Yokkaichi Station has nothing much to offer, so killing time there can be challenging ⏳. Tsubaki Grand Shrine has a serene atmosphere and is full of spiritual energy. Perhaps because it was a Sunday, I had to wait about 10 minutes to reach the main hall 🤏. Although it's a bit far, it's definitely worth visiting!!! I wasn't aware of them and boarded at Sarutahiko Shrine bus stop, where I waited in the cold for over 20 minutes, and the bus was packed 🥲. Day 1: We took an afternoon flight and arrived at Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya at 8 PM Japan time. Since we had already filled out the entry forms on Visit Japan Web, the immigration process was very quick. Because we flew with a budget airline, we landed at Terminal 2 and had to walk to Terminal 1 to pick up our car, which took about 15 minutes. It was quite a walk! After picking up the car, we headed straight to the city, dropped off our luggage at the hotel, and immediately went to Isomaru Suisan for a seafood dinner. After a satisfying meal, we went back to the hotel to prepare for the next day's itinerary. Day 2: We had a Japanese-style breakfast at McDonald's, then drove to Houraiken to get a ticket for their famous eel rice. We then visited Atsuta Shrine to draw a fortune slip, spent an hour at Osu Shopping Street, and returned to Houraiken for lunch. Afterward, we took a stroll around Nagoya Castle, got new glasses at Aeon Mall, and had dinner at a local ramen shop before heading back to the hotel. Day 3: We started the day early with onigiri and sandwiches from Aeon, then drove 165 kilometers to Takayama for a local Hida beef meal. We spent over an hour exploring Takayama Old Town, then drove another 50 minutes to ride the rail bikes. After that, we drove almost 200 kilometers back to Nagoya for dinner at Sushiro, followed by a shopping spree at Don Quijote before returning to the hotel to rest. Day 4: We woke up naturally, had a local Nagoya breakfast, and drove 60 kilometers to Suzuka Circuit, where we played until around 5 PM. Due to heavy rain, we decided to leave early and drove to AEON Mall in Suzuka City for more shopping and a simple dinner at the food court. We then braved the heavy rain to drive back to Nagoya. Day 5: Still feeling full, we had a light breakfast, checked out, and moved our luggage to LEGOLAND. After dropping off our luggage, we spent the day at LEGOLAND, then returned to the hotel to rest. Later, we drove back to Nagoya for a high-quality yakiniku dinner before returning to the hotel. Day 6: We had a lavish breakfast at the LEGOLAND hotel, then headed to the Nagashima Outlet for some serious shopping. We filled our bags to the brim, refueled the car near the airport, made a final shopping stop at a nearby supermarket, and returned the car at the airport. Uokaname is a ryokan (Japanese-style inn) located in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture. This is a homely inn that makes you feel like you've come back to your grandma's house. This inn is more about the food than the accommodation. The dinner and breakfast were very luxurious and I was very satisfied even though I eat a lot. We were able to enjoy lots of fresh fish, shrimp, and crab. It is run by a married couple, and the very kind husband comforted me. There is a beach nearby, so it is a popular inn for anglers. It is also often used by families as a place to stay on the way back from the Suzuka Circuit. In the summer, it seems like it would be good to use it on the way back from swimming in the sea or an event. There is a parking lot, and it is close to the Kintetsu station, so it is also recommended for solo travelers. The price varies depending on the season, but I was able to stay for 4,000 yen with a plan that included meals. We spent 6 months travelling Japan, South Korea, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines and kept our budget under £50 per person per day throughout. Here’s the honest breakdown by country. Japan was the most expensive at around £37.50 per person per day including accommodation, food, transport and activities across two months. This is significantly below what most budgets suggest for Japan and was achieved through: free camping at Michi-no-Eki stations on the road trip, eating at local restaurants and convenience stores rather than tourist areas, using IC transport cards for flat-rate public transport, and buying a SIM rather than paying for roaming. South Korea came in cheaper than expected at around £20-25 per person per day. Korean motels kept accommodation costs low and food is genuinely excellent value when tha eats where locals eat. Southeast Asia: Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines averaged £18-22 per person per day across the four countries. The range was wide: Laos was the cheapest at around £15 per person per day. The Philippines varied enormously depending on whether we were in cities or island-hopping. Nagoya Happy Journey (Family Episode) The four hotels + rental cars booked on trip this time were very satisfied and excellent value for money.
