Seville, A Wedding on a Rainy Afternoon
At the Cathedral of Santa Maria Magdalena
On an afternoon in Seville, as thin raindrops drenched the alley walls, I happened to pass by this old cathedral.
Quiet footsteps of people drifted beneath the pale yellow Baroque entrance, and soft music drifted through the cracks in the door. Curious, I paused, and someone smiled and beckoned, "There's a wedding happening here today."
I hesitated for a moment, but the rain-soaked streets and the tranquil atmosphere of the cathedral drew me in. And so, without any plans, I entered into a sacred moment for a Spanish couple, lasting an hour and a half.
Today was a blessed occasion, a moment where two lives intersected. The groom's clear gaze, the bride's calm steps, and the choir's voices resonated through the dome, slowly rising.
Every time a prayer was recited, people respectfully observed. I bowed my head, and the gentle melody of the orchestra, blending with the sound of the Seville rain, seemed to bless the couple's new path.
The ceremony lasted over an hour, but rather than being tedious, I felt the power of the ritual, designed to linger and linger. Only then did I realize that a wedding in this land isn't just a place for two people to exchange vows; it's a ceremony where family, village, faith, neighbors, and history witness the moment together.
As I stepped outside the cathedral, the rain had eased slightly. The sculptures on the golden porch gazed at me calmly, as if repeating the blessing I'd just heard.
I folded my umbrella and stood for a moment.
How could a traveler's chance encounter lead to such a scene of blessing?
Seville was a city that always offered unexpected gifts.
