This is my half day trip to JB and thankfully I have someone to drive me in. Met up with her first before we went in together! 📍Ten Dental My retainer has holes in them from my constant grinding so unfortunately I had to make new ones and my dentist in SG charges a BOMB. Asked around and decided on this dentist. Also decided to get a mouthguard too since that will prevent me from wearing down my teeth. 🍽️Tian Xin Lou Dim sum for breakfast. The last time I had dim sum? Back in Hong Kong in 2023… lol Missing it a lot and the prices here were pretty okay around 8RM per plate plus there’s aircon. Didn’t want to eat too much because of the heavy lunch later. What we ordered: Lor Mai Gai Spare ribs Century Egg Siew Mai Salted Egg Har Gao 🥤KSL My friend went to do her nails while I walked around looking for something to drink. They actually have Ning Ji, where I got the Thai Green Lemon Tea. They were having 50% off for new user that sign up and order through the app. Huge fan of it had it when I was in Changsha and it was good! Then we went to Lotus, their supermarket where I got their Malaysian brand ranch sauce, Lotus Chips(only $1.99RM), two cans of Malaysian tuna and my favourite cabe hijau noodles. 🍴 Spazzo Pasta lunch, I really liked the carbonara. Think you can give the Caesar salad with smoked salmon a miss as the mayo bbq sauce tasted exactly like thousand island. Caesar salad is ranch sauce or nah. Found out much later that they had kombucha on the menu, would have gotten that instead. Wanted to get shio pan but we didn’t have time as my friend had to rush back to SG! As Singaporeans, what do we like doing? Heading in to Johor, Malaysia. The food, play, entertainments and relaxation options are endless. Let me take you through my day on the places I visited. 1. Nasi Gulai Isteri Today I have a shoot in Kulai so I decided to get a grab over(it was seriously expensive, I paid 70RM from checkpoint) and googled up a delicious food place. This was amazing! The chicken was crispy and juicy and the gravy was fantastic. Long lines because food is SEDAP 👍 Kulai is known for their Hakka cuisine but I was with my Muslim friends so I wasn’t able to eat other food. 2. Pristine Home Hotel Our accommodation for the night. It was relatively okay for its price point. 3. MidValley Southkey Headed to the Grocers to get this dehusked coconut. Super convenient because who likes to dig a spoon into the flesh after finishing the coconut water?! Got my favourite milk tea at Beautea too. I prefer this over Chagee when I’m in JB hahaha. 4. Lepak Corner Dinner here. They serve Malay style zhi char. All kinds of dishes available. They must have many chefs inside because how else are they memorising and cooking so many types of dishes. 🤔 We got steamed fish, Tom yum soup, grilled prawns then we walked off the calories at a nearby night market. 5. Lynns Food & Beverage (南洋厨房) Ordered GrabFood for breakfast, that’s the most convenient. Got the scallion pancake and roasted chicken congee. For 1pax it was too much but had to hit the minimum order so. 6. Komtar JBCC Found that they sell sourdough in a small portion at the bakery on 1st floor and I had McDonalds because they have sour cream sauce!!! Most delicious! Singapore doesn’t have these type of sauces so it’s pretty boring. This is my second solo trip to JB and I decided to make it happen because it’s frankly not a place I like going by myself because it can get kind of dangerous at times but I took a bus there so it’s fine. 📍KSL Mall Didn’t know they had a direct bus from the checkpoint, it was convenient but the wait time was pretty long. I only paid 1.50rm as compared to taking a Grab over which I usually do and spending way more. 🍽️Lunch: CUAN YUE Malatang I am a huge mala lover so I had to try it. They count by weight so I got mainly vegetables and two sausages. The broth is on the milky side. 🥤Beverage: CHUCHAT They have a signature Seat Salt Milk Tea but I drank too much milk from the broth earlier. Instead, I opted for the Bottled Brewed Tea. It was jasmine and super refreshing. 💇♀️ Hair: Studio M Got a new haircut for a new look and Keratin treatment so that I have smooth, manageable hair. 🍽️Dinner: Tampoi Laksa Cafe If you like Nyona-style laksa, then this is for you because it’s very “lemak” meaning rich and full of coconut milk and flavours. They have otah too. 🥤Chill: Family Mart Back to KSL and got two drinks while waiting. I love their house brand bottled tea which contains 0% sugar and comes in Green tea, Oolong and Barley flavours. 🛌 Stay: Maplehome Before checking in there was a small convenience stall below where you can get drinks and snacks. This unit was interesting as it was split into two so the room was really small but it was comfortable enough for 2pax. Went out for drinks and karaoke and that was end of Day 1. Day 2: 🍽️Lunch: Ah Ma TeoChew Kuih This was honestly good. The Kuih was soft and the red bean smoothie was good too. I loved the salted egg which tasted fresh. 🛍️ Shopping: Redchilli Vintage Store Never done thrifting before but this top suited me well so I had to get it. Was a y2k kind of style. 🙏 Temple: Real Thai Amulet Here to pray or at least I attempted. Not a religious person but cool to check out. 🍽️Dinner: Hai Kah Lang Super famous fish soup. I loved the fish cake was very delicious and I still think about it this day. 🍽️Pahpai Steakhouse Ended the entire JB trip with raw oysters and watermelon juice. They have plenty of western options and many diners do go there to eat. Let me take you through my day on the places I visited. 1. B&B Bakery Famous for their shio pans with both savoury and sweet options. My favourites were definitely the Spring Onion Cream Cheese and Mentiko ones which they will top it for you freshly on the spot. They serve beverages too. It was pretty affordable too, given the generous ingredients. It’s a bakery that sells cakes too so everyone can have something to suit their tastebuds but the star is still the salt buns. Huge fan of salt buns. 2. Borneo Oasis Thai massage to knead those knots away. They offer a wide range of massage including Malaysian, Oil, Deep Tissue and Shoulder and Leg, and more, ranging from 60-120 minutes. I opted for the full body one. It was very relaxing and I almost fell asleep during the session. You can even do an oil add-on at an additional charge. 3. Nasi Kandar Hijrah This place has more than 9000 reviews on Google, with a 4.7 star rating so we know the food is good. When in Malaysia, eat Malay food. You get a wide variety of dishes from chicken to seafood and large amounts of gravy. Think of our Singapore’s ‘economy rice’ but wayyy better because the ingredients are top-notch. Please go and try it out. 4. Mid Valley Southkey Complete shopping paradise here, they have everything, including a supermarket. They have the largest Miniso in Johor! If you are into collectibles and household items, don’t miss it. I was lucky because they happened to have a pop-up with my favourite Sanrio characters Hello Kitty and Kuromi. Jaya Grocer sells peeled coconut flesh with juice in a tub. Super convenient, I love it. 5. Komtar JBCC Last stop of the day for a quick dinner before heading back into Singapore. Their McDonalds is different because they have these special chicken tenders in spicy/original and SOUR CREAM & ONION sauce which is super addictive! Must-try! If you ever find yourself in the Sunway JB area, the food options might seem a little limited. I did some research online, and based on both reviews and local buzz, Takara Teppanyaki appeared to be the best choice. When I got there, a queue had already started to form, and I ended up waiting about 20 minutes after placing my order for the food to arrive. Honestly, given the hype and crowd, I expected it to be a bit tastier. But for an unplanned dinner, it was still a pretty decent meal. A short day trip to visit coffee cat house! I found it very worth your time and money as you only have to pay for food / drinks no fee for interacting with cats! Cats roam freely around the cafe and we were lucky enough to experience the cats coming up to us :) very chill and enjoyable time! I truly recommend to anyone that love cats! You can also purchase treats for the cats!! After hanging out at the cafe i also went to a Korean BBQ in the same stretch of buildings and it’s really good!#travel #catcafe #jb
