Shaxian Inn, Mountain Sparrow Inn|||We stayed at Mountain Sparrow Inn in Dongmen Ancient Street, Shaxian, on the recommendation of a friend.
Before we even arrived in Shaxian, the lovely lady at the front desk of Mountain Sparrow called to ask about parking and other matters, and added me on WeChat. So thoughtful. Friends from out of town can park their cars in the playground behind the inn, which is very convenient and free.
Mountain Sparrow Inn is located in the center of Dongmen Ancient Street, Shaxian. The entrance is right on Dongmen Ancient Street, which has become a must-see for tourists from out of town. The ancient street has everything you could want to eat, play, and photograph. The inn is about 100 meters across the street from the Shaxi River, where you can enjoy the ever-changing light show and water curtain movie at night. From the inn, walk about 300 meters along Binhe Road to the city center of Shaxian, where many famous traditional Shaxian snacks are located near Chiwei Lane, such as Liji Snacks. The snack stalls in Chiwei Lane offer dozens of unique and authentic Shaxian snacks such as shumai, taro dumplings, dried tofu, and rice jelly, which you can enjoy to your heart's content.
In the afternoon, we walked to Qu Lane No. 1 Teahouse for afternoon tea; in the evening, we went to Half Acre of Flower Field for Western food; at dusk, we walked to the other side of the river and walked the plank road and glass plank road, where we could see the beautiful Shaxi River and the beautiful night view of Shaxi.
Mountain Sparrow Inn is a renovation of two large ancient houses that are decades old, with a perfect blend of classical and modern styles. The rooms have modern smart bathrooms, which are really nice to use. The rooms are very spacious and not at all oppressive. Mountain Sparrow also prepared afternoon tea and fresh fruit for us; breakfast was also very rich, with eggs, sweet potato porridge, soy milk, fruit, etc.
The short two-day trip to Shaxian went by in a flash. When I have time, I will come back to Shaxian and stay at Mountain Sparrow Inn again.

Shaxian District is part of Sanming City in Fujian Province, located in central Fujian Province, downstream of the Shaxi River. Shaxian snacks have a long history, originating from the Central Plains Yellow River Basin Chinese food culture. Shaxian snacks are a noodle culture brought by Hakka immigrants over 1,000 years ago, blending with the rice culture of the Minyue people in Sanming, Fujian. Famous snacks include wontons, shumai, meat buns, rice jelly, joy cakes, mixed noodles, steamed dumplings, sour and spicy noodles, fried noodles, cold grass soup, loach soup, taro noodles, etc.

📝 Tips:
1. Famous tourist attractions in Shaxian include Shuimei Tulou, Xixia Village, Yubang Village, Songbaiyan, Dayoushan, and Taojinshan.
2. Shaxian is small, with major attractions concentrated on both sides of the Shaxi River. The Ningcui Pavilion opposite the suspension bridge, which houses the Shaxian Museum, is highly recommended.
3. The old train station in Shaxian is an open-air museum, perfect for taking photos.
4. Bancuo Alley is the most famous snack street in Shaxian, with several well-known biscuit shops. The biscuits are small, with fillings like preserved vegetable meat, red bean paste, and green onion. They are best eaten fresh out of the oven, crispy on the outside and fragrant on the inside. Eating two or three at a time is enough to fill you up.
5. Shaxian's famous shumai has a shiny, resilient outer skin when steamed, filled with vermicelli and cabbage meat filling. Unlike shumai from other places, it has a texture similar to shrimp dumplings.

A Day Trip in Shaxian | Budget-Friendly Leisurely Stroll Edition
🌟Take a taxi from Sanming North to - A Dog's Shao Mai - Railway Park (those who want to ride the mini train should search for tips first) Jia Lan Shao Mai - Luo Lan Shaobing - Qu Alley - Qifeng Diecui (take a taxi to) Temple Gate Flat Meat - Jia Lan Shao Mai (specially went to buy duck legs to take away haha) - Suspension Bridge (known as the Arc de Triomphe of Shaxian) - Sat nearby for a long time and then leisurely headed home
The above route is quite smooth. Shaxian is very small, and you can easily navigate as everything is not far apart.
During the trip, I also spent about 3 hours wandering around the pedestrian street, shopping malls, and Qu Alley. I also visited Qifeng Diecui for 1 hour, which was more than enough time. It's a leisurely small town that I like💕

Shaxian snacks have a long history, originating in the Tang and Song dynasties, flourishing in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and being passed down to the present day. The craft of making Shaxian snacks is a combination of the culinary techniques of the ancient Central Plains Han immigrants and the Baiyue people, adapting to the local seasonal changes, folk festivals, and activities. It involves various production techniques such as simmering, soaking, pounding, grinding, shuffling, kneading, and sun-drying, combined with cooking methods like steaming, boiling, roasting, frying, and stewing, forming a snack-making technology that incorporates both northern production skills and southern dietary culture.
Wenchang Street is home to 13 intangible cultural heritage time-honored brands, nearly 20 inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, and more than 60 famous snacks passed down through generations. Consumers can experience the craft and taste of Shaxian's intangible cultural heritage snacks in one place.
Wenchang Street is also known as 'Shaxian Traditional Skills Snack Street', adjacent to the Wenchang Pavilion, which features light shows and 3D water screen shows, and faces the Qifeng Diecui scenic area across the river.

Shuimei Tubao~ A hidden utopia village around Shaxian
Every time I go to Shaxian, apart from eating and drinking, it seems that I just stay at home. This time I brought people to play and searched around, and found a rather distinctive Shuimei Tubao.
I understand it should be a building similar to the Hakka Tulou, but the shape is not quite the same, there are square and semi-circular planes.
There are three main forts in the village, surrounded by bamboo forests, and they look at each other across the sea of grass. They all belong to the Zhang family. They have been built larger and larger from the smallest, which also proves that their family is developing better and better~ It has not been over-developed and retains the unique traces left by time.
It's about a 20-minute drive from Shaxian city, very close! But it's quite hidden! There will be signs on the roadside. Because I was in a hurry to eat, I hurriedly looked at it for 1+ hour, maybe 2 hours would be more relaxed and leisurely.
