Boston 4-day 3-night itinerary
Boston and Cambridge have always been the most active areas of art and culture in the Eastern United States, with many world-class art galleries and museums. Whether you are a hipster or just traveling, you will definitely find your favorite attractions. The selected destinations are concentrated in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville, exploring art galleries, prestigious schools and contemporary creations.
Accommodation🏨
The Cambria Hotel, Somoville, Boston
This hotel personally has basically no drawbacks except that it is a bit far from the subway. Clean and tidy, and very large, there are already selling donuts downstairs, plus the lobby will serve coffee, completely value for money.
1. Contemporary Art Association (ICA Boston)
Address: 25 Shore Ave., Boston Harbor, Massachusetts
Reason for recommendation: Overlooking the sea view of Boston Harbor, the exhibitions inside are very diverse, including photography, sculpture, drawing and installation art. The balcony in the museum overlooks the entire harbor, which is a super beautiful photo spot. The main reason for more popular pilgrimage is its international-class contemporary exhibitions and surrounding Art Shop. ICA is quite a small pavilion, an hour and a half almost. Its photo spots are really pretty, but I think the very important thing is that the staff is very attentive and enthusiastic!
Interesting experience: Contemporary art is usually more “abstract”, often not just to understand the meaning of a painting, the medium and materials used are worth learning and appreciating. Because I saw a bit of sand (?) on a platform on the ground floor, and since I couldn’t see clearly, I kept staring. Then the staff walked up to me and said "Don't you know what they mean! Let me explain" and then shared with me😂 When I got lost, I just walked into an exhibition hall with no explanation written on it.
2. MIT Museum
A must-go for technology fans and science and engineering enthusiasts! The variety of invention exhibits showcases the innovative abilities of MIT teachers and students, perfect for those interested in mechanics and artificial intelligence. There will also be an interactive exhibition to experience the fun of innovation and technology.
3. Harvard Art Museums
The collection spans Eastern and Western art, from ancient civilizations to modern art. Harvard itself is already a famous pilgrimage spot. After visiting the museum, you can check in at the Harvard campus. You can completely see the background of a school.
4. MFA Boston
Tickets are more expensive.
One of the largest comprehensive art galleries in the United States, focusing on a large collection of European, Japanese, Chinese and American art. The venue is spacious with several themed exhibition halls. Another place so big that my feet hurt when I walk, be sure to ask them for a map, really get lost, very much collection, but walk loose, no one.
5.Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
Belongs to the photo spot (this shot is very casual).
It seems that because the collection itself does not like to write text to introduce, so there is no explanation. So but the decoration, artwork inside is quite worth a walk. And it's pretty close to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where you can go online ahead of time, with a joint ticket, maybe you can save money.
🎒 Tips/Notes:
- Boston needs a cartoon card to be convenient, remember to make it in the subway.
- Most of the major pavilions offer free storage backpacks or jackets for easy viewing;
- It is recommended to check the official website of each museum in advance to confirm special exhibitions and opening hours, Monday closure is more common;
- Some pavilions have discounted tickets for students/young people. Remember to bring your ID.
