Kamae, Saiki City, Oita Prefecture. A quiet town with nothing but the sea and a port. 🌊 Located in such a place is the minshuku "Ajiami," a place I return to again and again. During spiny lobster season (through December), this is the place to be. 🦞 The lobster meat is large and plump, and the tempura is crispy. 🍤 Each dish is carefully prepared, and while it's not flashy, it's incredibly satisfying. ❤️ Even after the lobster season is over, the fish here is truly delicious. A one-night stay with two meals, including spiny lobster, costs ¥13,000. Normally, it's ¥7,500. This is more than enough. The inn operates at a reasonable pace, and only when the landlady is in good health. The slightly embarrassed owner brings the food to you, which is a hallmark of this inn. ☺️ Their unpretentious interactions are comforting. ♪ The facilities are bare bones. No Wi-Fi, towels, or yukata provided. The bath and toilet are shared. But the ocean is right in front of you. I'd heard there was a genre of ramen called Saeki Ramen in Oita Prefecture, so I was curious to know what it was like. The restaurant we visited this time was Ramen Hakuryu. It's located in front of JR Saiki Station and is marked by an orange building. There was a ticket machine at the entrance, and we purchased the recommended NEO Saeki Ramen and the NEO Saeki Arabushi Ramen. The restaurant has eight seats at the counter and about ten tables. After a while, our ramen was ready. With a pork bone base and a punchy garlic and pepper flavor, the crispy bean sprouts and chewy medium-thick noodles were addictive, and we ate it all in one go! The NEO Saeki Arabushi Ramen has a gorgeous aroma and dashi from the bonito flakes, giving it a mellow flavor that's quite different from the NEO Saeki Ramen. This popular restaurant also had a stall at Tokyo Ramen Festa 24. If you're planning a trip to southern Oita Prefecture, be sure to try their Saeki Ramen. The lunch I was looking forward to was at Rest House Usagi-tei in Kamae, Saiki City. We ordered: A Yellowtail Set Meal A Sea Urchin & Ryukyu Rice Bowl (Ryukyu is a local Oita dish made of fish fillets marinated in soy sauce). The Yellowtail Set Meal was so impressive I was surprised! It included simmered yellowtail, grilled salted collar, sashimi, a small side dish, and horse mackerel miso soup. The simmered yellowtail in particular was plump and well-seasoned, and it paired perfectly with the rice. The Sea Urchin & Ryukyu Rice Bowl The sweet sea urchin and ryukyu cucumber were dipped in a raw egg, giving the bowl an even richer flavor. The menu offers a wide variety of seafood set meals, including seafood bowls and sashimi, meat set meals like chicken nanban, omelet rice, and udon noodles, so it seems like it would appeal to people of all ages. The terrace seating sounds great while listening to the sound of the waves! By the way, pets are allowed on the terrace. The Meoto Iwa Rocks, tied together with a 2-ton shimenawa rope, are known as a famous sunrise spot. In early March and early October, you can see the sun rising between the rocks! Every year on the second Sunday of December, the shimenawa rope is replaced with a new one, and the rocks are lit up during the New Year holidays. A promenade has been built right up to the Meoto Iwa Rocks, so you can get a close-up look at Japan's longest shimenawa rope! This observation park, located halfway up Mt. Takahira, is located at an altitude of 300 meters and offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean! !! It features a walking path, a cycling road, grass skiing, and a paragliding launch and landing area. The Nojigiku Festival is held here in late autumn. It also has a campground, log cabins, and a day-use tent sauna, so please inquire if you're interested. It was a wonderful day to visit, with the sky and ocean shining brightly!
