CyberJaya Lake Garden
Probably my last one in Malaysia, at least for now until we visit again.
It’s a lakeside park that offers not only a big children playground but also a beautiful lotus pond with a covered by big trees track for cycling and jogging. It’s nice and quiet with fields perfect for picnic too!
Our focus is on the children’s playground. There are slides at different heights, spring horses, monkey bars, seasaw, swings etc. Kids pretend it was a castle, running from towers and slides while being spotted. There’s a pavilion next to the playground, but not much benches around (only a pavilion with 2 benches). I suppose they assume people would bring a cloth and sat down for picnic 🧺 time.
Kids: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ (kids thought it’s 🥵 hot, we were there in the evening ard 4pm)
Mom: ❤️ ❤️ (I agreed with kids, it’s hot, and it’s not shaded, no refreshments and not enough resting area for parents/ guardians)
Address: Persiaran Semarak Api, Cyber 4, 63000, Cyberjaya, Selangor
Enclosed: Not at all, and across the track is the lotus pond, watch out if you have curious kids, they might slips and fall if too close to it.
Refreshment: I didn’t see any permanent shops or stalls but there’s some pop up and motorcycle selling ice creams.
Car park: Free of charge
Toilet: Public toilet next to carpark but beware of monkey! Saw a couple of them went in 😂

Double Play at United Point!
Found this place for kids to have a full day playtime. It’s a mall with residence on it but it has everything a parent need, free carpark, Starbucks, playhouse, playground, restaurant, pharmacy and Aeon !
Playhouse is Pink Fong’s baby shark theme. You wouldn’t want to miss it if you have kids age 1 and above. It’s indoor but with a glass rooftop so the natural lighting is nice; it’s safely cushioned for fall and bump; different sections and varieties of play equipment for kids to be occupied for hours. Standard entry with no play time limit.
Baby Shark Adventure Ville x Toy World Amusement
Weekday RM48 per kid, guardian at RM10
Weekend and PH at RM58 per kid, guardian at RM10

Playground is at the podium, with 5 sections and a water splashing area. Love that there are plenty of climbing equipment. Our favourite beside the water area? Definitely the big rope climber right in the middle of the the podium. It’s not enclosed with lots of entry/exit points so parents do need to keep an eye on kids. Plenty of benches or sitting area. The playground area is surrounded by restaurant, convenient store and cafés, good news for parents!

Kidzania Kuala Lumpur
Kids favourite place to be! We were back in Malaysia for 5 weeks, and been there 4 times. That’s almost once a week ! One of the reason being? It’s close to grandparents house and it’s cheap (HKD410 for 1 adult 2 kids from 10am to 6pm).
It’s a children’s theme park offering immersive career role plays. Kids got to grab some ideas on what’s each job about, what’s really going on in the labour world. They’ve tried basically every job available in Kidzania KL 🫣
Firefighters / police officer/ surgeon/ nursery / paramedics/ housekeeping/ dentist/ florist/ pet groomers/ filter water technician/ fast food chains’ staff/ electricians / painter/ window cleaner/ petrol station worker/ parcels delivery/ actress/ fashion models/ junior animation created/ weather reporter/ news reporter/ chocolate manufacturer/ vitamin laboratory staff/ germs and virus scientists/ pilot/ radio DJ/ on field reporter etc
Honestly, it’s so much fun 🤩 I couldn’t help wishing we have something similar back then. Kids got inspired. Understanding each job, no matter how simple and easy it seems to be, need lots of efforts. And they gained experience of the part where you got to work to get paid.
Some tips:
1. First thing, go to the Bank. Have kids open a bank account, a bank card will be issued. We deposit all our “money” before starting any job. Kids keep going back to deposit, so we won’t have to hold all the paper monies. This is FREE! But if you’re leaving, withdraw all the monies, kidzania paper money can be used worldwide on other kidzania.
2. Kidzania passport. There are 3 type of passports. Passports are RM3x per kid, and expired when kids are age 17. Passports are to get discounts when spending at kidzania, be it at the souvenir stores or some kids job that requires training payment. Besides, you’ll get extra $2/$4/$6 of salary with a passport. The upgrades of passports are based on stamps collected each time you visit the job (max 1 stamp for the same job per day).
I bought tickets via Klook, make sure you registered yourself online before heading over. You don’t need to print out anything for entrance.

Petrosains
Petrosains means Petronas (Malaysia’s fully integrated oil and gas company) and Sains (Malay word for Science). It’s a science and technology museum located in the heart of the city within KLCC. As a Malaysian, I’m proud to reveal that I haven’t once visit this place before this 😂 but I’m glad I’ve done it with my kids.
I am impressed with the contents. Different sections with much interacting tools on display. We started with makers studio where lots of creativity, creating and building take place here; then the oil platform explaining and illustrates the whole oil and gas exploration before moving to speed with different exhibits on testing each velocity, including your throwing speeds; tech lab shows some robots and controls; space lab has information on astronauts life, the living and work space, machines for space and the anti g-force try out. The Geotime Diorama is impressive, realistic and kids discovered earth science with fossils and realistic looking dinosaurs.
There’s no reservations allowed, first come first served. If purchasing through online travel agent such as klook, be sure to book your slot 1 day in advance.

Kids Nation
After a couple of weeks back in Malaysia, I realised it’s really hard to plan for outdoor playground. We can’t do our normal afternoon time because everything is burning hot, and evening randomly accompanied by the thundershowers. No wonder, the indoor playgrounds are popular and frequent by the locals.
Kids Nation is recommended by a friend. Located in 163 Retail Park at Mont Kiara. It’s huge and suitable for toddlers up to primary kids.
It is a 2-3 storeys playhouse holding aviation themed with unique facilities such as slides with donut rings, spiral slides, trampolines, webbing bridges, and obstacles course throughout the play equipment. There’s benches for resting and a library near the entrance.

Farm in the City
One of the place highly recommended by our local friends. It’s better than Zoo Negara , they said. At least it’s clean and animals are taken care of, they said. Apparently, the national zoo of Malaysia hasn’t been coping well with covid, and though I felt a tiny bit of guilt for not supporting, it does give me other reasons not, such as it’s inconvenient location, pictures of skinny and seemingly depressing animals sent by others.
So, we went to the Farm in the City. It’s a mini zoo at Sri Kembangan, Selangor. There are few hundreds of species. A couple of free flight bird aviary with enclosure; Reptiles cavern to see the python up close; quite a big lake with swans , pelicans, shelduck , koi swimming freely; and the impossible “Longkang” (ditch) fishing with a bucket and net. Visitors are allowed to pet and feed many animals. We pet the geckos, porcupine, rabbit; fed the giant tortoises, raccoons, swan, fish, birds.
Among the animals encountered, our favourite is feeding the raccoons. They came up to the log, and took the pallets from kid’s hands with their tiny paws. Surprisingly gentle and adorable.

Legoland
One of our must do back in Malaysia is road trip to Legoland and a quick visit to Singapore to finally catch up with kids’ one and only Kai Ma (godmother) and my only Kai Zai (godson).
Drove from PJ to our Airbnb in Johor is about 4 hours. I book a 2 bedrooms near Legoland, within walking distance. And we hired a driver with special permit crossing border to the neighbouring country for a day (He’s my dad age but helpful, gentle, speaks both mandarin and English, driving safely and steadily).
I was impressed by the upkeeps of Legoland. The whole covid situation, it must’ve affected the theme park, especially it was heavily relied on tourist. To my surprise, it’s all good, everything is reasonably clean and well maintained. We bought our tickets via klook (highly recommended, way cheaper than the official website) and entered with QR codes without fuss.
Bought the Sea Life + Theme Park package, and keeping water park for next trip when kids’ dad is with us. My kids enjoyed the mini aquarium in Lego theme without much crowd before running towards the theme park.
It was cloudy and drizzling. We have to walk around with umbrellas, begin with admiring mini cities built from blocks of legos; spend some time at the playground with some role play and train tracks, a few round of riding like a knights before kids went to driving schools and got their driver license, then tried boat driving and calling it a day. There are many attractions with age limits/ height limits and some inconvenient schedules such as the 4D movies with few screening time and Ninjago section closed for maintenance.
We will definitely come back for more. Maybe a couple of years later, when kids are both at least 7 and above and perhaps planning 2 full day, entirely for Legoland.

A trip to Penang
Penang is one of the weekend getaway people of Malaysia would do. It’s a four to five hours drive from our place. Hence, a road trip !
Left after breakfast, we stop by Ipoh for lunch. The usual Ipoh delicacy such as Ipoh bean sprouts chicken with rice noodle soup (怡保芽菜雞河粉), Ipoh White Coffee (怡保白咖啡), Salt Brined Chicken (鹽焗雞), Chee Cheung Fun (豬腸粉). Then, another 2 hours to Penang Island.
Book ourselves to Double Tree Resort by Hilton located at Batu Ferringhi. Kids absolutely love the pool and water splash area but not a fan of the nearby Miami Beach where we have to walk across the road via footbridge.
We spent sometimes at the Dino Gym playhouse at The Top. Apparently they are a Themepark with aquarium, Jurassic research centre, skywalk and observatory deck, playhouse and arcades. I wouldn’t say it’s well maintained but it’s reasonable and a place to hang out for a couple of hours, especially if you’re with kids when weather is too hot for outdoors.
The only playground we went is the newly built Sia Boey Urban Archeological Park. They have simple playground equipment such as ropes for climbing, stairs up to 2 storeys high for slides and rubber floors. Accidentally found the local street food near the park at Chulia Street Night Hawker Stalls where we kept going back for more. Kids and myself love the Apom so much ordered 30 pcs and gobble up in minutes. The char kuey teow and radish cakes are tasty too. Our belly are almost full when arriving at Gurney Drive Food Market but wouldn’t miss it anyway.

Death Culture for the Chinese
I’m not sure if this tradition is still holding in China, and we haven’t been practicing in Hong Kong for many reasons; BUT as Chinese ethnic in Malaysia, we keep the tradition going, one of it is the death culture during Ching Ming.
Ching Ming Festival has a history for over 2500 years. Various activities to be done on Ching Ming, including tombs upkeep and sweeping, putting willow branches, burning incense, burning or offering joss paper (representing money) etc.
It’s a coincidence to be back in Malaysia for Ching Ming. And I didn’t want to miss the chance of showing kids how the tradition is done during this festival. Normally we would just visit the tombs with flowers 💐 every time we came home. Not this time.
Took kids to the retailer specialised in selling ornaments for prayers. Kids picked paper clothes, amenities, skin care, shoes, food along with some money while we add on joss-sticks and candles. All items were sealed in a big paper/ card box. Then, we took it to the memorial centre. Offerings and joss-sticks are not allowed in the columbarium for safety reasons. Hence all the burning is done at the public area.
Ching Ming is a day for all to remember our ancestors. Very much like how it’s done in the movie Coco. At least that’s how I explain to my kids when they asked.
We are not really religious. I mean, I am atheist and kids believes in unicorns and dragons. It doesn’t matter to us, it doesn’t matter what everyone believes, we respect each other believes.. BUT I do find some of the customs, the traditions should be passed on, or at least experienced by the younger generations.
