The Three Cities of Malta
The Three Cities of Malta, consisting of the ancient towns of Senglea, Vittoriosa, and Cospicua, are located opposite the capital Valletta. They serve as the cradle of Maltese history and formed a crucial defensive line during the rule of the Knights, with historical sites even older than those in Valletta.

Stunning Views across to Valletta: from a secret beach in Birgu
🛕Birgu (aka Vittoriosa) is a destination to visit during your stay in Malta
🕌⛱As a fortified city on the southern side of Valletta, there is a secret beach in Birgu where you can admire the capital from a different prospective, including the Upper Barrakka Gardens and Cruse ships
🚢🛫It forms a perfect picture with small colourful Maltese boats in the Grand Harbour and the helicopter in the blue sky
📌Tips 1: To access the secret beach you need to walk along Birgu waterfront towards Fort St Angelo - instead of going into the entrance gate, keep walking in parallel through some rough steps ...
🏊♀️Tips 2: You can prepare the kit and swim there like locals!

Sunshine, Pizza, and Island Views: Three Days in Malta 🇲🇹
Dreaming of the Mediterranean? 🏖️ Here’s how to soak up Valletta and Malta’s timeless vibes! The combo of sunlit coastlines and old city streets is enough to knock your socks off! Here are my recommendations for three days exploring the island:
1️⃣ Valletta Old Town
Lose yourself in winding streets lined with golden stone architecture. Grab coffee at Merchant St and don’t skip St. John’s Co-Cathedral (Triq San Gwann, Valletta, open 9:30AM–4:30PM Mon–Sat).
2️⃣ Mdina
The “Silent City” hits every medieval fantasy! Walk the ramparts at sunset for panoramic Malta views.Main Gate: Mdina, open 24 hrs. It’s better to arrive early to enjoy the empty streets and ambient atmosphere!
3️⃣ The Three Cities
Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua. Feels untouched by time! Ferry from Valletta runs every 30 min from Lascaris Wharf (8AM–7PM). Spend an afternoon pub-hopping and snapping those harbor pics.
4️⃣ Gozo
Start your day early and explore the Maltese island of Gozo! It’s easy to take a ferry from Valetta and it takes about 45 minutes. Once on Gozo you can hop on a bus to Victoria and start exploring the old citadel!
Travel hack: Malta buses are cheap and frequent, but allow for extra time, especially if traveling to the airport. Traffic can get insane on the island.
🏨 Where to Stay: Mr. Todd Hotel is located in the heart of Sliema, just a five minute ferry ride from Valetta and located on the airport bus route.
🍝 Where to Eat:
🥪 Focacceria Dal Pani
🍝 Pastaus Restaurant
🍕 Marrobbio (Sliema)
☕️ Blooms Cafe (Gozo)

St. Lawrence's Church - The largest of 12
#falladventures
#familytravel
#travel
January 2024- Founded in 1090, the Collegiate Church dedicated to Saint Lawrence is the second oldest parish in the Maltese Islands. In 1530 it was erected as a convent church of the Order of St. John but in 1532 a fire destroyed it. In 1681 the foundation stone of the present church was laid, by Gafà. During the Second World War various parts of the church were destroyed and rebuilt later.
Inside there are numerous works, the altarpiece by Mattia Preti that represents the tragedy of the martyrdom of San Lorenzo in dark tones.
Even the choir benches are fine in European walnut wood with gilding that accompanies the inlay of details.
Place of honor for the statue of San Lorenzo that takes up the Spanish tradition of covering statues with brocade vestments, in the statue in question also with precious stones, the silver pedestal recalls the Baroque style, completes the whole a walnut and ebony platform inlaid with orange wood.
Recommended visit with free offer.

Clearly a lot of money has been spent on restoring this wonderful , old waterside building. And clearly the work has not yet finished, so I can only judge it by what I saw.
I think the reviews here are fair. The staff are rude, the exhibits are poor in quality, lighting and explanations
In addition, there is no obvious path to follow to get the maximum amount of information from you visit. You have to wander aimlessly to try and make some sense of it all
The worst problem was getting out. Your "tour" ends on the top floor. To get out, a bossy woman points you to a rickety, open staircase made of scaffold poles. My wife suffers from vertigo, and found it frightening. Only when were got to the bottom did someone tell us there was a liff - but that was never offered to us
You exit through a "shipyard" experience, complete with noise and light effects, which is very good. The downside is that the commentary is in Maltese, and hence subtitles are projected onto the bare block walls, and these are very difficult to read
All in all, it was not what I had expected. Perhaps by the time the building work is complete, then they will have got their act together

Vittoriosa Waterfront was amazing. Beautiful views of the Harbour and boats, yachts etc. The dining options are endless. We did not eat there but sat outside a harbourside bar and enjoyed a few 2 for 1 Cocktails. Idyllic.
We took one of the small private Gondolas across (around 10 minutes) and chose the ferry to return to Valletta.
We got the water taxi from Valletta then walked around the city and had a wander right up the waterfront. The views across the harbour to Senglea were lovely and the view from the end of the harbour to Valletta were beautiful. There were some enormous boats moored along the waterfront and it was lined with shops and restaurants.

It’s odd as there was so little context that I don’t really know the reality of what they did. This seemed to be getting better but then we were told the building will be closing in 15 minutes and rushed out with time to spare. The first 3/4 of the building makes me think they didn’t really know what to put in there as there is no context, just rooms and an assortment of unrelated paintings. The answers may be at the end, but make sure you have plenty of time as 15 minutes doesn’t equal 15 minutes.

Entry to Fort St Angelo was Euro 6 for Senior citizens( 60 + Age).Fort St Angelo was originally built in the medieval period as a castle called the Castrum Maris . It was rebuilt by the Order of Saint John as a bastioned fort called Fort Saint Angelo between the 1530s and the 1560s, and it is best known for its role as the Order's headquarters during the Great Siege of Malta of 1565.In the 1690s, engineer Carlos de Grunenbergh reconstructed the fort, equipping it with four batteries of cannons, giving it its current appearance. From 1800 to 1979, during British rule, the fort was classified as a stone ship and renamed HMS Egmont and later HMS St. Angelo.Due to Malta’s strategic location, Fort St. Angelo served as the headquarters of the Royal Navy’s Mediterranean Fleet during World War II.Severely damaged during World War II, the fort was later restored and remains an essential part of Malta’s maritime heritage. The View of the Grand Harbour and Valletta from the fort is awesome and was at the right place at the right time to see the Norwegian cruise ship," Norwegian Epic" dock into Valletta Harbour.Visited the Fort museum which continuously screens the history and importance of Fort St Angelo on a giant indoor screen. At 1200 hrs got to hear the blasting of the canon shot from the " Saluting Battery" locale situated a floor below upper Barrakka garden

Malta’s Quiet Corners: Where Time Slows Down 🌅🇲🇹
#hellohalloween
While Malta is famous for its bustling fortresses and postcard-perfect coastlines, some of my favorite moments came from stumbling into peaceful corners far from the crowds. Places where the sea seems to whisper and history breathes quietly.
Think of narrow stone alleyways in Mdina with only the echo of your own footsteps… 🌙
Or secluded viewpoints on Gozo, where cliffs drop into crashing turquoise waves… 🌊
Or tiny chapels tucked between fields, surrounded by silence and golden limestone.
One sunrise, I found myself alone on a coastal path with the scent of wild herbs and a soft breeze as the sun slowly lit up the horizon — just pure calm. 🌄✨
📍 A few spots to search for serenity
· Hidden alleys of Mdina and Vittoriosa
· Gozo’s quiet hilltop villages
· Rocky inlets near Marsaskala & Xlendi
· Countryside lanes lined with prickly pears
🚍 Getting around
Public transport can take you to most towns, but the real quiet corners often appear once you wander away on foot.
Whether you love photography, meditation, or simply disconnecting from daily noise, Malta’s peaceful places are all around — waiting just a few steps off the beaten track. 🌿🧘♀️

Golden Labyrinths – The Alleys of Malta 🌞🏛️
#hellohalloween
Wandering through Malta’s narrow golden alleys feels like stepping into another world. The warm limestone walls seem to glow under the Mediterranean sun, while vivid blue doors, iron balconies, and potted flowers bring life to every corner. 🌿
Each turn reveals something new — a quiet chapel, a cat sunbathing on a step, or a glimpse of the sea between the houses. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and even getting lost feels like part of the adventure. 🐾
📍 Where: Mdina, Valletta, and Vittoriosa all have beautifully preserved alleys
🕰️ Tip: Visit early morning or late afternoon for the softest light and magical photos. ✨

The real-life King's Landing is right in Malta
Malta, this small Mediterranean island, is like a living history book, with every stone telling an epic story.
If you're tired of the usual European tours, come here and experience seven thousand years of time washing over!
"Time-travel" version of Malta's highlights route:
1️⃣ The Soul of the Knights: Valletta & The Three Cities
St. John's Co-Cathedral: Don’t be discouraged by the lines, buy tickets in advance! Here you’ll find Caravaggio’s masterpiece "The Beheading of Saint John." The best part is the short film next door that shows just how "no zuo no die" this genius painter was—watch it first, then look at the painting, and you’ll see it in a whole new light!
Grandmaster's Palace: A paradise for weapon enthusiasts! See the exquisite armor and weapons of the Knights of St. John and feel the era of knights and horses.
Fort St. Angelo: The best viewpoint! Standing here, you can see The Three Cities and Valletta all at once. The Mediterranean breeze blows by, and you can almost hear the knights’ horns.
2️⃣ Prehistoric Code: Ħaġar Qim Temples
After visiting the Blue Grotto, don’t leave right away! A half-hour walk will take you to this prehistoric temple. Watch a 4D film to learn the background, then step into the ruins from thousands of years ago. When the broken walls frame the deep blue sea, the feeling of time and space overlapping will give you goosebumps.
3️⃣ Tranquil Ancient City: Mdina & Dingli Cliffs
Step into the "Silent City" Mdina, where the outside world’s noise instantly fades away. Stroll through the alleys and feel the peace of the Middle Ages. Finally, take a taxi to Dingli Cliffs and watch a magnificent sunset at the edge of the world.
Malta, half is the deep blue sea, half is the golden ancient city.

A Fabulous Fort
Fort Saint Angelo, commanding the tip of Vittoriosa in Malta’s Grand Harbour, is a centuries-old stronghold with roots dating back to the medieval period. Once a key fortress of the Knights of St. John during the Great Siege of 1565, it later played an important role under British colonial rule, serving as a naval base and headquarters for the Royal Navy in the Mediterranean. Today, visitors can explore its bastions, admire sweeping harbor views, and step into the layers of history that shaped Malta’s maritime legacy.

🌙 Night walk along the stone path, an evening walk in Malta ✨
🌇 A view that can only be seen after the sun sets
Malta's evenings become more beautiful as the sun sets. Whether it's a coastal town or a hilltop town, warm orange lights spread through every alley as the sun sets. The streets that were busy during the day become quiet, and only the lights of small shops and the laughter of outdoor cafes remain. 🌆🪟🕯️
⠀
⸻
⠀
🚶 The feeling of walking on stone paths and stairs
Most roads in Malta are made of stone, so every time you walk, a unique, quiet sound is transmitted to your feet. As you walk along the walls of old buildings, you realize that time is passing slowly. The sea view that unfolds as you climb the stairs is a bonus. 🏛️🍃🌌
⠀
⸻
⠀
🍷 A day that ends with a glass
After a walk, I sit down at a small wine bar at the end of the alley and slowly savor the wine. I exchange brief greetings with people passing by, and wrap up the day by looking at the ivy vines blowing in the wind. It’s a moment that’s enough without saying a word 🧀🍷🪴
⠀
⸻
⠀
🌬 Emotions that linger in the night air
The night air in Malta is refreshing and quiet. This feeling that sinks deep into your heart without the noise of the city is probably the real charm of traveling. Moments like this are the ones that are remembered more vividly than during the day.

At the end of a quiet alley, the sound of a guitar being strummed can be heard. People gather around the performer one by one and start singing and dancing together. This atmosphere, where people naturally laugh and share rhythm with strangers, goes beyond a simple festival and remains as a touching experience. 🎸🕺🎵

A tranquil harbor bathed in sunset hues, an evening stroll in Malta's Birgu
🛥️ The serene harbor town, Birgu
Located slightly away from Malta's bustling hubs like Valletta and Sliema, Birgu is a harbor town that can be reached quickly by car. Its quiet and calm atmosphere offers a stark contrast to the busy tourist spots. The picturesque view of old stone buildings and gentle waves feels like a scene straight out of a movie.
⸻
🌇 Walking along the sunset-lit path
Birgu becomes even more enchanting in the evening. As the sun sets slowly and the water turns a warm orange hue, the entire harbor transforms into a cozy and inviting space. Walking along the promenade, the soft sound of waves carried by the breeze lingers in your ears. It's a peaceful time to unwind and reflect at the end of the day.
