The High Tatras (Slovak: Vysoké Tatry, Polish: Tatry Wysokie) is a mountain range located in northern Slovakia and southern Poland on the border between Slovakia and Poland. A popular summer resort in the summer and a great place for skiing in the winter, the Alpine Tatras are a great place to visit all year round, and the trails in the Alpine Tatras are marked with distances and estimated times, so it is easy to choose a route to suit everyone's fitness level and ambition. Gear: I wore trail runners, manageable, but locals had boots. Rain jacket mandatory — afternoon storms build fast. I turned back by 13:00 to avoid the 15:00 thunder. Mistake: a hiker in jeans slipped on the chain section and slid 3 m (caught by a rock). Another: people refill bottles from Jamské stream — technically allowed but giardia risk; I used tablets. Taking the mountain train to Štrbské Pleso is a popular route in the High Tatras, and the train is often filled with hikers. The High Tatras offer numerous hiking trails, and we chose to take a leisurely walk around Štrbské Pleso, a loop of about 2.5 km. The flat trail is easy and enjoyable to walk. Situated at an altitude of 1,346 meters, the lake is surrounded by the peaks of the Tatras, creating a stunning landscape. Unfortunately, the thick cloud cover made the walk comfortable but prevented the lake from displaying its most beautiful blue hue as expected.
