwell is tucked into the old city and is one of Jodhpur’s most interesting architectural spots. Our first family trip to India with our four children was amazing thanks to Chauffeur in India. We explored Rajasthan for 13 days with Kamal, our driver, and Praveen Singh, our French-speaking guide, who did everything to make our stay pleasant and comfortable. The car was clean, air-conditioned, and stocked daily with bottled water. Kamal was very punctual, attentive, and gave excellent advice. Praveen Singh was very friendly and always ready to answer our questions. He accompanied us on all our visits, guiding us patiently and thoroughly (which wasn’t always easy with our energetic 10-year-old twins!).
