Having visited Fukuoka multiple times, I recently discovered a unique temple called "Nanzoin" in the suburbs of Fukuoka after watching the Korean variety show "My Little Old Boy." The most famous feature of the temple is the "Shakyamuni Nirvana Buddha Statue," which is said to be the world's largest bronze statue, as tall as the Statue of Liberty in New York. The Buddha's hand is tied with five-colored ribbons that extend to the offering table in front. Visitors can hold the ribbons, symbolically connecting directly with the Buddha to convey their wishes. In addition to this statue, there is a sacred tree near the "Fudo Myo-o" statue, which contains a carved Buddha figure. On the other side, a mountain path leads to a small waterfall and the source of a spring, offering a spiritually cleansing journey that is highly recommended. Furthermore, on the way to "Nanzoin," you will pass "Melody Bridge." On both sides of the bridge, there are iron plates resembling xylophones. You can find wooden sticks at the front and back of the bridge to strike the plates, playing two iconic Japanese children's songs: "Medaka no Gakkou" and "Furusato." The sound is delightfully crisp. ⏰ Time Required: 1 hour 🚃 Transportation: Take the train from JR Hakata Station to "Kido Nanzoin-mae" Station, a 26-minute ride (JPY 450). After exiting the station, turn left, cross "Melody Bridge," and walk up the mountain on the opposite side.
