A Culinary Expedition at Chiang Mai Gate Market
Embracing a unique #shopandtrip adventure, I found myself navigating the vibrant aisles of the Chiang Mai Gate Market. Tucked in the heart of Chiang Mai, this bustling gastronomic haven bustled with stalls, each one a treasure trove of mouth-watering Thai delicacies.
The aromatic allure of Sai Oua, a traditional Northern Thai sausage, instantly captivated my senses. Beautifully grilled and showcased, this visual appetizer marked the beginning of a tantalising culinary journey, worthy of being a chapter in my travelogue.
The market further unravelled a cornucopia of Thai food. The assortment of tantalising curries, zesty larb, and other local delights painted a colourful culinary canvas, inviting exploration and appreciation for Thailand's rich gastronomy, perfectly encapsulated in an #awesomepic.
The journey didn't end there. A stall teeming with succulent mangoes and durians beckoned, the scent of the sweet fruits filling the air. Paired with sticky rice, this traditional dessert was a sensory delight, adding a sweet note to the symphony of Thai cuisine that echoed through the market.
My exploration culminated at the confectionery stalls. Displaying a diverse range of Thai sweets, each meticulously crafted, these stalls were a testament to the fusion of tradition and taste that defines Thai confectionery.
As the day concluded, I found myself returning home with a diverse collection of Thai food, each dish a tangible memento of this culinary journey. The Chiang Mai Gate Market experience wasn't just about exploration; it was about bringing a piece of vibrant Thai culture into my home, truly embodying the spirit of shopping and tripping.

SAVOURY THAI SALADS
Thai flavors are vibrant and fresh. These dishes burst with flavor, are low in fat, and are naturally low in calories, thanks to a lovely mix of herbs, spices, and the greenest of fruit. In zesty lemon dressings or creamy coconut sauces, fruits like grapefruit, mango, and papaya mingle with chicken, beef, crab, or shrimp. These were only some of the Thai salads that made my tastebuds happy.
One of the famous Thai salad is the Som Tam or the Green Papaya Salad. In most parts of Thailand, this salad is popular. Slightly sour from the green papaya, fiery from the chile pepper, salty from the shrimp paste and fish sauce, and sweet from the honey, all of these flavors combine to create a one-of-a-kind and lovely salad. This salad is nutrient-dense, high in fiber, and low in calories, and it can be turned vegan by omitting the fish sauce from the dressing.
Other famous Thai salads are Thai Mango Chicken Salad, Thai Crab Salad with Coconut-Lime Dressing, Thai Fruit Salad With Coconut-Lime Dressing, Low-Carb Crispy Pad Thai Noodle Salad, and Larb Gai (Thai Chicken Salad).

THAI GRILLED PORK SKEWERS ~ MOO PING
Price: 5 - 12 baht each
Have you ever been walking through Bangkok's streets and smell a savoury and aromatic grilled pork?
Oh yes, I am not alone for that smell of moo ping always lure me to grab a stick or three.
Known as moo ping in Thailand, these grilled pork skewers are a popular street dish. Thin slices of fatty pork butt are marinated, skewered, and grilled over charcoal. As the pork cooks, it's coated with unsweetened coconut cream to keep it moist and add a creamy richness to counteract the marinade's fish sauce punch.
Moo Ping merchants sell all day, but they are most active in the early and late afternoon. I'd have it for breakfast or as a snack in the afternoon. Not because they are my favorite dish, but because I can't stand the smell of them being prepared by the vendor!

DISH OF FLAVOURS
Phad Thai
Price:50 Baht and up
Pad thai blends flavours that are sweet, sour, salty and spicy.
It's a stir-fried rice noodle dish popular in Thailand as street food and in casual local cafés. It's cooked with soaking dry rice noodles, eggs, and chopped firm tofu, and flavored with tamarind pulp, fish sauce (nampla), dried shrimp, garlic or shallots, red chili pepper, and palm sugar, and served with lime wedges and often chopped roast peanuts. Bean sprouts, garlic chives, coriander leaves, pickled radishes or turnips (hua chaipo), and raw banana blooms are all possible additions. Fresh shrimp, crab, squid, chicken, or other proteins may be included. Soy sauce can be used instead of fish sauce in vegetarian variants.
Its flavours - sweet, salty, sour, and spicy - keeps local and foreigners coming back for more. Tamarind paste and lime add sourness, sugar sweetness, saltiness from fish sauce, and spiciness from hot chilies. The softness of the rice noodles contrasts with the textures of the shrimp, tofu, bean sprouts, and chopped roasted peanuts in this meal.

Best Thai Coconut Ice-cream!
#wheretogo
The weekly Night Market at Koh Samui’s Fisherman’s Village is a wonderland of Thai Street Food! The stalls start setting up at 5pm and winds down close to midnight.
We had the best coconut ice-cream served in the freshest young coconut for just 70 Baht! And a big plate of piping hot padthai cooked before our very eyes. But the highlight of the night for me was the chicken innards. Those were massive, tasty chunks of perfectly grilled chicken liver I will continue to crave for…

Muslim-Friendly Dessert to try in Thailand
I’m back with my Muslim-friendly dessert & snacks around the world 😂❤️
This time I’m bringing you to Thailand, the land of smiles ☺️
A popular street food here is Nutella Thai Banana Roti, which is similar to roti prata, but sweet style. There’s also other flavours to choose from.
I however find that the different states has rather different taste, and I think the ones in Krabi and Phuket tastes the best. Maybe it’s because I can eat it beside the beach? 🥹
What’s your favourite street food in Thailand?

BREAD WINNER 🍨 🥯
Thai Ice Cream Sundae (I-Tim Sundae)
Cost: ฿ 10
This is an ice-cream bread sandwich in the style I would eat as a child. In Thailand bread (Kanom Pan) is commonly eaten as a treat or a dessert.
Thai ice cream is created with coconut milk and sugar and is pronounced I-sa-cream by adults and I-dtim by Thai children. Syrups were on top of my three to four-scoop ice cream sandwich. Alternative toppings include chocolate sauce and condensed milk. Another ‘sweet' alternative is ice cream over a bed of sweet sticky rice. Excuse to my voice first...I would like to grab more of this treat again! 😉
