As Xinjiang's first InterContinental hotel, it only opened last July. I made a special trip to Yining to check it out, staying for three days and two nights. When I left, I had only one thought in my mind: next time I come to Xinjiang, I'll stay here again. - 🏨Stunningly beautiful🤩 Just like most people's impression of Xinjiang, the InterContinental Yining is absolutely stunning. Stepping through the gate, sunlight filters through the gaps in the grapevine-shaped corridors, creating dappled light and shadow, like walking in a Xinjiang family's courtyard. At night, the courtyard during blue hour is so beautiful it looks like it's been filtered. The hotel has brought the essence of Yili's courtyards, a multi-ethnic art gallery, grapevine shadows, and the Yili blue to the hotel; entering the lobby feels like browsing an art exhibition. - 🛏️Guest Rooms Rooms start from 48 square meters, and all rooms face the Yili River. Higher floors offer views of the Tianshan Mountains. I stayed in a deluxe room, and the moment I opened the door, I was struck by the framed view of the snow-capped mountains. You have to try the Xinjiang specialty stalls, with freshly baked naan bread and buns + Xinjiang salty milk tea, and freshly squeezed cantaloupe juice (even though I don't like cantaloupe, I drank two cups every day). 2⃣️Cai Feng Lou Chinese Restaurant Of course, there's also the InterContinental's signature Chinese restaurant, specializing in Cantonese and Xinjiang fusion cuisine. The afternoon tea in the lobby lounge is also worth trying; on a clear day, the window seats offer a view of the Tianshan Mountains. - 🚗What to do around the hotel? The hotel is located in Yining city center, making it convenient to visit Kazanchi and Liuxing Street. Kazanchi Folk Tourism Area – a Uyghur ethnic minority area (10-minute taxi ride); Liuxing Street – the Liuxing Street mentioned in the song "Apple Fragrance"! (15-minute taxi ride) Sayram Lake – The Last Tear of the Atlantic (approximately 2 hours by chartered car) Other options: Lavender Manor (most beautiful at sunset, several levels more beautiful than during the day) Guozigou Bridge (the number one scenic spot in Yili, a giant bridge + snow-capped mountains + forest) Huocheng Lavender Fields (blooming in June) 📒My recommended 2-day, 1-night leisurely itinerary Day 1: Arrive at the hotel → Have a Xinjiang meal at the hotel for lunch → Afternoon visit Kazanchi Folk Village (a blue town, absolutely stunning for photos) → Evening return to the hotel rooftop bar for a drink and to watch the sunset Day 2: Wake up early for breakfast → Rent a car for 1.5 hours to Sayram Lake (a must-do is driving around the lake!) → Afternoon return to Yining, stopping by Liuxing Street for food and drinks (handmade ice cream + baked buns) → Evening flight or stay another night If you want to stay two nights: On the second day, you can go to Zhaosu to see the Tianma (heavenly horses), or drive the Yizhao Highway (one of the most beautiful highways in Xinjiang). - If you're planning a trip along the Northern Xinjiang loop, or simply want to find a place to completely relax and admire the snow-capped mountains, this is worth a special flight. After all, some hotels are for staying in, while others are places you'll want to stay and never want to leave.

A must-visit place in Shache, with many attractions such as Shache Ancient City and the Ancient Palace, but the official name is Shache Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo Park. Transportation mainly relies on buses or taxis. The attraction is full of Western Regions' distinctive charm. Personally, I feel this is like a palace. Besides the unique architecture, there are many museums and exhibition halls that can be savored for half a day. The park also features performances like singing, dancing, and acrobatics, so you won’t get bored while visiting. We arrived in Urumqi on the 5th 6th Yining - Arrive in Yining by high-speed train at 2 PM, check in at a guesthouse near Liuxing Street (Muzi Family Guesthouse Yining Airport Branch), early check-in available. - After a short rest, explore and eat along Yining Liuxing Street (Kazanchi is not recommended due to road construction). - Food tips: Some shops may be closed during the Spring Festival, it is recommended to randomly find small restaurants to try. - Supplies: Prepare supplies for the two-day trip to Sayram Lake and Shata (no return to the city during these two days, meals are available inside the scenic spots); buy bread, instant noodles, and other portable breakfasts in advance as the itinerary starts early and you cannot catch the hotel breakfast at 9 AM; you can have a simple lunch in the scenic area. 7th Sayram Lake (Day 1) - Itinerary logic: Sayram Lake has many scenic spots and is greatly affected by weather. It is recommended to stay at the Sayram Lake Shuiyunshan Hotel for easy rest and to return to the scenic area to watch the stars at night. - Travel strategy: Based on traffic jams during the Dragon Boat Festival, depart at 7 AM, about 2 hours drive (arrive at 9 AM); choose clockwise self-driving (to avoid the counterclockwise congestion of tour buses/shuttle buses and better lighting for photos). - Core spots: - Songshutou: The highest point of Sayram Lake, the only place to overlook the entire lake, prone to traffic jams so prioritize visiting; self-drive 20 km from the east gate, then a 45-minute walk on the boardwalk to the halfway slope (no need to climb to the top), allow 2 hours for visiting. - Other check-in points: Film City (north gate direction), Waterside Beach (to see swans), Ten-Mile Dam/Santai Grassland/Moon Bay (for sunset and wedding photos). - Flexible arrangement: If it rains or you feel tired in the afternoon, return to the hotel to rest and go back to the scenic area at night to watch the stars. 8th Sayram Lake (Day 2) → Shata - Sayram Lake sunrise: Enter from the old east gate, arrive at Kele Yongzhu at 7:00 to watch the sunrise; then visit Dianjiangtai to Waterside Beach, revisit favorite spots as you like, return to the hotel for breakfast after 9 AM. - Transfer to Shata: Pass Guozigou Bridge, visit the Lavender Manor, then head to Shata (lunch on the way, mainly travel time in the afternoon). 9th Shata - Scenic area features: The most unique and polarized scenic area in Ili, the only place in Ili to see snow-capped mountains, mainly hiking, very photogenic; but travel experience can be affected by queues, shuttle buses, weather, and road conditions. It is recommended to stay at the entrance of the scenic area. - Travel strategy: Depart early to avoid queues (most groups arrive in the afternoon); do not choose horseback riding (long queues and long routes), save energy by hiking to House No. 1, adjust itinerary based on stamina. - Notes: High altitude but no altitude sickness, low temperature requires more clothing; rain is very likely in the afternoon, be sure to bring raincoat and shoe covers. 10th Kalajun → Bagua City - Scenic area choice: Kalajun Grassland is vast, focus on the essence of the east area (hiking + relaxing, fewer people than Nalati, less commercialized, with three-dimensional and spectacular landscapes). - Itinerary plan: - Depart at 7:30, try to arrive at the self-driving entrance by 8:30 (early arrival means no staff control). - Plan A (early arrival): Drive directly to Falcon Platform (normally need to take shuttle bus from Flower Platform), visit Flower Platform on the way back (Falcon Platform includes the core views of Flower Platform). - Plan B (late arrival): If you need to take the shuttle bus, experience the magic carpet and grass skiing at Flower Platform; hike only 1 km to the cliff swing and return the same way, then take the shuttle bus to Falcon Platform. - Core hike: From Falcon Platform to Falcon Platform viewing platform, get off and turn right to see the flower sea, then go down and turn left towards the horse team direction to reach the spruce forest (few people, beautiful scenery, good for relaxing). - Return and nightlife: On the way back, self-drive to check in near the "Sacred Tree Forest" and "Flower Sea Yaochi"; after resting at the hotel, go to Bagua City to explore and eat, watch the Bagua City Night Show.
