Traveling from October to March means there is a chance of the Northern Lights and the beauty of the snow.Be sure to book a snowmobile. The clothes are their own, complete equipment.Husky can be found on Google Maps to book.Be sure to have gloves, a hat, a scarf, and a warm jacket. | Let me share my experience of successfully chasing the aurora! I saw the aurora four times in Lapland on December 4, 5, 8, and 9, 2024. I was so lucky! I took some amazing photos, and I'll share a guide on how to take photos of the aurora later. 📍🌈Location & Time: ⚡12.4 (Aurora Tour) Saariselka-Inari, north of Nellim. I understand this place is a secret base for local aurora tours. ⚡12.4-12.5 Early Morning Northern Light Village, Saariselka. We stayed in an aurora cabin, and we saw the aurora in the resort. ⚡12.8 Northern Light Ranch, Levi. A travel resort in the same series as the previous glass cabin. We played at the husky farm during the day, and when we received an aurora alert at night, we went straight there, away from the light pollution in Levi. ⚡12.9 Near Levi Design Hotel. We also received an alert at night. But since we saw the aurora late yesterday, we didn't go out and saw the aurora with the naked eye in the dark woods near the hotel. 🈯The aurora apps we used are · Northern Lights Alert (black and green) · Aurora (black and purple) But‼️these apps are not visible to the naked eye. We frequently saw the aurora this week, and there are some commonalities. 1️⃣-You can see many stars on a clear day. 2️⃣-The sun must be completely set during the polar night. Go out after 8 pm. 3️⃣-Stay away from light sources such as houses and roads, 5-10 km is enough. The resorts in Lapland, Finland, are small towns and resorts with no skyscrapers. 4️⃣-The aurora appeared in the northern sky on these four days. Special Note⚡📳On December 4, the first day, the aurora app did not alert us. The hotel staff was also not optimistic. The weather forecast was cloudy, but there were many stars in the sky in Saariselka that day! 👉Since we had no experience and were afraid we wouldn't have another chance, we signed up for a €149 aurora tour at 5 pm. I absolutely love Finland! I could go back again and again and never get tired of it! ❄️ Winter in Finland is a healing, snow-covered wonderland—thick snow blankets everything, and the atmosphere is amazing when it snows. The tranquility melts away all your worries! Watching the snowflakes gently fall is so soothing; it's like time stands still, chilling you to the point where even your soul finds peace. 🤍 The highlight—the aurora borealis tour—was absolutely magical! Sitting in the snow-covered landscape, watching the aurora dance in the sky, the peace was almost lo-fi-like; it instantly reset all my worries! Although I only saw a faint aurora that night (due to two days of heavy snow, my poor photography skills, and not being a professional photographer), my excitement was off the charts! After traveling to Finland to see the aurora, I wish I'd known about this beforehand... Actual accommodation route👇 2 nights in Saariselkä → 1 night at Lake Inari → 2 nights in Ivalo Among them, the clearest view was at Lake Inari (the northernmost of the places we stayed). Of course, it depends on the weather, but the further north you go, the easier it is to see the aurora. In fact, On the day we couldn't see it in Saariselkä, people staying at Lake Inari said they did see it. And another important thing👇 "An environment where you can wait." It's really impossible to tell when the aurora will appear. We stayed at 📍Lake Inari Mobile Cabins A cabin on the lake ・Waiting while taking naps ・Going outside as soon as the opportunity arose The result... We saw the brightest aurora around 3 AM✨ Rather than waiting outside for just 2-3 hours like on tours, it's important to have an environment where you can wait overnight for the opportunity. We spent our evenings at Teerenpesä or Panimo, where the vibe is all about craft beers, karaoke, and live local bands. It’s a great way to meet the locals and other travelers without the pretension of the bigger resorts. It’s a very grounded, authentic way to end the day. If you want to experience how Finns actually celebrate a day on the fells, this is it. It’s cozy, it’s friendly, and the drinks are cold!"
