Girona is a city where wishes come true
Just one hour by train🚄 from Barcelona—and you're in another dimension. The hustle and bustle are left behind. This isn't just another city—it's another reality, living and breathing history.
The journey begins with an unmissable landmark: gingerbread houses, whose brightness you can't help but admire. They are separated by the River Onyar and connected by an elegant bridge—the perfect spot for the first photo📸.
From here, the city takes you by the hand and leads you further. Before you know it, you'll find yourself in a labyrinth of narrow streets and staircases. They dictate the route themselves, leading you upward until you reach the ancient fortress wall, where a breathtaking panorama opens up.
We descend and before us lies the majestic Cathedral💒. Its Gothic nave is the widest in the world (23 meters!). It's even wider than St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
And, of course, you can't miss the city's main mascot—the lioness🦁, which is actually a lion. Be sure to perform a fun ritual🍑 to ensure your return.
And now for the main discovery, which happened after the trip. That very image that had lingered in my memory suddenly came to life on the screen. It was here, in these very alleys and squares, that "Perfume" and "Game of Thrones" were filmed!

The monastery became a cultural center in the Middle Ages
The Benedictine monastery of Ripoll was founded in the ninth century by Count Wilfred. It soon became a major cultural center of the High Middle Ages, which is why it stretched until the 12th century, eventually becoming more or less what it is today. The main feature of the monastery is its Romanesque front facade, which dates from the 12th century and is divided into seven horizontal bands, in which biblical, historical and allegorical scenes are depicted. Inside the building, three naves are preserved, whereas there were five previously. The tombs of several counts, including those of Besalú and Barcelona, as well as that of Guifré el Pilós, the founder of the building, are located in the transepts and central nave walls of the church. The cloister has two floors. Construction began in the 12th century, but was later shelved until the end of the 14th century. The upper gallery was completed in the 16th century.

The town of Ripoll is located at the confluence of the Terre and Fraser rivers and was built around the Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria Ripoll, which was founded around the 9th century.
Mediterranean Coast Tours in Spain ~ Girona (Region)
This Romanesque monastery is considered one of the most important monastic centers in Catalonia in the Middle Ages, especially because of their efforts to repopulate. There we must point out a magnificent cloister and church with a remarkable porch dating from the 12th century, carved with interesting reliefs depicting biblical scenes. In addition to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll, we must also mention the Church of San Pere, built in the 12th century, with pre-Romanesque elements, currently housing the Ethnological Museum. Between the 16th and 18th centuries, the main industry of the town was the manufacture of nails and weapons, and it became one of the most important gunsmithing centers in Europe. With the arrival of the railway, the textile industry gathered momentum, and the financial boost is still maintained today.

Charming town by the Pyrenees mountains
Ripoll is a town of a bit over 10,000 inhabitants, located near the Pyrenees mountain chain that separates Spain from France, in the region of Catalonia.
One of its most visited landmarks is the Santa Maria Monastery, built in the year 880, a place that has been a burial site for the counts of Barcelona and other noblemen.
In weekends the narrow streets in downtown welcome an itinerant farmers market, where locals and visitors can buy many kinds of products, from clothes and decoration objects to gourmet food and local cheeses, cold cuts, meats and fruits.
