After a friend's recommendation, I took my kids there for three days last summer vacation and was really satisfied! Day 1: Arrived by high-speed train at noon, checked into Courtyard by Marriott and rested. In the evening, went to the county town for dinner and watched the "Zuo Mei" performance at Bird's Nest. Right across is the Sanjiang Drum Tower, a convenient spot to check out. Day 2: In the morning, visited Buyang Xianren Mountain Scenic Area. The tea garden at the top of the mountain is perfect for photos. You can pay to pick tea, and if you have time, you can even try tea frying. The kids had a blast. In the afternoon, went to Chengyang Eight Villages to see the distinctive ethnic minority drum towers and residences. We also rented ethnic costumes for the kids to take photos, making the experience even more immersive. Day 3: Visited Sanjiang Yiyang Wind and Rain Bridge. It would be even more photogenic if lit up at night. The only minor issue was transportation inconvenience. We couldn't get a ride from Xianren Mountain to Eight Villages, but luckily we had the driver's phone number in advance. We took a bus from Eight Villages back to the county town. Overall, three days and two nights was just right. The locals we met were super friendly, and there was none of the price gouging you find at popular tourist spots. Truly a hidden gem for family trips!

But when the car pulled up to the hotel entrance, I was stunned—this isn’t just a Courtyard Marriott, it’s clearly a Dong drum tower! The wooden exterior, the layered flying eaves, all blend perfectly with the view of Chengyang Eight Villages right across. The front desk clerk wore traditional Dong indigo clothing and mentioned casually when handing me the room card, “There’s a Dong grand song performance by the river tonight.” I didn’t think much of it at the time, but it turned out to be amazing. 🛏️ The “Dong-style” little touches in the room Opening the door to the room, the first thing I noticed was the pleasant wood scent—not the harsh smell of decoration, but a faint fragrance from real wood.
