I came to Battambang to ride the bamboo train, and was told there are two, a new and an old one. So I went to the old-fashioned one. The one that shows up as bamboo train (station 1) on Grab. It was a tuk-tuk from around Soa Khaen Bridge for just under 9,000 riel one way. When I arrived at the platform, there were two men selling tickets, who told me it was $10. I paid in cash, and they set a two-person trolley on the tracks, and the woman who would be the driver brought the engine and set it on the trolley. They provided cushions for the trolley, so I sat on one and we set off. First, we set off heading south. It was making a really loud noise, so loud that even those sitting next to me couldn't hear each other. Eventually, we stopped where we crossed a major road. We changed direction and headed north. We then passed the platform and continued north, going all the way over the railway bridge. We then made a U-turn and headed back to the original platform. When we arrived, the man at the bus stop asked me to give the driver a tip, so I dutifully handed him 4,000 riel. It was $10 for two people, so I thought 10% would be fine.
