Shimoda often came up in history classes in junior high school. It opened its port to the public under the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan, and in fact has ties to Ryoma and Shoin. While walking along Perry Road in Shimoda, I discovered a very stylish cafe 👀✨ When I went in, it felt like grandma's house!! My grandma's house is nothing like this, but I felt like I was at my grandma's house. lol It was a hot day, so I ordered plum beer without hesitation 🍺 It is made with homemade plum juice and beer. The rich flavor and sweetness of the plum juice stood out, and it was almost plum juice. It's very delicious 😋 This building is an old house built in the Taisho era, and the second floor is an atelier. Retro buildings line the small river and are very photogenic. If you want to see the Namako Wall, we recommend the former Sawamura residence, which can be visited for free. The Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan was negotiated here at Ryosenji Temple in Shimoda. Purple American jasmine flowers were in full bloom. The eel rice bowl at Ogawaya, located just one step down the alley, was delicious and hearty (reservations recommended). The Shimoda Hydrangea Festival is held every June at Shimoda Park, the southernmost part of the Izu Peninsula. ✨ Approximately 150,000 hydrangeas and 3 million flowers bloom in full bloom. ♫ Until now, I had only seen hydrangeas at a nearby shrine, so it was my first time seeing so many blooming, and it was overwhelming. 😆 Not only were there many different colors, but the shapes of the flowers were also varied, and I was surprised at the wide variety...! Shimoda Park is larger than I imagined, and from the top of the hill there is a spectacular view of the contrast between the sea and the hydrangeas! Every year from December 20th to January 31st, the Tsumekizaki Daffodil Festival is held in Tsumekizaki, Shimoda, south of Izu. 3 million daffodils in full bloom is a spectacular sight!
