Muek Man Gai – Premium Hainanese Chicken Rice in the Heart of Phetchaburi
📍Address:🏠 Muek Man Gai is located in Soi Phetchaburi 5. It’s a small chicken rice shop that has only been seriously operating for a few years but has created a phenomenon of long queues even before opening. The menu features Singapore-style chicken rice with a carefully developed recipe, paying attention to every step—from selecting the chicken, cooking the fragrant but light chicken rice that’s not too oily, to plating beautifully in a fine dining style.
The name “Muek Man Gai” is understood to come from the owner’s nickname “Muek” and the fact that the shop sells chicken rice—thus the simple nickname “Muek Man Gai.”
📖 The shop is compact with 2 floors, decorated simply with a focus on functionality. There is an in-store dining area with about 15 tables. Each day, a queue system with tickets is managed at the front of the shop. Those who arrive early (around 9:30–10:00 AM) get the earliest queue numbers because from noon to afternoon, there is always a full waiting line. For takeout, orders can be placed via Lineman, but it’s understood that there are only two order rounds at 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM.
🍗 The signature dish is tender, juicy sous-vide style boiled chicken served with soft chicken liver that many compare to “as smooth as foie gras.” For those who prefer crispy, there is also fried chicken rice with crispy skin. The chicken rice is fragrant with sesame oil, and drizzling it with the rich fermented soybean or ginger chili vinegar sauce makes it even more delicious. The clear chicken bone broth is refreshing and perfectly complements the main dish. (Unfortunately, we arrived around 1:00 PM and the chicken liver was sold out, so we didn’t get to try it. The shop recommends coming before 1:00 PM if you want to enjoy the chicken liver.)
💵 The dishes we ordered were chopped boiled chicken (100 THB) / fried chicken rice (69 THB) / plain chicken rice (25 THB).
🚶♂️ The shop has no parking, but it’s about a 7–10 minute walk from BTS Phaya Thai or Ratchathewi stations. Alternatively, you can park at a nearby car park (turn into Phetchaburi Soi 7, drive to the end of the alley where you’ll see a 7/11, then turn into the alley and drive a bit further; the parking is on the left). With a stamp from the shop, parking costs 20 THB/hour.
