I went on a coffee farm tour around Pereira. Visiting a coffee farm was one of the main purposes of this trip, so I was thrilled to see the entire process from coffee cherries to the final drink with my own eyes. Here’s a quick overview of the tour: Farm ☕️ Finca el Ocaso Salento Price 💰 1.5-hour course: 60,000 COP 3-hour course: 120,000 COP Language 👄 Spanish, English Access 🏃♀️ About 1 hour on foot 15 minutes by jeep I took the 3-hour course. It seems that the 3-hour course includes more time for coffee tasting in addition to explanations about the process of turning coffee cherries into beans. So, if you’re not particularly interested in tasting, the 1-hour course might be sufficient 🤔 Apparently, about 90% of the coffee harvested in Colombian farms is exported (as it sells for a higher price), while the remaining 10% is consumed domestically. As a result, lower-quality, bitter beans are commonly distributed within the country, and locals tend to drink bitter coffee with lots of sugar. However, due to the recent increase in tourists and the rise of specialty coffee cafes within Colombia, this trend seems to be gradually changing. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered any questions, so feel free to ask if you’re curious about anything!
